Probably the only place to have the i5 version with 8GB/256GB SSD. JB's got the 4GB/128GB SSD variant for $933, so this is a good deal considered.

This is a great alternative to a similar sized Lenovo (and noting the much lower cashback offer).

    • Which one are you referring to?

      • I have found that Dell has better build quality and after-sales service than Lenovo for comparable (similarly configured) items. I have no experience with HP, so cannot offer an informed opinion.

    Looks pretty good.

Would this be a reasonable (better?) alternative?

  • How does this compare to zenbook ?

Just want a basic portable ultra book for uni.

      Review isn't great. http://www.trustedreviews.com/dell-inspiron-13-5000-review-b…

Personally wouldnt buy it myself, up to u.

      • IMO trustedreviews.com is the most untrusted and waste of time site one should use.

    • I bought one for uni. For that, it's totally fine. battery life is fine for a day of note taking, touch screen is handy as well for folding back to use to read journals on the 13.3 Hd screen, not the brightest but I use it at around 60% brightness when on battery and don't have an issue.

Creaky chassis, probably a part of the whole 2 in 1 design, but sturdy enough, same footprint as a 13.3" MacBook pro (I use a MacBook pro zip up case and it fits).

TL:DR. it's fine for the money, wish list would be a backlight keyboard but other than that, fine as a uni machine and I ran stats software no worries on it, and edit photos (DSLR), and make 1080p video edits using powerdirector fine with it.

      • This one is an Inspiron 13 5378 and is listed as having a Backlit keyboard on the website. Is your's the same or Inspiron 13 5368? I'm going to order this but if it doesn't have a backlit keyboard as listed on the site its going back!

        • mine must then be the 5368 if that's the only difference. mine is the i7-6500u 2 x 4gb version, so it may have had a refresh.

    • wow!

in the market for a laptop, but I don't think this appears as good value. I am probably using an unfair comparison to the xiaomi mi air and chuwi tablets. Recommedations anyone?

      Maybe this?

Doesnt have Dedicated GPU but 16gb RAM. Use the CRACK20 code and it goes down to $910

    • 2 in 1 always cost extra. Similar ranges like lenovo yoga costs similar when they're on sales.

    • Consider the benefit of local Aussie warranty, and the touchscreen with 360 degree hinge.

Against the Mi Air, yea not good value but I prefer Dell's support and local warranty.
I wouldn't know the first place to go if my Mi Air had any trouble and even if I did, I am looking at
~$100 for even a minor repair?

But again, it was a personal choice of convenience over cost.

      • I love seeing these lenovo deals popup - but they tend to be for the budget E series.

But yes - trade off between price and service.

I'm edging towards the Mi Air right now.

        • Next Mi Air deal and I am all over it!

I ordered this last Wednesday and delivered yesterday(Friday). Quite impressed with the Microsoft Store turn around.

Also note the reviews mentioned above are for the 6th gen cpu device. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

    Pro:

    • Feels snappy and the only time it seemed slow was when it was doing the windows updates.

    • Yes, there is backlit screen (shanks43)

    • Screen seems pretty bright and nice.

    • Touch is nice to use. First time using Windows 10 on a touch device and I am fairly impressed.

    • Feels solid. Kids will be using this as well and I am quite happy about it.

    • Windows Hello sign in is supported.

    • Power adapter is nice and small

    • Microsoft signature edition - so no bloatware and I did not have to do a clean install. Just had some dell update stuff and MS Office pre-installed.

    Cons:

    • Bit chunky. Not as thin and light as the higher end models.

    • There is quite a bit of bezel around the edges.

    • Windows Hello sign in is supported.

You sure you got this with the above mentioned deal? I got mine yesterday and when I went into the sign-in options menu Facial Recognition was disabled. I can still see 2 cameras at the top of the lid, so I was hoping it would be the IR-camera for windows hello.

      • I am certain. The only thing I can think of is you might need a windows/firmware/bios update. It took more that a hour to get windows and dell updates.

    • Hi rvyshopping. Sorry I wanted to confirm whether the keyboard has a backlight not the screen. I'm curious because the same model sold by Dell doesn't have a backlit Keyboard. Can you confirm since you bought this Inspiron 13 5378 model from Microsoft?

      • oops sorry my bad. I meant keyboard. It definitely has a backlit keyboard.
