presumably to fix this rare condition

  • Dont waste your money, not the real deal….turns white as soon as you start brushing. Like children toothpaste.

  • Don't buy whitening toothpaste. It generally uses abrasive ingredients that cause minor damage while doing next to nothing to whiten.

Go to a dentist to get them professionally cleaned. If you want to try whitening, use carbamine / hydrogen peroxide with a tray designed to hold the solution based on a mould from your teeth.

It's more expensive but actually permeates and whitens your teeth rather than scraping away the surface layer like most whitening toothpastes do.

      " minor damage "
then they should not be approved by health department and sold in the stores?

      • +10

The health department only approves medicines, and toothpaste is not a medicine.

As for being sold in stores, tobacco is sold in stores, and it is definitely harmful. Don't depend on stores to save your health.

You understand the ordinary toothpaste has abrasive ingredients in it right?

      • +2

Yes, but basically whitening toothpaste is more abrasive than it needs to be with next to no meaningful gain. Bleaching is a more effective whitening technique on the other hand that does not rely on abrasion if whitening is your aim.

While we are talking about low level abrasion, long term regular use of more abrasive toothpaste will erode away a greater amount of enamel which will ironically make your teeth appear more yellow because the yellow dentin underneath will show through more prominently.

  • Whatever happened to the bleached teeth craze a few years ago where the celebrities all had ultra-white teeth that looked fake and ridiculous?

    • +3

More to the point - what's happened to their teeth?

    • Wasn't aware it had stopped. I assume most of them are porcelain veneers, maybe some of it composite bonding. You would hope some of the mid 20-30 celebs aren't grinding down their teeth to fit porcelain.

It's kinda funny, when you watch movies from the 80-90s where big name movie stars have uncorrected or relatively yellow teeth compared to today and no one batted an eyelid.

      • They weren't veneers, this was when bleaching became all the rage.

Most of the celebs had teeth that were so ridiculously white they had a bluish tinge to them.

        • Depends. Usually the better condition your teeth in are originally, the better results you can get from whitening. The most existing enamel there is, the better whitening works.

Seeing some especially 40+ actors in movies right now, I can guarantee you those are veneers. It's possible some of them use some of kind of prosthetic for certain movies, but bleaching simply can't achieve those results.

For example, just watched War Machine with Brad Pitt. 100% those are not natural teeth.

It's it made with Australian "clean" coal ?

    • Either that, or it contributes to deforestation instead.

  • Just use match stick. .its wood and you can make coal from it to clean teeth ot utensils

    • I use it to clean ear wax.

      • I make fancy candles from my ear wax.

        • +1

That will be quoted next time someone gets "interviewed" for an article about OZB

        • Ear wax is healthy for ears and to preserve hearing sense.

          @vr4indian:

It's also great for making fancy candles.

  • Dentist here:

I was going to warn everyone not to waste their money on this but RedSky has already done a good job.

If suitable, professional teeth whitening with a dentist is the most cost effective way to go.

Dentists get to use the good stuff that non-dentists are not allowed to use due to legislation.

Feel free to PM or reply here if you've got any questions about teeth whitening.
