Was looking for a deal for YAS-106B for a friend and bumped into this, seemed a deal worthy of sharing here. Free delivery for online orders Up to 20km by road from selected Betta stores. Pretty good reviews overall.

Don't forget Cashrewards.

p.s: I do understand that a standalone 2.1 will be much better, but everyone has their preferences.

Edit: clarified free shipping condition.
Edit 1: Damn the deal got Ozbaragined. I really hope my friend for whom I was looking this up for managed to get through :)

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305904 - can't combine with this offer :( still good price

  • +1

    Cheap.
I prefer this than soundbar with separate subwoofer.

  • Good deal. Pity the closest store to me is over an hour away, so no free delivery. :(

  • Good deal! I bought last time from eBay binglee when 20%off around $240. For me sound effect is good enough!

  • +14

Was 329 now 198. Save $90. Haha sounds like my wife doing maths

  • Hmmm is this worth getting when I have the Harmon kardon speakers built in my tv?

    • +3

Any soundbar is better than built in TV speakers.

  • +1

I have one of these, excellent sound for the price.
Downgraded from a Yamaha 7.1 full size surround system to neaten up the lounge area, not disappointed.

  • "Free delivery for online orders." - need to clarify that.

Mine says $80 delivery as my closest store is 101 klms away.

Great find of a deal though. Probs worth the drive to pickup a few if I can get some friends in on it.

    • done, updated with "Up to 20km by road from selected Betta stores"

      • my closest one is 10km away and they still charge me $20??

EDIT: nevermind, I didn't read the locations

  • Thanks OP.

Not negging, just got excited. Thanks for the update as I was trying to find T&Cs on site but you beat me by a mile. Cheers.

I've ordered two, one for each end of the house. See if friends want as well before I do run on weekend to collect.

    • no worries mate, I just added the shipping offer based on the banner on the site's homepage, didn't look into the conditions apply.

      All good now. Cheers.

  • Thanks very much OP.
I bought these at last Bing Lee 20% off sale (eBay). Wanted to get another 2 but they are going for $300+ now.

You've saved me a couple of hundred $$.

  • I had a unique birthday voucher and managed to get another $10 off.

It could theoretically be someone else's birthday today.

    I think save 5% with code "SAVE2DAY"

EDIT: if you sign up email

    • +2

signed up and got the same code. But it doesn't work for this item

    • +2

It does provide that coupon code if you sign up but it doesn't work when you try to apply it.. 'Coupon code "SAVE2DAY" is not valid.

    • +2

I think the 5% doesn't work on sale items

I've tested this soundbar at Goodguys a while back. I compared it with all other similar soundbars in the store. This is the top notch in terms of sound quality among others. However, the base is not good enough and may need an additional sub-woofer. I've been waiting for the price to drop and here I have it!, thanks OP

      bass*

      • I read this correction on my phone this morning and thought you were correcting the word PRICE in the last sentence.

Sadly, I've come back too late for the deal this time.

Do you need additional Amp for sub or add a sub direct as subs normally have amp inside?
Is it better than Sony which used to appear here quite often with sub?

      • The YAS106 has a line out for a subwoofer.

        You can either add:
        - a powered sub. It will have an amp inside so just hook it up, tune it and you're set; or
        - a passive sub. But you will need to run it through an amp first to drive the sub.

You can find heaps of powered subs on gumtree or eBay to try it out.

As I've mentioned in another comment, the YAS106 doesn't allow you to place a cut off frequency for the sub line out - so you need to make sure the sub you use has one (it'll be a knob that allows you to select a cut off frequency between 20-200hz for example) otherwise, the entire frequency range is received and the sub gets all boomy.

        • Thanks. Cut off frequency is not that simple I suppose. You need to know how much the existing speakers can do.

        • @Gaggy:

Good thing about any cut off frequency knob on the back of a subwoofer is that it's easy to tune.

So set it high, sit back and listen, then tune it down to your liking.

Doesn't really matter what the existing speakers can or cannot do. It only matters how everything sounds altogether.

  • thx OP. deal too good to miss for a nice good value set up

Does the soundbar turn on by itself if i turn on the TV? and can the volume be controlled with the TV remote? I currently have a Sony HT-CT180 which doesn't have HDMI.

    • +1

      HDMI ARC

  • Thanks OP, bought one for my bedroom

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got one! Pickup from Kingsford shop. 3% cashback!

  • +2

Yas, I finally got one!! Sounds like one of the betta deals :)

  • +2

Oh no, I brought another speaker :-(

  • Anyone seen similar Yamaha's but with a sub?

Only cheap one i can find is at The Bad Guys for $398
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/yamaha-soundbar-100w-yas-203b

But there out of stock :(

    • This YAS106 has a subwoofer/lineout. So you can connect any subwoofer you want.

Just make sure the subwoofer has a dedicated frequency cutoff, because the 106 doesn't and it'll be all boomy.

      • Could you please suggest which subwoofer/s would be recommended for this soundbar? cheers in advance :)

        • +1

It'll depend on your room size, budget, music/movies etc.

Any active/powered subwoofer with a frequency cut off knob, a volume knob etc will work with this. Everything else is up to the user.

@JahjaMan: Thanks for the reply! :)

Bought it earlier this year at HN for $250 inclusive of amex $50 cashback. Using it to replace the inbuilt tv speakers.

I had to buy a Coaxial in - Toslink Spdif out adapater and cable to get audio from my TV but may not apply to you if your tv has spdif out

  • Can I Bluetooth this to my phone?

    • +1

Yes you can. There's an app that acts as a remote to control the soundbar as well

      • Cheers :)

Order cancelled by my local. Received a call saying no stock with Betta or Yamaha and it's been discontinued. Offered a Samsung but didn't bother.

    • +1

      Oh wow. Disappointing.

  • +2

Extremely unprofessional of Betta, Apparently huge amount of orders were accepted yesterday with no or limited stock availability.
I was advised that even Yamaha doesn't have enough units available to ship as a newer model is to be rolled out in July. Betta is now sitting on money from several shoppers.

    • Several or several hundred

      • Betta is now sitting on money from several shoppers.

        Don't worry. They'll get a refund.

        • Doesn't matter however the fact that many units were sold with limited actual stock in hand is fraudulent. Even 1cent in interest earned on service not provided is wrong.

        • +1

          @Jet_k:

sold with limited actual stock in hand is fraudulent.

Bad stock management, for sure. Fraud, no.

  • +1

don't know how many in total, However the 2 stores i spoke to in Sydney had each received 20 + orders within the last day. First store had none in stock while the other store had only 3 available and was yet to be delivered.

  • Damnit, I've been keepung an eye out for this very specific model, missed out.

You snooze on Ozbargain, you lose.

    • +3

I ordered within 15 minutes and still got cancelled so don't feel bad.

  • Darn

  • +1

I have not received any emails confirming or rejecting the order yet.

    I ordered yesterday at 11pm

    • +1

I ordered mine this morning at 8am and also haven't received any emails or calls to cancel the order yet - fingers crossed

      I just got this email:

      Hi there,

Thank you for your order placed on www.betta.com.au. Due to the overwhelming response to this special catalogue price, we have been working hard to arrange and allocate stock of this model from back orders.

We are doing our best to secure stock of this sound bar or a suitable alternative for you, and will be in touch regarding these options in the next 24 hours.

Thank you and have a great day.

      • +1

Same email however my second paragraph was this:

We are pleased to advise that you have been allocated the stock of the Yamaha YAS106B that you purchased on our website. We will be in touch in the coming days with further details.

        Let's see what happens.

        • I got this version of the email as well

        • Got this version too.

        • me too, happy I stuck to my guns when the local store rang. Why not let it ride and see eh?

      • +1

F-ing hell, my friend got this email. Looks like they are not allocating the units based on the time the order was placed :(

      • Got the first email. Not holding out high hopes.

  • Got this email today,, Hope I will receive it soon

    Hi there,

Thank you for your order placed on www.betta.com.au. Due to the overwhelming response to this special catalogue price, we have been working hard to arrange and allocate stock of this model from our stores.

We are pleased to advise that your order has been allocated to one of our stores with available stock of the Yamaha YAS106B and if they haven’t already, they will be in touch with you soon with further details.

Thank you and have a great day.

  • They have called me up and offered a replacement with free shipping. The replacement is JBL SB150.

Meh, I've accepted the offer. It has a seperate wireless sub woofer.

    Im happy overall

    • They offered me the JBL SB150 too.

Does anyone know much about this model?

      • Got the same offer.
        Rejected.
        Ask for refund.

    • Got offered the JBL SB150 for the same price too - no deal. I hope all the refunds rack up enough fees to teach them a lesson and they'll implement some sort of inventory control.

    • No hdmi and therefore no HDMI-CEC or arc makes baby Jesus cry

  • ALso got the same offer. I asked for a refund, and the guy said he will call me back in the next day to see if he can locate additional stock.

  • Anyone heard back from Betta about allocating stock yet? I got the email saying they allocated me stock and would be in touch in the coming days …. wonder what their definition is of "coming days"? They are sitting with all our cash!

    • +2

Call their national office 07 34148700.
They told me which store mine was coming from.

      • +1

Thanks, I called them this morning and apparently it will posted to me this week, so all good (hopefully)

        • +1

I also phoned and was advised they were receiving stock today or tomorrow and it will ship then.

  • Mine got delivered today to Newcastle from a store in Bateman's Bay. I ordered local pickup but they shipped free due to no stock locally.

  • Got a message from them stating they're trying to contact me to arrange an alternative. Have replied back (as I'm overseas) stating I'd just like a refund.

A bit surprised they haven't just done that in the first instance..

    • They seem to be delaying my refund for some reason.

I called up asking for refund and they said they have to put me through to someone from 'head office' who will get back to me. This person hasn't contacted me and when I tried calling again he was not available? Surely someone else can do the refund and not him.

  • +1

    Got a refund ;-(

  • Received email - online order is being shipped with Fastway Couriers and the tracking number XXXXX :)

  • Received mine yesterday. Shipping label said it had come from Yamaha warehouse a few days ago. Happy camper. :)
