Refurb Soniq PVRs - Twin Tuner PVRs 500GB $37.95 | 1TB $37 - Free Pickup from near Mordialloc VIC or $12/item P/H @ Soniq.com.au

170

This is oooooooooooooooooold stock dating from approximately 2010. The EPG interface is shocking, typical of equipment of that era. But hey, a twin tuner PVR with a 500GB for under $40?

EDIT: They're also selling a model with a 1TB HDD for 90 cents less!

500GB https://www.soniq.com/au/shop/refurbished/media-players/refu…
1TB https://www.soniq.com/au/shop/refurbished/media-players/refu…

The instruction manual indicates that the 500GB model is capable of decoding MPEG-4 channels (a MUST for HD), while the 1TB version only does MPEG-2 (effectively making it SD only)

If you're not interested in the TV function, it might be worth stripping the hard disk out of it. Or maybe not.

Pick up is available from the Soniq Warehouse in South-East Melbourne.

52 available of the 500GB
110 available of the 1TB model

  • Stripping a 7 yearb old HDD out? So 500gb for 40 bucks or 2tb for 100 hmm.

I think most people would recommend the PlayTV tuner instead. $20 from EB:

Takes some effort to find and install software to use it, but I dread to think how bad the PVR software on the Soniq is.

And a 7yo used HDD is worth …?

Does the $15 discount code still work?

    • Does the $15 discount code still work?… Coupon code not found. Please try again. :-(

The model was introduced in 2009, that does not mean the unit sold is that old.

But then you need a PS3, PC or Raspberry Pi to make it functional.

  • I have never owned a Soniq item that I didn't find to be total rubbish and a major disappointment.

My mother bought a 32 inch Soniq TV about four years ago that is still going strong and she's never had a problem with it. I've even got one sitting in it's box as a back up for when my TV dies, I think they were $199 or something from JB at the time.

Add an old computer monitor with HDMI input (or use a cheap HDMI to VGA adapter from China), add powered speakers = cheapo TV for kids or bedroom.

    • Have you ever used a PC as a dedicated pvr (htpc)? I'm looking at options as my awesome Magic MTV4000 is on it's last legs.

Have considered, but have a few cheap PVR & no computer (other than Android & Win Tablets)… so no.
(Bought a Panasonic PVR for $10 in the dying days of Dick Smith. It's got the above setup - discarded Samsung monitor, HDMI to VGA, powered speakers for occasional bedroom use.)

  • OP - you originally had the word "REFURBISHED" in the title, but then chose to remove it …. makes a bit of a difference if they are new or second hand rubbish

Would seriously struggle to get $37 on ebay for second hand/used PVR that's more than 7 years old

"Note: Do not neglect the color buttons; They will help you enjoy more funnies" < that's seriously in the manual, wtf hahahahaha
