  • So someone pushing a trolley cart and handing out microwaved food is now called full service? Wow.

microwave food AND booze! full service as opposed to low cost so no need to get all narky. IMO LATAM is not much behind QANTAS in terms of quality of service. However their planes are all Dreamliners on the routes from Australia as opposed to QANTASs old 747s.

The 747 galley does not have microwaves for heating food, it uses fan forced ovens. Probably the same with the dreamliner but haven't worked in the galley of the dreamliner, cant say for sure. The food was quite nice.

I flew outbound to Santiago with QANTAS and return by LATAM to Sydney in February this year. I found them equal which is not surprising considering they code share. QANTAS is a bit more willing to let you have booze. There was a man that drank 12 beers on the QANTAS flight outbound and the flight purser kept supplying him no questions asked. I found the LATAM dreamliner more comfortable than the QANTAS 747. I flew a few LATAM flights in S America. They are not good at baggage handling, LATAM lost all my bags on the trip home (found 2 days later). They also don't like to serve you beer. Whenever I asked for one, the standard reply was, its not cold.I said I'd drink it warm, and found it was cold every time. They both literally ply you with food during the trip and the food was quite good. They even put out a buffet with sandwiches and cakes at the back of the plane, that you can help yourself to. You can watch in flight movies on your tablet over wifi, but make sure you install the LATAM app for LATAN and the QANTAS one for QANTAS before you board the flight. They also have charging ports available for your tablet, some planes need the AC adapter, other do straight USB. As I said before, they codeshare, so you are quite likely to end up in a QANTAS plane even if you book LATAM and vice versa. LATAM staff dont speak much English, if you are going to S America learn some basic Spanish to get by (Or download offline Spanish files on Google Translate - works amazingly well).

    • Great summary but I wouldn't say it's "quite likely to end up on Qantas if you book LATAM". If you book through LATAM for a day they fly you'll most likely be booking a LATAM flight, and if you're not it will specifically tell you.

  • Can't work out how to find the Rio de Janeiro low price deals, they seem to be a lot more when I put a trip in that date range?

  • One of the best choices — should read one of the only choices. Minimal competition. Nice fare though.
