Price matched at JB Hi-Fi and salesperson gave me the mf910 with the lcd screen for $10.

    • +2

      Receipt? Which Jb?

      • -6

JB Fyshwick, I don't have the receipt anymore.

  • Zero left at Jerrabomberra NSW and Majura Park ACT stores

    • Zero at Queanbeyan NSW

  • whats everyone putting into this modem? plan wise? or mainly using as backup?

    • I'm going to go with $50 vodafone Data Prepaid

      • ummm looks good. was it easy to unlock with one of those 2 dollar solutions?

        • I have not tried yet, just waiting until my free telstra data runs out first.

  • None at Woolworths Southport, Gold Coast.

  • got one at woolies glennorie

  • Picked up the last two they had in the cabinet from the Yass store. Thanks OP.

  • anyone know if I can use this in Japan? buy a sim over there and share the data with the mrs ??

    • the simcard wont allow you to tether. that was based on my personal experience circa 2015. it may have changed, dunno.

      • is there an option to buy a data sim?

        • +1

yeah, for like 30 or 40 bucks per sim for 2 weeks. there are also plenty of free wifi hotspots for tourists.

  • These also can connect to a wifi hotspot (instead of 3g4g) and provide extended coverage.

SAME AS THE OPTUS E5573 HUAWEI DEVICES.

One downside is no removable battery and seems to be a little bit heftier thant the 5573.

Unlocked in 30 minutes on ebay for AUD 2.17.

    • Does anyone know if this account can utilise the Telstra phone box hotspot areas? Bought one anyway for backup data.

Can only assume it was the Carlton woolies as I sent the missus on the errand. Cannot confirm any extra stock though.

  • +1

HN wouldnt price match they always make bs excuses. luckily big w ($59)guy did it after calling woolies to confirm price of $10

    • +1

The Big W I went to refused to price match Woolies based on receipt and insists it has to be shown on the printed catalogue or website.

      • +1

thats right they said they dont price match Woolies based on receipt. i asked if he could call a store that had it in stock saving me the long drive.

  • Can anyone confirm please if there is a $30 credit you can use for creditme2u? Or is it only data? Thanks

    • +5

If you activate it for mobile broadband I'm pretty sure you don't get recharge credit that you could use for CM2U. However you should have the choice to activate it as a phone service (which will work fine in this WiFi modem - I've done it plenty of times) and get $30 recharge credit for CM2U if you choose Long Life or Simplicity. Last I heard, if you also want a decent amount of data then you can activate it as Pre-paid Plus, then temporarily change the offer to Long Life or Simplicity so you can access and send out $29 of the recharge credit on the SIM pack, then change it back to Pre-paid Plus to re-gain access to the data with that offer.

      • +1

let me know if anyone has tried the above and it worked? might give it a try and activate it on the prepaid plus and change back to long life and back after june.

    • +1

Just got one and tried to activate. Since it forces you to pick mobile broad under device type, you're limited to 3GB data plan only. Tried using both serial and service number.

      • Thank you for clarifying

  • None left in Blakes Crossing (already gone) and Playford (I scored the last 3), SA. Thanks OP.

  • Anyone able to post their receipts from other stores (eg BigW, Officeworks, JB?)

  • Has anyone tried this site to get free unlock codes? I'm going to, but don't have a voda sim yet…?

    https://tools.texby.com/unlock-codes/zte/

    Seems legit? Thoughts?

    • Seems legit but the code provided did not match the one I was provided from one of the ebay code unlockers ($2.20 or something).

That's not to say that there is only ONE valid unlock code.

I cannot however now test using the above site as my device is now unlocked.

      Possible reasons for diff code:-

      1. can be more than one "correct" unlock code
      2. that site does not have a valid algorithm for the 4GX modem
      3. the site is flawed
        4…bikies.
      • Which seller did you purchase from?
        have a link?

    • You need the later 16 digit codes.

  • Hello all. I was lucky enough to get one from a small woolies in Gosford. I've got a question though that the counter staff wasn't able to answer. For the folks who managed to buy the unit, does it have any thing on it that actually says it comes with 3gb of data included? I remember when I bought as USB modem about 4 or years ago, that the box actually had a sticker that said it had data included. This one doesn't have anyting like that.

    Appreciate the help.

    • Yes it does just above the service number on the tag 3GB30D

      • Ahhh!! Thanks a bunch! Can't believe I missed that!

  • So if anyone could kinda enlighten me.. as was asked earlier, what is the advantage over something like this over just turning on hotspot on your phone?

Advantages of this I can think of:

    • Doesn't drain mobile phone battery as it is a separate device
    • Can be placed near a window (for better reception) without "sacrificing" the ability to use the phone simultaneously

    Disadvantages:

    • Extra device to carry around & charge
    • Has more limited bands than mobile phones
    • No screen (this model)

Am I missing anything? Is that all?

    • Advantage
You can have an exam data sim card to use specifically for data
I have used phones just as hotspots and feel as though it decreases their lifetime.

      • But you could get a cheap phone purely to use a data-only SIM too (although admittedly more expensive than $10, most of the time)
Or you could have a dual SIM phone where one SIM is data-only too?

        • +2

The main advantage for me apart from all the above is that these modems seem to pick up a stronger/faster signal than using phone as hotspot.

For people where signal strength is crusial, you can also plug in an antenna/booster to these for even better reception ( sky is the limit here ).

Also leave plugged into charger most of the time without too many hassles ( upgrade every year with new tech when on sale for price of data ).

Any good Telstra recharge deals for 365 days expiry data?

  • +3

Thanks OP! Had to go to 3 stores to find 2. None in Ashgrove, Paddington or Kelvin Grove. Did stumble across another interesting find though- Telstra Alcatel 9002A 7" tablet with 3GB of data for $20. Only place that had any left was Paddington. I would assume nationwide.

    • Telstra Alcatel 9002A 7" tablet is this from woolworths as well?

      Thanks

      • Yup. Saw them when asking about the 4GX. They have a number of Telstra products that have been heavily discounted. Ended up buying a few just because they were $20! Pretty basic tablet, but seems to be good for light tasks.

        • Cheers, cause I asked one of the store up in North QLD and she just say they don't normally stock tablet. Weird..

        • +1

I know this link doesn't show anything but this listing

          https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/Browse/entertainment-home…

but I didn't know how to upload pictures of my receipt. Perhaps they consider it an oversized phone since it has 3g capabilities? Or maybe it's something only certain stores carry?

Based on what I saw in the stores I went in, I think Woolworths are discontinuing all Telstra products. In one there was a literally a sea of yellow tags of half price or better, which to be fair did include some for Optus. If you look at the new displays, they seem to only highlight Optus and Vodafone. I strongly suspect there's a good chance if you ask them to scan in any Telstra product it will be discounted. Didn't test it out though.

        • @thefinalproblems:
They thanks - scored one too because of you :).

Did you have a go at unlocking it from Telstra? Should work well with those cheap Kogan (Voda) SIMs

        • @King Tightarse: No luck so far. Tried a few free sites/programs since there are quite a few out there for Alcatel, but most are for older phones. Also had trouble matching service provider id. Not sure about the ones on eBay since the models there are 900x?

Would be keen to find out how to unlock it though.

It's worth noting that unlike the MF910V which gives you 5 attempts to unlock, this gives you 99!

        • @thefinalproblems:
Right - I emailed an ebay unlocker that said he did the 9000 models and he wont do this one

        • @King Tightarse: Lol I did that too earlier and got the same answer. Wonder if we messaged the same person since all I got was "NO" from the seller. Couldn't tell if he/she was angry, annoyed or just trying to save time.

        • @thefinalproblems: same answer
just a seller with no manners

        • @King Tightarse: Glad it wasn't personal then! :)

@King Tightarse:Update: Just got mine unlocked for free directly by Telstra. Tried to make a call on a Vodafone sim and worked like a charm! :)

          So here's what happened:

Gave their support number(125 8880) a call. Their website states that they can unlock devices for varying fees or for free if the device has been activated long enough. First person I spoke to was useless and kept insisting the IMEI wasn't in their database and that it couldn't be a Telstra product or that I was giving her the wrong information. She also kept insisting I go back to Woolworths to have them sort it out. I kept asking to speak to someone else, but got nowhere and hung up.

Called back and spoke to someone else who started the conversation the same way. However, when I explained it had to be theirs since it was a Telstra branded product, she offered another solution. She said since it wasn't in their database that she would have to contact Alcatel directly for the key and that she would get back to me. I wasn't holding my breath on anything happening, but since I had contacted a few other sellers on eBay and they all said they couldn't unlock it, I really had nothing to lose. More than a week later I get the magic e-mail with the unlocking code! Worked first time, no drama!

Hope that saves you a few headaches and helps you with unlocking yours!

        • @thefinalproblems:
Hey great info, thanks for sharing.

        • @King Tightarse: Last one I promise! ;) Found an easier/faster way to get it unlocked. Go to Alcatel's website and ask them directly. Messaged them the necessary info and asked them for the code. Got another one done within a few hours! :)

        • @thefinalproblems:
Wow thats awesome - thank you!

        • @thefinalproblems:
Hey took your advice and they got back to me but they want the CU code?
Not sure which one that is. Did they ask you for this too?

        • @King Tightarse: Yup, it's just 9002A-2ATSAU3. I think the latter part is the equivalent to Telstra's provider id code.

        • @thefinalproblems:
          Ah cheers.

Thanks OP! Rang few stores around Melbourne on the weekend and none had stock. Saw a Woolies while I was in Brunswick today so thought I just try my luck and surprisingly they had 1 left :)

  • +3

Some pf these have made their way yo eBay etc. How can the sellers claim these are unlocked at the same time as claiming they are brand new in sealed box?

    • You can unlock them via IMEI which is printed on the outside of the box. Couldn't check, but theoretically can be done.

      • Still have to break the box, insert non Telstra sim and plug in the code.

  • Any stores in brissie still have it???

  • WA
    None at Belmont or Booragoon.

  • Just got 2 in Aitkenvale, Townsville. Scan at $10/each Nice!

  • Does anyone know where do they put these normally? On the shelf or behind their counter?

    • +1

      The service desk.
I just picked up one from Vic Park WA
I called them Friday Night and they didn't have them = lazy staff member couldn't be assed checking
All the Telstra mobile broadband devices are on special, I picked up the USB modem for $5.00

      • Nice, you got the last one? I ended up got an older one for $5.

        • Still worth it just for the included data lol.

  • +1

None left at Blacktown Westpoint, but managed to grab the last one available in Prospect, thanks OP!

  • good one

Got the last one at Rockdale Woolies and pricematched BigW Rockdale out of their last one too (took two managers to approve).

FYI the following stores are also out of stock: Eastlakes, Eastgardens, Alexandria, Mascot, Pagewood, Matraville, Kingsgrove.

Good luck for anyone else on the hunt :)

Out of stock: Woolies Tweed Heads Centro and Woolies Tweed City Shopping Centre. Looks like I missed out this time :-(

Just got one on my first try at woolies canning vale (WA), thought I would have no luck! Cheers op!

    • are there any left?

      • Dont think so, she said it was the last one. Livingston woolies might be worth a try if your local to the area.

        • isn't the Canning Vale woolies == Livingston ?

        • @tdw: Nah I was referring to woolies at The Vale, cnr of amherst and Warton.. Sorry it must be southern river then. My bad…

Could I hook this modem up to my old laptop through USB and use the internet?

    • +1

      i think you can.

  • cant seem to find any in QLD ….

  • has any one had to wait 4hours+ for sim card to activate? It does say up to 4 hours but I am surprised it has taken this long, my account also appears to be down on the Telstra site which may be related.

  • I got one a couple days ago… It burnt out already… Wont turn on anymore even when plugged in…

    Had to return :-/

    Anyone else experienced this?

    • -1

Ok so anyway if anyone does, Officeworks wouldn't price match a replacement as Woolworths were outta stock…

However Kmart did with OP's recipt proof. (Beware, it is missing date of purchase)

I am now more of a Kmart customer, and will avoid Officeworks whenever possible…

      But that was my experience…
      I hope this one isn't a dud…

      Peace.

  • It's no longer available at my area :( Damn!
