  • Is this a USB2.0 or USB3.0 device?

    • -2

you would've found your answer in the first para when you clicked review. ;)

      • +3

Thank you kind sir. The review is for a 3.0 device, but the advertisement does not specify which is being sold, bearing in mind that both a usb 3.0 and 2.0 device exist with the same capacity.

  • I bought mine for $145 from PC DIY Auburn

    • +1

was the PC DIY the My Story USB3 or My Story USB2 or G3 Station (USB2)…

Rep you need more details for your deal.

      • Yep, precisely! FWIW, the cheapest I can find any of the "Story Station" 2tb models on Staticice is $160 (USB 2.0) & $199 (USB 3.0) without shipping, so I'm not really seeing a valid reason for a neg here! ;)

  • Beware I think this is the USB2 and not the USB3 model.

  • -2

$145 from PCDIY was the USB2

  • -1

@ Ben - Your negative vote is not fair simply coz you can walk into our store and buy this for $143 so how is $145 better then $143?

    • I negative because you have barely shown any details in your sale you show reviews for a USB3 model. This is highly deceptive

You should put more effort into clarifying your deal in the first place to avoid Negative votes.

I also voted negatively because I don't feel $2 cheaper is a bargain especially when your total price is $157.99

Also to be honest suck it up and stop whinging that I negative voted you this is a bargain website everyone has their opinion and you must deal with this. Don't post if you don't want feedback lol

      • -3

        No comment.. your opinion :)

        • +2

No, not just Ben's opinion…fact! You misrepresented your product, end of story! It doesn't matter whether it's oversight or deception, the only details you provided were for a different product, so you would have no legal or moral recourse tanuj, you did the wrong thing!

Frankly, I wasn't gonna neg coz the price for the actual product was respectable for it's peers; but I should have, given the overtly deceptive nature of the deal as I saw it posted, -ve!

      • +1

I negative because you have barely shown any details in your sale you show reviews for a USB3 model. This is highly deceptive

That, is a valid reason for a negative vote! If you'd said that in the first place nobody would be questioning you! The fact is you didn't, your initial rationale was just that you got it for $145 as a walk-in sale!

Don't lie just because you got lucky & retrospectively found evidence that serendipitously supports your stance, that's just weak dude!

      • BenMHarvey

I agree with Stewballs that you seem to have a revisionist view to your negative vote. If I had got here before that revision, your vote would have been deleted as it didnt match the guidelines.

That said by revising your opinion your vote would stand. But as the OP has revised the deal to cover the issue you raise then your vote is revoked as it meets the criteria under our voting guidelines, namely that a vote can be revoked if the reason for that vote is addressed.

Finally as you are in a lecturing mode, let us make one for you.
        Regarding this comment.

"Also to be honest suck it up and stop whinging that I negative voted you this is a bargain website everyone has their opinion and you must deal with this. Don’t post if you don’t want feedback lol"

That's your opinion. AND you are entitled to that opinion and I will as mod defend that right. BUT while its an opinion its not valid for a negative vote. WE use negative votes differently here. Read the guidelines please….

  • To clarify yes it is a USB 2.0 device. I will remove the review link

  • +3

I'm not going to neg the deal because it's a decent price but the post deserves a huge NEG for misrepresenting the product being sold. This can be just an oversight but the representative of the store should have done a better job of providing an accurate product description instead of defending the deal. Showing the review for the USB 3.0 Model and selling the USB 2.0 model is just wrong.

    • +2

I agree, further more with the pressure of 'only 20 in stock', someone might have jumped the gun thinking it was a v3.0.

      • +1, very sketchy business tactics…be very wary tanuj, the ACCC takes these kind of practices very seriously!

  • Agree with Y'ALL! misleading! I do not give the benefit of the doubt in cases like this, I dont believe it was an oversight.

    • Fine have your opinion and you may well be correct, but its not valid for voting negative. Read the guidelines please.

BTW if you think a deal is deliberately misleading REPORT it and the mods will decide.

  • +1

I hope everyone banging on about USB 2.0 vs 3.0 has a 3.0 capable controller on their computer!

    • Irrelevant, it's about misrepresentation…the USB 3.0 model is $40 more, and is a completely different product! That's what the banging is all about! ;)

      • Instead of all the banging on would someone please explain what the issue is about, now the post has been corrected to read 2.0

Or is there something else I dont understand.

I',m holding off on removing the other negative votes in case there is something else here.

And please, they may have been trying to mislead or it may have been a mistake. I am prepared to give the benefit of doubt here

        • +1

I've revoked my neg since I read your other comments! Yes, you are right, the deal has been amended, so I pulled mine voluntarily - I actually agree with you for a change dude! :p

          • +2

@StewBalls: Well dont make it a habit, others may talk….

And thank you for the explanation - I thought with your change I might have missed something.

  • Word Up! stewballs. 'mis rep re sen ta tion". Which is why I negged it… Hey! what happened to the other -ive, there was two of us!

  • +2

I would like to clarify a few things as store rep.

    1) The link to review was a stuff-up. I googled for review from a reputable site and posted the link without going in details. It was a mistake and I apologize. We have had 5 orders so far and I have put them on hold and contacted the purchaser's to advise of the USB 2.0 issue and they will get full refund if they want to back out.

    2) There are indeed 20 only in stock. There is no pressure.

    3) Thank you to the Mod for being fair.

    4) We are new to this site and we are learning the ropes .. a making a few mistakes .. but there has been no intent to mislead (just wanted to clarify this as there are 2 neg votes on this).

    Thank you

    • +2

As Mod I have removed the negative votes, but not the comments. I think they have been fair comments and I see you have taken those comments onboard, so the end result is that everyone learns.

This is a Bargain site, our members look for bargains, they are a discerning and critical lot. If it isnt a bargain they will let you know quite forcefully. Some retailers cant understand that.

As bargain hunters they will be loyal to you while you offer bargains, if you change your way of doing business from this model, they will desert you. Or if a competitor offers a better bargain etc.

Its the nature of the beast…

That said feel free to offer any bargain - the more you offer and the better the price, the more our members will take from you. LOL

      • Whoa. I didn't know OzBargain mods remove comments from posts. Censorship!

        • +2

whoa to you ragflan - I never said I was removing comments. I was pointing out that the comments were valid - ie I have no disagreement with the comments. Just that were not valid for justifying the vote. Please do not put the wrong spin on things we say.

For gods sake, I even emphasised, this with my comment about defending someone right to make a comment!! Cheesh please read things before going off half cocked….

And we can and will censor comments that are totally against the guidelines. Before you start criticising mods have you ever had the courtesy to read those guidelines.

Some examples. Threatening and abusive comments. (not angry ones) Obscene. Completely off topic, Or for example spam. A number of overseas visitors try to promote sites etc by making a comment in a thread. We remove those.

So get some sense here before you start making wild accusations and irresponsible remarks.

Oh and these big bad "censors" left your comment up…

          • @[Deactivated]: Easy now. I was just remarking as I didn't know comments will be removed at all on Ozbargain. Relax. I didn't mean it the way it sounds. Sad that with all the advancements in technology, we still cannot convey tone on the Internet. I meant it like: 'censorship! :p'

  • Might as well change your site name as well - "deal gone in seconds" is rather misleading. The only way your deals are going to be gone in seconds is if you have even less stock.

  • Yep, Censorship, not a big fan of that either. ozpete, I do believe we are allowed to vote, I dont recall ever noticing a +ive vote being removed because the 'deal/bargain' wasn't that good to warrant a +ive vote, according to a MOD. Therefore by that standard a -ive shouldn't be removed either.

    • +1

ozf1, we don't moderate +ve votes because they give an indication on the popularity of the deals. Negative votes on the other hand are not about disliking deals and they do have impact on the OP, the visibility of the deal, and the community in general (those who may find the deal beneficial may miss out).

If you haven't already, I would also suggest that you read the voting guidelines as the voting system here is quite different to those used by most sites.

Rather than hijacking this deal post, feel free to continue your discussion about voting moderation in this forum thread.

    • There are no guidelines of what you can vote positive on. There are guidelines on what you can vote negative on.

      EDIT: what pauly said.

    • One point please ozf1. When you joined the site you agreed to the T&C's. Did you at least have the courtesy to read the guidelines that this site runs under.

Those who follow the guidelines have respect for the others here, who do.

Ones you might want to consider are.

Using the report button, so mods can catch things faster and fix things that are plain wrong. Thats the best and faster tool rather than the negative vote.

The forums where you can talk with the moderators or raise issues about the way the site is run. As Pauly has shown in his comment, there is active discussion about what should be a standard negative vote. Participate in that if you really want to be involved in this community.

This isnt Censorship. Its just asking you play the same way others play here. Not go off on your own. Its a community, for sharing. If you dont like whats being shared move on.

  • Sorry, I needed to get some sleep, therefore could not continue discussion.. turning towards argument. ozpete, pauly had alot more courtesy in his manner than you. Please also note tomsco's comment… cheers tomsco!. ozpete, you imply I have no respect for others and you tell ragflan he potentially has not had the "courtesy" to read the guideline etc. he practically ended up apologising!
You sir are very touchy when disagreed with, and ended your statement to me telling me to like it or lump it!
I do like what's being shared, seems to me you are the one who doesn't like what I and some others share when it comes to opinions.
