Amazing price for WipEout Omega Collection, everyone get on it!!

  • Target/Bigw been killing these deals lately

Are they trying to push EB out of the market?

    • I remember DSE having awesome deals and look what happened to them….

I wonder if the controllers are V2. I've had three V1's just stop charging. Tried changing batteries to no avail :(

      • +1

Is there any way to tell if they're the V2 controllers?

        • +2

you need to look at the code of product, or the colour of package. the new DS4 has the box in white, not in blue. The code should end with 02.

The new version has the light bar on the touchpad.

        • +1

Version 2 of the reds and blues will have similar color backplate, so fully red/blue. The first version will have black backplates. Easiest way to identify.

        • @yummycoot: Only if you've already bought them and got them out of the packet. I get what you mean, though.

        • @kendo: Thanks

So is that pic of version 1 or 2?

        • @star64: as you can see in the amazon image, it has a lightbar in the front, so its version 2.

        • Target online and catalogue shows the V1 controllers. I hope they have V2 controllers at the Target warehouse.

        • @yummycoot:

          new, turned off

Looks on to me, unless that's a reflection.

        • @lostn: no,its off as it is white light. if it was blue, then it would have been on. I know there's tons of colours in the lightbar but its turned off.

      • +1

There are a lot of tricks to make them work again, and I found most failed. There was a combo button press one that did work for me. Something like hold the option button and PS button for x seconds?

If you guys remind me I'll try look it up. I bookmarked it on my laptop.

    • No way mate. They both only offer very selected games hence be able to offer good price. So you'll still need EB or PSN to buy other games include different editions

    • +1

EB doesn't care, they make their money ripping off suckers and selling their games back to other people.

  • -3

Okayish price for Prey maybe. I dunno. If AFL Evolution is an Australian game i wonder if the money they would receive is for local game companies, just a thought.

MK8 an older title, now a port, pass.

Wipeout is just a rerelease right of old games, meh. Thats a shame.

    • +1

WipEout is a remaster of HH/FURY/2048 for 4K/60/HDR which is particularly awesome for 2048 which many people never played but is quite amazing.

      • -5

Unless its a handheld game to home system, cant really justify it. Alot of re-releases now.

        • What do you mean? It's been completely overhauled mechanically and textures and lighting redone to look amazing while also capable of running at 4K/60. It's far and beyond a rerelease, it's a pretty comprehensive remastering that really takes advantage of the PS4s oomph.

        • @OfTheOverflow:

Can't justify buying games just for Mo Visuals. Not a good reason to buy a game, play for gameplay, not to see how nice it can look, visual obsession one of the worst traits of the current gaming era. Unless it does something drastically different gameplay wise, its a no from me. Same with the Mario Kart 8 port, the battle modes should have been in the original.

        • +3

Omega collection brings Wipeout 2048 (hand-held game) to the home system (PS4).
          Aswell as obviously HD/Fury.

        • +1

@Shibbyyy: Vita game right? I guess i could see some getting it for that, thats alright. Hopefully they revive the series.

        • I'm going to get Wipeout on PS4 and keep swearing at Nintendo for not releasing F-Zero game since GC.

        • @Donatello: FZero is good but a tiny bit overrated, it was never a huge franchise but decent. I remember alot werent really that into it at the time during GX. N64 had one of the better ones along with SNES, handheld ones. Nintendo has succeeded it somewhat with Fast Racing League, Fast Racing Neo and its Pseudo-Sequel Fast Racing RMX. It has similarities to both Wipeout, FZero, Rollcage and Mario Kart.

MK8's track design incorporated a bunch of Fzero stuff, could have been a nod.

Im sure we'll see a new one at some point, not sure if they would want to risk oversaturation but i think it could happen on this system or the next.

I think seeing another Crusin, Excitebike or Excite Trucks is also possible. Fast Racing has somewhat revived the genre.

      • It needs Gare D Europa from Wipeout 2097. That track + Qirex + airbrakes is the only reason I fell in love with Wipeout.

  • Platform ?

    • As per the tags, it's for the pee ess foor

    • -1

Would be better listed in the title. Not that Target really sells games for real gamers anymore :(

  • +1

When does it start? Lucky I held off buying HZD, $39 is a bargain!

    • FYI from Pressstart link above.

The deals will begin on Thursday, June 8th and run until Wednesday, June 14th.

      OP please add this..

      • +1

It's in the OP. Look underneath. Shows the calender.

  • +1

Now I need a kickass deal on a PS4 Pro to play Wipeout in 4k!

  • +1

Horizon for $39 just 3 months after launch just boggles my mind. its GOTY material, a new IP, and selling extremely well. Why the hell would sony price drop to half price 3 months in?

  • Horizon zero dawn for $39 is a bargain !!! is the current list going to be the only games going to be on sale?

    • +2

There will be a few more for sure! Best to stay tuned to this week's catalogue :)

    • +1

These went of sale today which aren't in the catalogue

      • Doom PS4/XB1 $44 was $69
      • Fallout 4 PS4/XB1 $44 was $69
      • FIFA 16 PS4/XB1 $29 was $39
      • Super Mario 3D Land 3DS $49 was $59
      • +2

Probably didn't put those PS4 games in the catalogue because the prices aren't good.

Doom has been $17 at Target in the past and is currently $25 at EB (or $19 pre-owned). Fallout 4 is part of JB Hifi's 2 for $40 sale (or $25 individually). And FIFA 16 is pretty much worthless.

  • +1

Target always comes through with good deals, they're the saving grace in aus

    • I trust them to deliver the goods with Destiny 2, FIFA 18 and COD: WWII as well as other various post E3 reveals..

  • To those still buying full priced games.

  • -1

Joy Cons at $99 and Switch Pro Controller at $89! Is that a new low for both?

  • Mario Kart 8 - 3 years old, $5 more than what I bought it for on release (at Target IIRC). Nintendo really like to keep their prices high.

    • Nintendo don't really give you more than than 33% off 3DS titles on any of their core IPs, and that's always in the onboard shop where the prices are already inflated. Also, I don't think they allow brick-and-mortar stores much wiggle at all which is why gaming sales never include 3DS. For instance I haven't seen Fire Emblem Awakening go below $59 in a shop since its release in 2013.

The only games that ever seem to go on sale are the Resident Evil series, some early niche titles, and digital-only smalltime games have turned out to be stinkers.

      • +1

It only took 4 years but Fire Emblem Awakening was $36.95 at The Gamesmen a couple of months ago and is still below $59 now.

        • There you go. I bit at $64 last year (current JB price) purely because I'd been desperate to play it. Must admit I wouldn't have checked out The Gamesmen because they're not really on my radar as a Victorian and I rarely buy online. They do have some great prices though. $42 inc postage for Bravely Default is probably one of the better prices I've seen on that title.

  • Horizon Zero Dawn - the only open world game that I have played and enjoyed till today. The only open world game I finished. Got the Collector's Editon for $199 from EB Games - absolutely no regrets. But if some one wants the game only, for $39, it is an absolute steal.

  • +3

all the games that i have interest in are for ps4 only. maybe i should've sold my xbox and kept my ps4

  • I wonder if ebgames will price match target on ghost recon wetlands eb has it for $44 and target will be $39.
I know its only a few dollars but reason being i have $25 gift card to use and if the priced match target game would only cost $14.
Would the price match now or not till the target deal is live.

  • Hi, I have a brand new and sealed copy of watch dog 2 from target. Do you know if I can trade this in at target to receive a $39 store credit? I have lost my receipt.

    • Do you know if I can trade this in at target to receive a $39 store credit? I have lost my receipt.

No. Target never did trade-ins. You might be confusing this with EB Games.

At the risk of suffering the same fate as BNN on page 1, I also don't think Horizon Zero Dawn is the "GOTY All Years" that people seem to treat it as. The story and setting are great and fairly inspired, but the rest of the game is about as average as you can get. The 'weak spot' combat mechanics should've gone the extra step, and removed the need for monster hitpoints entirely (akin to the internal component system from some roguelikes and War Thunder) and then they could've built the combat system around a more innovative mechanic to extend its playability (and replayability).

And HZD has some of the worst, most boring human enemy fights in AAA videogame history. This is because the human enemies don't use the weak spot system mentioned above, and use only a old fashioned HP bar. Hold the bow to stock 3 of the heavy arrows, shoot human enemy in the head using slow-motion, and even the hardest human bosses in the game go down in one hit. Really cheap but why would you not. It is beyond embarrassing when the game wastes up to a minute of my time giving an NPC enemy a big introductory cutscene only for me to down him with no fight whatsoever. However, the robot fights are positively fantastic.

Another issue I have is with the games graphics. When you're going for hyper-realism (some of the facial recognition stuff is great, but some of it is…. very 'uncanny valley', namely the way certain 'enthusiastic' NPC's give such wild, open-eyed gasping emotes when talking), bugs and visual glitches REALLY stand out, even to the untrained eye. I only bring it up because that's all people talk about these days, but there are many multiple NPC models in the game who have perfectly-realized faces stuck on generic 3d model bodies, tend to totally break immersion when their nose clips through their headgear or their foreheid goes through the weird headdress they have. That and some of the larger robots kinda fidget around on small scenery, and occasionally skip animation frames. This sort of stuff happens in all games, but when your whole thing is "Look at my graphics", it makes it much more obvious.

Look at, for example, the parkour system; it's so underdesigned that it nearly has no place being in the game at all; it is only in there because it is in other games. The same can be said about the crafting system to a degree, but at least it is not as blatant as the "YELLOW CLIMBY BITS" parkour system. It's funny when, compared to Zelda BOTW which released just one week afterwards, HZD's climbing system seems quite rigid and dated to Zelda's "I can go anywhere and climb anything" open world, which also has less road-blocking and cheap level caps to guide player advancement, might I add.

Overall, it's Witcher meets Far Cry meets even a little Naughty Dog, and it is in no means a "Bad game", I am just disappointed that the industry heaps praise on what would be seen as an 'average game' by 2010 standards. Praising games so similar to existing games will only prompt this developer and others to stick to what they know will work, resulting in a severe oversaturation and a reduction of product variety. Overall, HZD has a greatly unique setting with memorable moments, unfortunately shadowed by 'generic' design practices. If you don't play a lot of games in the sandbox/3rd person genre, you will likely love the game, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Uncharted 4 is a fricken masterpiece tho'.

    • +8

      Thanks for the review.

      Still buying it.

    • +2

Uncharted 4 is a fricken masterpiece tho'.

      Too right!

Also yeah, I preferred BOTW to HZD, but it's still a great game.

      • It took me a while to go back to HZD after playing BOTW, and after finishing BOTW and loving every second, I couldn't even bring myself to finish HZD. I did watch someone else play for story reasons, and the HZD story far surpasses that of BOTW, but if you want an enjoyable sandbox game that will give you a legit feeling of exploration or "I did it!", then I would recommend BOTW over HZD. No matter how unique the setting is, HZD feels like a sandbox game I've played where Zelda was totally in its own class.

But yeah, HZD not a bad game. But I have more games to recommend ahead of it.

    • It's 39 bucks mate.

A movie ticket costs 20 bucks, even if we spend 4 hours playing it, it will still be worth it.

Full priced your review might matter but who pays full price these days.

      • -1

With videogames, I like to get an hour per dollar spent. "Why? Why should a movie and a videogame be scored on a different dollar/enjoyment scale"

Because there are simply better games out there that you can buy for less. I judge simply based on the fact that 39 bucks is still double the full price of indie games I've had significantly more fun and time with.

Would you go and see a boring, 'safe' movie that does nothing new if there was an awesome and original new blockbuster at the cinema? This game exists in a bloated genre, and it does not excel at anything it does. It's totally acceptable and passable, but I couldn't recommend it even for 39 bucks for a game that defines mediocrity.

        • I prefer my games to be short. Hours per $ spent don't mean anything to me. I'd rather have experienced 5 games at 10 hours each than one game for 50 hours, even though it's more expensive. The longer games usually outstay their welcome anyway. When you've played 10 hours of it, you've seen it all. The rest will just be more of that.

When I was a kid I couldn't afford my own games, so anything I got I wanted it to last. So those 200 hour games were amazing. As I got older, that reversed completely. I could buy the games I wanted (due to steam sales, my backlog is now through the roof) so the shorter they were the better. Money is no longer an issue, because games aren't that expensive really, but time is.

    • +1

I bought it in this sale, I like it but I think your points are valid.

The human combat is below average and their AI is poor as being able to whistle a camp to death really isn't a great game mechanic. A simple improvement would be, when you whistle or throw a rock and the guy is alerted, he tells his local buddies he is checking it out, if he doesn't return in x period the entire camp is alerted. I also think sucessfully hitting an unalerted man in the back of the head with a fully drawn arrow should be an instant kill. Also when any silently killed body falls, it acts like a whistle / stone attracting attention.

This would make you want to setup traps for amushes and trying to take out guards that aren't too close to other guards first. Then when the traps are triggered you could send in a large overridden machine as a distraction while you go to the alarm.

      • The big robot fights, like the Stormbird, are normally pretty great fights, but even still not as good as anything from niche specialized games like Monster Hunter. In one major boss fight, I was able to stand behind a box and shoot at it by utilizing a glitch in how the camera/aiming system works; the boss had literally no chance of hitting me whilst I just chipped away at it for ages by shooting through cover box. This glitch popped up multiple times but was most notable in big story sections. The worst part is that I didn't need to look for this glitch or read it online, I merely happened upon it accidentally. My brother says "If you hate that method then don't use it", but I argue it shouldn't be there in a game getting 90+ scores from everybody.

That said, ohmigawsh monster hunter on PS4/xbox, I can't yes hard enough.

  • Target online free shipping been upped $100. Wasn't it $40, then $80 and now $100. :(

I know I can click and collect, but these days with being so busy and being time poor (hell of gaming backlog), it's just convenient to have it delivered at home.

  • Has anyone noticed these prices active yet?

  • Was looking at the catalogue and noticed the uncharted 4 and horizon zero dawn games appear to be in a box starting June 9 rather than June 8 like the other games. Not sure if I'm correct or not

    • Oh yeah, I see it too "Awesome Playstation Deals… start 9th June" ???

  • Just went to the Bendigo Target store, they haven't even received Wipeout Omega Collection stock.

A little annoyed that they have it listed in a catalog yet no stock at all.

    • +1

Not even listed on Target website? How can we buy online?

      • ARMS is listed online but is currently unavailable for purchase

  • I want to buy HZD for $39. Should I wait up 'til midnight? Is that when it starts, or tomorrow morning?

    • Prices change at midnight AEST.

      • Thanks man, perfect answer

      • 12:12 AM still haven't changed yet. :(

        • +1

That's because PlayStation 4 deals start June 9th, as per the OP and the catalogue itself.

  • Went into target on bourke street today and all the titles mentioned here weren't on shelves. I spoke to the dude working there and he said this always happens. Head office sends them a few copies halfway through the sale period but they get a whole bunch of copies once the sale is over. Hopefully they get a few copies tomorrow morning. I've been looking for a good deal for uncharted 4 for the longest time

    • My thoughts exactly… I've seen this happen before, many games out of stock in less than 24hrs

      • The sale hasn't even started yet. Spoke to a mate who said they had most of the titles last Saturday. My guess is they've been taken off the shelves in time for the sale

    • Uncharted 4 was on sale digitally on Aussie PS Store for just $22.95 with PS Plus. Such a good deal. It was around March iirc

  • Sorry abit confused but when is this sale starting? Would be keen to try horizon zero dawn on ps4 for that price.

Any chance of ordering online or price matching in jb etc.

  • EBGames price matched Wipeout, Horizon Dawn and Uncharted 4 a day early for me. Woo!

    • How did you price match? The price of horizon dawn on targets website is still 79 and there's no catologue right?

      • Took in photos of the catalogue pages :)

    • Which store?
