that is how you make horcruxes

    • +2

No way lol. Which one are you?

      • +3

        The overdressed one!

        • +3

You and your username don't match.

  • +11

I found an orange t-shirt during the Ozbargain treasure hunt.

    • I hate you…..

    • But have you worn it in public?

      • Haha no, I actually gave it to another Ozbargain member as I didn't want it.

    HS basketball team.
1 point behind, with 3 seconds on the clock.
team mate went for a shot but was a complete air ball so did an alley oop and won the game.

    Uni life
triathlon standard course - 1.5km swim, 40km bicycle and 10km run

    now
buying a house in Sydney and starting my own family.
    best achievement to date!

    • +1

Hmmm, yeah, maybe I should change mine to managing to snag a lady person and making an ugly genius baby (my looks and her brains) with her.

    • +1

What job do you do that you can buy a house in sydney?

      • +3

        Starting player in the NBA.

  • +7

Took my mother on a tour of Europe and America when she was 64 years old. She was a complete trooper and had a ball.

    • +6

You say that like 64 is a disability. 64 is still young these days.

      • +10

She was a very young 64 year old - fit as a Mallee bull; went everywhere we went and we set a pretty gruelling schedule. Unfortunately she died at 69 of lung cancer. Cigarette companies are complete bastards.

        • -3

That's terrible that she died but your tone still implies 64 conveys some sort of dependence. Most 64 year olds these days are little more than older 40 year olds, if you get what I mean.

        • +10

@Burnertoasty: Some of them are, some of them aren't.

I think you may actually be missing the point I was trying to make whilst you are obsessing over the "age thing" - which is that I took my mother on an around the world tour and she had a ball. I would thoroughly recommend that people do that if their parent(s) don't think they can do it on their own.

  • We recently walked from Tianamen Square right through the Forbidden Palace precinct for 41/2 hours - 9.5 kms. It was hot and quite an exertion, but we made it! Had to, to get to the bus, also walked up the Great Wall. Just getting up the steps and down to start was an achievement in itself.

    Finishing uni

Married my wife for the past 20yrs :)

  • +9

Reading stuff like this is sometimes depressing but also a good chance to reflect on the things you have done and check back on what your goals are in life!

Pretty proud of my current uni project, redesigning the steering column for our race team, it was hard but things are starting to come together!

Coming out and moving out of home, patching issues up with my Dad.

Starting to learn Japanese, did it in primary school, always wanted to do it but parents said no, glad I am taking the plunge at uni.

They all seem like such small things but looking back on stuff like this always makes feel better about where I am now and where I plan on going.

Mines in the toilet…. very proud i was

Quitting smoking (repeatedly…), having children, having no regrets

    • I can say that as welll…I smoke but I am not addicted to it…I do not feel the urge to smoke (have been smoking for 10 years on and off) and can go without a smoke for months…

Last smoke was 1 month back and before that 12months…

      • Yeah ok, you're not addicted at all. Just like all those blokes on Victoria St, Abbotsford. They can quit anytime they want. Just one more hit.

    • -2

It's not possible to quit smoking repeatedly, you can only do it once. Taking it up again shows a terrible lack of will power and is not something that should be celebrated. The fact that you think quitting repeatedly is an achievement is part of the problem.

      • +4

I get what you're trying to say but statistically most people need to quit a few times before it sticks. Probably not the nicest thing to go around telling people they have a terrible lack of willpower.

      • I too have quit smoking a few times. I am not addicted to it anymore. I can't see me being an addict again. Quitting nicotine is not something easy to do if you are addicted to it. I'd consider quitting is a great achievement - even if there had been fall backs.

"The fact that you think quitting repeatedly is an achievement is part of the problem."
Of course he doesn't mean quitting more than once it better than doing it in the first go. Quitting repeated is the path to the solution.

    • everybody has regrets, unless you have no ambition

      • I am ambitious - and have had successes and setbacks. But I don't regret my choices good or bad. YMMV

    Had KFC yesterday

    • … and didn't puke after

Raising over 2k for brain cancer research, for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation

    • +2

At first glance I thought you donated 2Kg of brain for "research"….

      • lol

        • Well, the user name checks out : )

  • +29

Went from 128kg fat f**k to a normal 84kg human. Did it in two years. Used to be 44" waist now 34"

    • Well done how long you kept it off?

  • +12

Walked from Campsie to Chatswood (Sydney) and back - around 44kllm round trip. Not bad for. 50 year old me thinks.

    • +2

      Got mugged?

  • Completed the man or mouse challenge at the pyrmont bridge hotel.

    • +1

      Do elaborate

      • +1

Managed to use LG G4 for 23 Months, before the boot loop.

    • haha nice! Mine died just outside of warranty…

      • There were some touch and go moments. It was a roller coaster ride with this phone. My sense of adventure says go the G6.

    • So it didn't trouble you at all for 23 months before the ride started? I have had it for about a year with no trouble whatsoever so far but I am not too confident about coming months ;)

      • +1

Nah, boot loop happened after about a week and then every 6 months. It would become operational, after I smacked it around and swore at it. This phone has some kind of fetish.

        • Gotta hit da G spot!

    • Mine lasted 16 months

  • I once played Gun Smoke on the NES and nearly got all the way to the end without dying. Unfortunately died a few times on the end boss. It was an amazing feeling though, like being touched by the hand of God. Usually I die heaps on those types of games.

  • +26

Helped bring a guy back from dead [flatlined] 3 times during a road crash rescue …. that one is definitely up there.

    • +1

      Absolutely.

      • Depends on the person, I'd probably take a pass on Donald Trump.

        • Was that "pass" or "piss"? When we lose people like John Clarke, and yet this clown is president of the USA, it does make you wonder about a supreme being.

        • @try2bhelpful:
Take a pass, ie/ not save his life.

Taking a piss sounds tempting, but we can't go around leaving DNA evidence around ; )

        • @Kangal: I know that was what you meant; I was just projecting. To avoid DNA we would need to get the dog to take the Wizz then.

        • @try2bhelpful: Didn't know they could DNA test urine?

        • +1

          @John Kimble:

          http://www.forensicdnacenter.com/forensic-faqs.html

"Are you able to get a DNA profile from urine?
Yes. A profile can be obtained from urine"

You might want to be a bit more careful where you micturate.

    3rd Dan

    • Is this matial arts?

    • -1

Never had a Dan; maybe a John, or a Peter. Impressed you've had 3 of them.

Came to Australia all by myself at the age of 17. Survived law school (with English as my second language) while struggling with depression.

Became a solicitor, an Australian citizen, a public servant and a proud OzBargainer :P

    • +4

congrats for your education but the thing with "public servant" not sure if everybody would agree

      • +1

I'm not sure either to be honest :) I've only been in the public sector for less than a year and the bureaucracy annoys the crap out of me!

At this stage I am still deciding what to do with my life.

      • +1

Yep, in other countries being a public servant has a certain cachet that does not apply in Australia…

    • +3

…are you me? Same story here!

      • That's awesome! Hopefully you are still enjoying your job lol

  • +16

    Stopped smoking.

  • Figured out the future, in so much as a person can.
Actually, figured out the explanation of the future by Timothy Leary & his crew
in their book, "The Game of Life."
A frivolous & weird book that requires one to learn heaps more about
life, the universe and everything before coming to a understanding of the future.

    • +3

      User name checks out. :)

    • Tomorrow is a mystery and yesterday is history that is why now is called the present.

A turtle taught me that before he disappeared.

  • Won a Ben & Jerry t-shirt.

You only get one of those when you've had everything on the menu (or the perception of it).

  • +3

I once cycled 9000 km over 90 days across the USA with a buddy during university.

  • -8

Am I missing something? Walking 32km isn't particularly hard, you just have to not stop walking.

    • +7

      Yes you're missing something. Empathy

      • +2

        OP is 16 words.
I feel like there's a longer story that isn't being told, and no one else seems interested in asking.

      • -1

Empathy and EQ are weaknesses and just lead to bookshelves with Belle Gibson cookbooks.

        • Your son comes home beaming with excitement telling you he came first in a maths test. And your reply is 'I couldn't care less son'. …Father of the year.

        • @Cusack:
          I'd demand a paternity test.

        • @Cusack:

he came first in a maths test.

Me: Well, you're an Asian, of course you did…

  • -7

no one cares what anyone else did/does, gtfo

    • +2

      Some people do.

      • I do. It's great to share these things.
