    avoid ctrip!
    Lot of people complains.
Cheap flight/ hotel for reason (e.g: low priority flight ticket)

    • Ctrip is perfect when in 'China' only…

    • What does low priority flight ticket actually mean? i booked on Ctrip last night for a Chinese domestic flight lol now im worried

  • CNY 800 or 1000 or 2000 for one night even in a major city in China is expensive! I just booked some stays and will be spending max AUD20 (100 CNY) a night (per person)

    • You would be surprised the living condition of your 20 a night hostel

      • Omg, my 20/night/person is a 3 star hotel! But yeah I did book some 15 a night hostels too.

    • Can you share some examples (in say Shanghai?)

      • Ah I went to Shanghai last year but I splurged on accom and spent $100/night for 2 ppl. Just go on booking.com, that's where I book all my stuff. Don't forget cashrewards.

For my upcoming trip my cheapo stays are in Xi'an and Sichuan province. Mostly 3 star hotels (a couple of ibises lol) and a couple of hostels.

  • Ctrip is also very handy for booking high speed rail trips in China.

    • Except for there stupid compulsory credit.

And you still have to line up. Good for trains that sell out quickly but otherwise crap.

      • That's true, that's an annoying detail, you have to wait to get the physical ticket.

  • Ctrip is now notorious in China..

  • I work at Sydney international airport, and I have worked for two different Chinese airlines. Just a friendly reminder: avoid ctrip at all cost!

    • Are they OK for hotels?

I have a fully refundable booking for a Hotel in KL with them. Ctrip are more than $100 cheaper than the lowest on hotelscombined.

      • I can't comment on their hotel booking but their ticketing service always have problems

    • What are some of the things that have gone wrong with the passengers who have used them? I need to prepare myself now lol

      • +1

Had many passengers name booked the other way around on ticket, some had unconfirmed tickets (open tickets)….
When the passenger tried to call their call centre, the phone operator is clueless and struggled with English

I booked about 20 nights with ctrip in china last month, and a similar number last November.

It's an excellent service for booking flights, rail and accommodation*. However, there is one problem about booking accommodation with this site.

In order to accept foreigners, hotels in mainland china must have special government registration. Unlike Agoda, ctrip does not delineate between "domestic resident" hotels and foreigner registered hotels. This is usually ok, as ctrip will ring you within 15minutes of making a booking to tell you if the hotel cant accept you.

However, this is not always the case. Last month two hotels I arrived at said they weren't registered to accept me. One allowed me to stay away (risking huge fines) and the other cancelled my booking on arrival, which meant I had to find another hotel on the spot at a much higher rate.
