  • How would the performance compare to a Motorola G5 plus?

I realise the latter has latest Android software etc ..

  • +1

Would of thought about this but just got the xz premium. Not bad for that price.

    • Yeh I just ordered the XZ Premium from unlocked-mobiles in the UK. You get tax off it so phone costs £540 plus £20 shipping to aus and also comes with free XB20 speaker worth 150 bucks.
All up premium cost 960 bucks, 850 if I sell the speaker.

I'm now debating cancelling and buying this instead though as 400 is a great price…

      What to do?!?

EDIT: just seen that the performance doesn't have 4k recording which I use a fair bit… More than double price (premium) for a 4k screen better camera and bigger storage..worth it?

      • +2

If you care about 4K recording, you can enable it with root :) https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x-performance/how-to…

If you can afford the Premium, I'd get it. It's gorgeous, it has better speakers, better display, uses the latest chipset, and will have a decently improved camera (which it seems you care about).

        • +1

You make a good point, I've ordered a performance just in case but will most likely return it, I just don't want to have the premium and then after a few months think ahh why didn't I just get XP for half the price!

Then again I am so hyped up for the new one, like you say brand new sensor in it!

      • +2

I have ordered from the same place. Keep with the xz premium it will be a great phone. Might get one of these for the missus though.

        • +2

Haha great ozbargainer's think alike ;)

Sony Xperia phone software is shocking. I own a Xperia XZ and a lot of app crashes… If you can afford, get iphone or Samsung….

    • +2

I have an Xperia z2 and its still good..

      • I have an Xperia z3 and it's still good too!
After this, they don't have the magnetic dock anymore, so I'm keeping mine as long as it lasts

        • +1

Theres no magnetic dock because the flaps over charging port isn't necessary anymore haha

        • +1

@cwongtech: Yeh true but he's probably worried about port wear and tear which will still happen over time. I use a Z3 with dock atm and it's also nice on the bedside table as an alarm.

        • +2

@bloobat: Exactly. Whenever a device like this breaks for me, it's the USB port wearing out.
Also, I love having the phone docked in front of me at work, telling me the time, weather, bitcoin price, etc

    • I had an S4, worst phone I've ever owned.
Never buying a Samsung p.o.s again

  • +1

Very good price for a 2016 flagship

  • Wtf went to checkout and now telling me no longer available?!?

EDIT: works if you switch to desktop browser

    • Could you please take a look at the order status. Mine is canceled instantly after my payment. I used PayPal.

      • I just received an confirmation email straight after and nothing since so hoping mine goes through!

  • I paid. But the order status is "canceled " So is it gone?

  • I tried 3 times. 2 times with PayPal and the last time with credit card. All canceled. It is gone. I am emailing them for a refund.

  • My order status is still "in progress ". When will it be changing to "canceled"? I just placed my order in 15 mins by using PayPal.

  • Too bad she's in white..

  • Mine just shipped (i ordered like 30 mins ago) - so back in stock guys

  • Ordered last night and mine just shipped. Ig does say 1 per person so maybe for those with it cancelling the system maybe messing up and think your placing multiple orders?

  • Any deals on the Xperia X Compact? I can't find one at a decent price anywhere?

    • +1

I would say worth waiting as I imagine they'll be releasing a true compact flagship in the second half of this year. The X compact is their worst compact so far IMO

      • Thanks I was looking at the Xiaomi Mi5s as a replacement for my Z3 Compact which is falling apart but I might wait now - my existing phone still works it's just got lots of issues :)

I love the form factor of the Sony compact phones but they are really pricey.

        Cheers.

  • How's the X's camera vs Galaxy S7? How fast is the auto-focus? Thanks guys

    • I am using S7 and I am waiting the X Performance to be delivered. I will try to compare both device's cameras when I get X performance.

      • Hope JB still have stock by that time ;)

    • I had the htc 10 and this phone, image quality was better on the 10 while focus speed was better on this.

  • Bit the bullet and ordered one. Confirmed a minute later.

Any recommendations on a minimal case?
How are the Glass screen protectors with curve screen?

    • How are the Glass screen protectors with curve screen?

Not good. The adhesive is only on the perimeter. The screen itself will be unresponsive to touch due to a layer or air between protector and glass.

      • I did a bit of research last night and the curved screen ones also give warning that they will not work with a case as well. Since I'm not willing to go without a case, I decided to get a non curved one.

        • That's smart.

I got an S8 and a non-curved screen was not an option. Samsung forced that largely useless gimmick onto every customer. The curved version of previous models carried a $150 premium too that we have to eat even if we don't want it. That's why the cheapest S8's RRP is $1200.

I'd take a flat screen over a curved one any day, but the option isn't there anymore and likely won't be for their future flagships.

  • JB Hifi website is now saying all GONE ….

  • +1

One day for delivery. Well done JB hifi. I'm impressed.

  • +3

Ordered on 30th May night, received on 1st June in Perth. Delivered by Toll.

One thing that I might have missed on the product page (it's now gone) is that the phone is Telstra branded as the "4GX" logo comes on when turned on and Telstra logo when turning off. Was it ever mentioned on the product page at all?

    • +1

Same. And I cant connect to mobile data. i'm with Optus. @.@ idk what to do.

      • So it's locked to Telstra?!

        • No. I think it is just branded with Telstra and has their apps. . Got mine today after overnight delivery from VIC to WA. Not too shabby. I doubt it is locked but I'm using a Boost sim which is Telstra so I cant check. I'm about to de-brand it anyway. It can be done without unlocking boot-loader and using official firmware so should be fine for warranty. Google Flashtool

        • @spazmodik: thanks Yeh was intending to flash it anyway and add 4k video while at it was just surprised to hear it may be locked!

        • No, it's not locked, but it is branded. As pimpstimpy said below, you just need to get the APN settings correct. I'm on Virgin and I just looked up the settings and added them manually. Or you can do as pimpstimpy suggests, which is probably easier.

      • Connect your phone to Wifi, then go to Settings -> More -> Internet Settings to download APN settings to connect to 4G

Then tap Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names and confirm your selected APN is "Optus Yes Internet"

        • Oh thanks! I'm just terrible with technology. Haha. The Telstra branding is gone after I did this.:)

    • call Optus to send you config for their network.
or they can talk you thru setting up, should work after that. if it was locked, it wouldn't have let you in at all.

There you go guys (google cache).. No mention of Telstra lock :(

Perhaps they can get it unlocked for free for you.

  • Managed to flash stock Au firmware without unlocking boot-loader fairly easily. I don't miss the Telstra crap. Took me a little while to get the drivers installed (for flashtool) as Windows 10 doesn't like installing unsigned drivers and I needed to bypass that.

  • Anyone who bought this phone how long is the battery lasting for? And how much does the battery go down over night? Wife says her phone loses nearly 50% over night when she is sleeping

    • Two words: Rogue apps.
