Hi folks, i was looking for an IPS monitor in range of $500 for photo editing. Finalized BenQ BL2420PT and Dell UltraSharp 2515H, which are QHD on 24 inch and 25 inch screens respectively. Decided to go for Dell because of their after sale service and warranty. This one is about $580 on Dell website and they offered me $530. Cheapest was $425 at warehouse1 without delivery cost. So $400 is the cheapest I have found online. Bought one for me.
sRGB 99%, refresh rate 56-86hz

Here is one at Dell outlet, selling for $299. You must be quick

Yes I checked that before buying but they are offering 1 year warranty and this one is with 3 years replacement warranty even if you have one bright pixel. I preferred 3 years warranty for extra $100.

    • By the way do they have an outlet store or the only option to contact them is chat? This monitor doesnt have built in speakers so i need to keep an eye for a sound bar.

      • +1

This monitor doesnt have built in speakers so i need to keep an eye for a sound bar.

The Dell Sound Bar is not not particularly great - in terms of sound and aesthetics. I think it looks out of place, but it's only $39 delivered from Dell? It's the same price from this eBay seller: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DELL-AC511-Stereo-USB-Powered-Sou…

so not sure if you could get $10 off with one of those eBay offers if you spent more than $30.

I've got an older set of Logitech V20 USB powered speakers which work greats with my U2515H plugged in to the back.

        • Thanks for the advice.

      • You chat online with a rep (always an Indian it seems) to order.

    • 1 year warranty.

Still $100 saving might be worth losing 2 years warranty. The choice is for you to decide.

      • I was thinking the same. Will chat tomorrow and also ask futu how to cancel order.

      • After looking at prices on dell outlet and all other factors, i cancelled my order with futu. There is huge price difference at dell outlet for some very nice monitors so i better keep an eye at outlet and look for some as new or refurbished one. I dont need it urgently anyways.

    • Alright, which one of you guys ordered this (and the 27" version) from Dell outlet!

I was online this morning and it was gone already!

      • Not me. I checked at 9:30 and was gone. I wanted to make sure first that i can cancel my order with futu and get full refund before ordering at Dell outlet. I have been trying to contact them but there was a long hold so i hung up. Any idea if i wanna buy extended warranty for an item bought from the outlet, how much that gonna cost?

Isn't 25inch a bit too small to get much out of QHD?

but then again i constantly get confused, whats the diff between QHD and 4k?

    • +4

QHD means 2560x1440 pixels, UHD means 3840x2160, and 4K in general means ~4,000 pixels, but most people equivalate it to UHD.

    • +1

To. me, QHD vs FHD means sharper photos and more area to work. Like you can hardly open 2 windows on 1920x1080 whereas you can easily open 4 windows without resizing on QHD. Drawback is that text will be smaller and hard to read if you have weak eyesight.

      • yeah ..i have a 27" 1920x1200 and i can't myself getting a smaller screen, especially if i move up in res and want multiple windows

        • +1

The dots are pretty big if you only support 1920 on a 27-inch screen.

        • I don't know if it will work for me as i havent seen any 24" screen with QHD. I might have difficulty reading text but i can change the resolution when not working with photos.

        • @quarrymaster: thats what my photography teacher advised. Go for QHD if you want 27" screen. For FHD, dont consider bigger than 24"

        • @sidozziee: I don't know if it will work for me as i havent seen any 24" screen with QHD. I might have difficulty reading text but i can change the resolution when not working with photos.

If your computer supports 4K, go for 4K at 24-inches or 27-inches. This way you'd be running in HiDPI mode. I tried running 1920 x 1080 on the U2515H and boy it was beautiful! But with my older Mac it was via a hack and the graphics card really wasn't up to the task…

Point is, once you have a 4K display, you should be able to switch between resolutions on the fly to suit your tasks and the screen will still be gorgeous.

        • +1

@quarrymaster: yeah i'd love to buy 4k monitor but my pocket won't allow me :;( ultimately I need to buy some Eizo monitor but atm, i just wanted something affordable and reasonable quality coz my Dell XPS's screen is not even FHD and totally crap. I have to go to uni to do my photo editing work on Mac screens.

    • Depends on sitting distance.

      It looks beautiful to me.

But if you play things in lower resolutions windowed, it will look very small.

  • QHD 2,560x1,440
    UHD, 4K 3840x2160

  • +1

I want a 4k monitor around this price and 27"-32".

  • +1

+1 for Dell. I use the 24" Ultrasharp FHD model for my photography and the colour reproduction is spot on. Really wished for a QHD 25" model though for the extra pixels.

I'm hoping to upgrade to a ultrawide model in the near future once those prices come down.

    • What model do you have? I have checked reviews and found out that best one is Dell UltraSharp 2415 for a 24 inch FHD monitor.

      • I have the Dell U2414H model which is a 16:9 aspect ratio and a res of 1920x1080.

        The U2415H has a 16:10 aspect ratio. Res 1920x1200

Bascially you get more screen real estate with the U2415H. Was out of my price range at the time so I went with the cheapest best option at the time. I think I got it for around $275. Can't complain. Love the matte finish over glossy.

        • I think 2415 and 2415h are different. I read about 2415.
You are also doing photo editing so you can tell me better if its worth it to throw extra $200 for QHD instead of FHD, that i can find for around $200

        • @sidozziee: More pixels is always handy for screen real estate and helps with sharpness of photos, but my hardware at the time couldn't drive past 1080p screen. I'm waiting for next Macbook Pros - hopefully announcements tomorrow at WWDC. I have a PC too but I'm not a fan of Adobe CC so I'm not going to switch. The software I use now is Luminar for editing and its only on Mac at the moment. I use capture one pro for my DAM.

My monitor only covers 99% srgb colour spectrum - which is fine for web or screens. There's screens that are 4k that cover more colours and can produce over 1 billion colours which are more suited for printed photos etc.

I'm only a hobbyist at the moment with the photography. Small steps

Is it worth the upgrade? that depends on how serious you are.

        • @KitchenSink096: i personally feel that if u r serious, u need to go for high end Eizo monitors or something like that ultimately i.e $2500+ investment. Rest, $200 fhd monitor or $600 qhd monitor dont make much difference. But its just my opinion. Not sure if its really true. The only benefit i can see with qhd is more screen real estate. And as one user mentioned, 2515h doesnt have 1:1 scaling. I just checked what this is actually. Didnt know about that and i think that is very important to have as well.

  • +1

    20% off $500 = $399.2 ??

Did you actually bought from Shopping Express $499?

Future Gear $462 is a bit cheaper (end up $377.6 delivered from NZ after 20% + shipping) but their listing is a bit dodgy and I'm not sure if there will be warranty issue.

    • I wrote $400. Was edited by someone. It's my first post so don't know how it works. I paid $400

  • Managed to use this code a few days ago to get an Acer IPS 4k screen for $360, I don't know if it's still available but if interested search for it.

    • Can you give me the model number?

      • CB241HYK

        • Was this an import? Can't seem to find info on Acer's site in english.

        • @lostn:
I'd assume not as I bought it from Grays online (ebay), but indeed there seems to be minimal info on this monitor. It is definitely a 4k ips though looking at the official (non eng) site.

        • @clse945111: I couldn't find info on what connections it has (HDMI 2.0? DP?) and how many of them they have.

        • @lostn:
          1 HDMI
          1 DP
          1 VGA

Not sure about the version of HDMI, but the monitor is 60Hz.

        • @clse945111: VGA.. that's odd. An analog format they stopped using long ago. I didn't even know VGA was capable of 4K resolution. Even DVI I don't think can handle it.

        • @lostn:
Just got it today, it's DVI-DL/HDMI/DP.

  • +1

I have one of these. It's good.

A word of warning though, it doesn't support 1:1 scaling. You can scale to 4:3 or 16:9 only.

A second word of warning, the capacitive power button can be very insensitive. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If you've turned it off, and want to turn it back on again, it usually takes minutes of touching it before it will register. Maybe that's working as intended I don't know.

After long periods (as in hours) of non-use, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

    • Thanks mate. I just checked what 1:1 is. I guess that is very important feature. As far as my understanding, if i am watchin a fhd movie on it, i will look crap. Is that true?

      • If you watch a FHD movie from your console or bluray player, it will be scaled to the full screen. How good that looks depends on the scaler. I don't think it looks that bad (some monitors are much worse at scaling than this one), but if you're someone who prefers FHD to take up only its native resolution and no more, you won't have that option.

Some Dell models have 1:1, some don't.

How important this feature is depends on the person. To me it's important, to a lot of people it won't be. Those people probably would prefer their picture filling up the screen anyway, even if it makes things look soft.

I personally would not use this screen for FHD things, but to people who don't mind, I don't think you'll be upset with the image quality.

  • Got this monitor last year September for $480
Pretty good monitor but the quality of the power button is a bit of a let down.

    • After some research i came to the conclusion that there will always be some trade offs in this price range. benQ BL2420PT is a good option but i am not sure about their quality, reliability and after sale service.
