Big W have discounted the 2009 ipod touch online, if you can live with the superceded model. The 32gb and 64gb models are good value but availability varies "currently unavailable" online. YMMV. 8GB $184 | 32GB $287 | 64GB $398

MOD EDIT Some stock still around see post comments (thanks Earlybird) for info on how to find

  • lol bought one last week at 224. damn what a waste

from big w i might add

    • I just bought the new one. For $105 more. Now also have buyers remorse. :-(

      • +1

if you bought the 8gb version, then be glad that you paid 105 more. The new ones (inc 8gb) are significantly better than the 2 generation old 8gb version thats on offer here.

However, there is less of a difference between the previous gen 32 and 64 gb version and the new ones, but I reckon the price is still worth it. Specifically faster CPU, higher res screen, and a couple of crappy camera.s

        • are you sure the 3rd gen 8gig is different from 2nd gen 8 gig?

          • +2

@StalkingIbis: The new 8gigger is the same as the new 32 and 64so it would be in the same generation (4th). There wasnt a new 8gigger out last year so there is no 3rd gen 8gigger. To answer your question how I think you mean, the new 8gigger does have all the things that were announced yesterday.

          • @StalkingIbis: if i were you i'd return it in light of the discount to the current range, or the awesomeness of the upcoming range lol

        • vidiot

          1. you can cancel it up to 10days post preordering on apple. if you really have remorse just cancel the bugger

          2. i also got the 8gb 4th gen, its a Freaking Bargain!

The level of engineering and tech advancement in 4th gen compared to 3rd gen will not go un-noticed even in lay people. screen, 2 cameras!, thinness, battery life improvement, gyroscope, speed of the new processor

i can't understand whatsoever why you're regretting the new ipod touch.

          • @kimmik: I'm not, really….. except that I am a complete skinflint, at times. Started out wanting the cheapest entry to iOS so I can theme my site and check how it looks. But I agree, the hundred bucks is worth it for me.

            • @vidiot: Don't stress dude; IIRC I paid ~$500 for my 16gb 1st gen back in the post NY sales of early '08! That was a sizable discount then too, good old Kmart were ~$70 cheaper than anyone else for that sale! However, in light of prices now for vastly superior technology in these newer models, I kinda find myself wishing it wasn't so damn reliable, so I could have a new one!!! :o

Like you, I'm pretty stingy…that would be the only way I could justify an upgrade! I'm with kimmik, I wouldn't regret getting the new tech for one nanosecond! ;)

  • Is there a difference with 2009 model? What Generation Ipod touch is it? Anybody able to help? thanks

    • G3 I believe

      • 1st gen came with iphone 2G

        2nd gen was iphone 3G

        3rd gen 3GS

        4th gen (upcoming) ip4

  • I may as well state the bleeding obvious that always seems to get posted on this site…

Go to Office Works and get them to price match and beat it by 5% so you'll get it for $174.

    • does officeworks take the coles group discount card?

      • yes

      • Yes but they don't normally give discount on a price beat unless they are beating another coles group store.

    • What about delivery charge as it is an online price only… they'll factor that in at OW too before price match

  • +2

There should be more of these with the announcement of the new ipod touch yesterday by Apple!

    • Or wait for the new one, since it is much much better. Has a 4x better screen, faster processor, more battery.

      • and costs $105 more

        • try $15 more (only $199 here): http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30714

          • @ccrap: Too bad that it's sold out and was by the time you posted here.

            • @elguapo: It wasnt when I started typing, I had refreshed the page. Only took a few mins to post as got a call from a client. anyway someone else on there mentioned they might have more stock later in the day but I doubt it.

Big W wont honour in store what is shown online, very poor!

    • what does that have to do with this deal?

      • I thought they might, the way the website sends you to a stock level page that allows you to find them in store. *****.

        MOD: language

      • -1

When they show a price and say find store stock you would think the price applies at the store, at $100 more that misleading and deceptive conduct, if you click on the OPs link it does not mention online only!

    • -1

it does say online only on their site

      • -1

They have only added the online only this afternoon, when they offer to find store stock they should indicate that the pricing is $100 more.

        • I was on their site the morning this was posted and it did say "Online only special" when your in the item description page. So i believe it has been there the whole time.

  • Anyone after the 64gb version skip the 2nd gen one at big w and head over to apple and get 3rd gen 64gb refurb with 12 month warranty for $389: http://store.apple.com/au/product/FC011ZP/A?mco=MTg5MTc5ODM

    • Why do you say the 64gb ipod touch is 2gen? There is no such animal. Why buy refurbished when you can get it new from big dubya?

  • I just read Garrat and others comments re these being second gen models and assumed same for 64gb but they must've just meant the 8gb one?

Apple is refurb but $10 less with free delivery and an option given that as of this moment bigw shows "Currently unavailable online" for 64gb, though this may change as OP indicates availability varies.

I have purchased a refurb nano before and it arrive looking and smelling brand spanking new. Only thing was it was in an brown OEM box instead of retail packaging.

    • Big W made the 8gb touch unavailable and the 64gb touch available during the day. Playing silly buggers?

Re the 2nd gen thing - as you probably know the hardware on the 8gb touch remained 2nd gen when the 2009 (just superceded) models came out. It apparently struggles with new games and software. Well worth people understanding that. I think all the big w models are 2009 models, and the 32 and 64 gb are good value if you don't care about the new (as in just released) features.

  • Got one today from office works =)

From what i was told Big W will be selling them at the online advertised price in store from tuesday.

  • +1

Just in case anyone still cares about this thread, I went into BigW in Underwood and got one at the online price. The advertised price in store was $258. The guy had to get the ok from the store manager but it didn't take long to convince him. I suppose you probably can go to Officeworks and get it for a few bucks cheaper. The last time I went to Officeworks to get something price matched, I got treated like they were doing a huge favour for me, so to save a few bucks, it's not worth the effort for me.

  • For those who are interested, apparently, there are still stocks in some stores.
