JB Hi-Fi - PlayStation Plus 12 Month Membership $34.27

3300

JB Hi-Fi

PlayStation Plus: 12 Month Membership (Digital Download)

Offer available from June 9th

EDIT 1 (7:55am): It appears that you are no longer able to add the item to your cart.

EDIT 2 (8:10am): The page has been taken down and the link no longer working

EDIT 3 (3:30pm): JB Hi-Fi have replied via email to all purchasers of the discounted memberships. The transactions will be cancelled but as a good will gesture, they are offering a gift card valued at $14.70. Please note that if you have placed multiple orders you will only be entitled to the one gift card valued at $14.70.

This is a good outcome for those of us who did buy early this morning. Thanks to JB Hi-Fi for the gesture of a gift card. Well done guys… and please, go easy on whoever made the mistake. They've made everyone's long weekend just that little bit better. Cheers!

EDIT 4 (one week later): By now most who got in on this deal will have received not only one gift card from JB Hi-Fi but two gift cards. This was an added "bonus" but it meant you had to act fast. It allowed you to get a yearly membership to Playstation Plus for only $19.57!!! Two days later and JB Hi-Fi were cancelling these second cards. Several people have now said their second cards are no longer working. Anyway, it was a fun ride. Hope it worked out well for you.

The difference will be recognised as revenue. The gift card total will be the same amount but treated as expenses on income statement. With/without gift cards give different ratios for financial analysis and bank debts.

This also a damage control solution as one code per buyer regardless how many orders made under the same account hence the loss will be lower whilst still sort of honouring the price error.

  • +2

Just got off the phone with JB Online to ask where my code was. They confirmed it was a pricing error and there were a heap of backlogged orders that they couldn't process. HOWEVER they will be sending everyone who ordered a gift card so you can re-purchase at $34.27.

They said emails would be sent out shortly.

    • +1

How would we repurchase when it's not $34.27 anymore?

      • With the gift card they send you? Assuming it's for roughly $15

        • It went up to $48.95 but they took it down again

    • -3

Gift card of the value we are being charged to buy it at the higher price in store. Mega stuff up by JB… if this is the case then they've lost my business. I really hope not though

      • +2

Relax my lantern friend - sounds like you'll still get your PS Plus subscription but you may have to place another order to do so. I've seen plenty of OzB's jump through much more complex hoops to save less cash before!

Does sound a little silly, but I'm sure there's a reason behind it. Probably related to their accounting and EOFY figures…

      • +1

I'm not interested in a gift card. If this is the case I'll be going for a refund

    • +1

Good outcome if this is the case.

I bought knowing it was a likely price error, but hoping they'd honour it.

If they do so, that's best case scenario for me, even if it requires reordering.

    • That sounds really convoluted, why not just send the codes rather than mess around with gift cards / reorders

  • +3

Confirmation from JB staff at modbury.

Contacted them, they've contacted head office.

    Confirmed this was an error.

She's confirmed that those who have purchased it legitimately (from the sounds of it grabbed 1 or 2) should still be honored, codes to be send out if you have paid for it.

Any issues contact online by email, however they have been smashed.

    Good on em :)

EDIT - just saw the comment posted while I was on the phone. Interesting, I was just told it would be honored so long as you didn't go crazy on it.

    • +1

Thanks for putting in the leg work on this. I look forward to hearing more from JBs. Cheers!

    • Those who have paid, so does PayPal count I wonder since they haven't actually taken money yet. Fingers crossed…. I only purchased 2

  • +6

congratulations for those for purchase 1 or 2……condolences for those who purchase for 5 or more.

    • +1

pretty much from the sounds of it, sounds like they're looking to look after those who weren't trying to screw them.

      • +3

guess the early bird that gets the worm does really pay off, minus the vultures….

  • They just replied to me on Twitter saying they'll be emailing people about it.

I only ordered 2. Used PayPal and the money is out of my PayPal account as "Authorisation"

  • Was it possible to buy more than one code with each transaction, or was it meant to be one per person?

    • +1

From memory, the quantity selector was greyed out (set to 1), but I don't know if you could just do another transaction afterward.

      • +1

        I placed 2 separate orders

        • Same here

        • @AusGreenLantern: same, I used different JB and PayPal accounts but didn't use a different IP.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:
I finalized one transaction then clicked on add to cart again and just did the process over again. Same PayPal and JB account. Buying 2 isn't greedy considering they're digital codes

        • @AusGreenLantern: I know, only reason I did was because they had the option for more than one greyed out.

  • Yeah, I bought 3 over 3 orders, one for myself and 2 for my house mates. Hoping they honor them but won't get my hopes up

    • I bought one for me and one for my brother (who actually works at JB). But he was still sleeping at 6am this morning so I figured I'd grab one before they sold out.

  • So any news when they'll get sent out now?

  • Haven't had herd from jbhifi or PayPal apart from the standard email everyone got sent. Just bought 1 for myself

  • If a company puts up the wrong price, people purchase it: are they legally allowed to take that offer away even though it was a mistake? To my understanding, it's the company's fault.

For example: I went to JB HI FI and they had a game @ $59.00 which was the 1st day launch sale, but I got it the 2nd day and I didn't know it was a launch sale. It scanned at $79.00 and I said: "the price at the front said 59 and the sticker on the box says 59". The rep advised it was a launch sale, but he honoured it and gave it to me at 59.

    • In store yes they will honour any price that is advertised mistake or not, online they dont have to because theres terms and conditions that customers adhere too when we use their site and agree upon sign up/purchase

    • +1

Common law also states if that if there is obviously a pricing error they don't have to honour it.

    • We are all hoping they'll do the right thing by their mistake

  • The link is back up and you can have it for $69.95!

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/platforms/playstati…

    • lol it says best seller! not surprise….they will honour the mistake from the feedbacks.

I pity the guy/girl who most probably in graphic design/website division.

Hopefully they don't get fired for a price mistake and hopefully learned from their mistake as the ozbargain community take this seriously from the opportunity cost aspect. :)

In the meantime…..I need to search for another PSN 30% discount elsewhere as I thought the sale started on the 9th.

      • Written warning at least for person responsible

        • Hmmm lotsa warning letters given out in all the ozbargained past "price error" deals hehe.

Well we are here to help them improved! if you think of it of the good side way.

If Amazon was here…..pretty sure Jeff Bezos would have fired the person as he is one of those person doesn't tolerate mistakes like that.

        • @luffyex2010:
Haha yep usually they would just get a slap on the wrist but not at this kinda scale a little harder to ignore poor fella

      • Well right now you have the Big W $49 option (if/when their computer system updates things). EB has advertised them for $48.95 in store. So there are a few choices, if only Coles/Woolworths jumped on board there would be even more choices.

    • back down to $48.97 now.

  • I'm wondering if their system automatically applied the 30% off for the sale and they didn't realise and manual put a 30% off as well which kicked up their price… oh well potential win for us OzBargainers

  • +6

I just got off the phone now and was told the codes are definitely coming today.

    • Fingers crossed

    • Would be such a beautiful gift to celebrate this long weekend gifted by the Queen.

    • I haven't even been charged by JB yet so I doubt my codes will come today.

    • -1

      Looks like you were wrong

  • +3

    Hello ,

    RE: Online Order #

We are sorry for the delays in the processing of your order.

Unfortunately, there has been a pricing issue in our system that has prevented your order from being completed. The 12 month PS4 Subscription was incorrectly advertised at $34.27 and so as a result all orders have been automatically rejected.

As a gesture of goodwill, we will be emailing you a gift card to the value of $14.70 () which can be used to place a new order for the subscription at the same price of $34.27 if you wish to do so. Please note that this subscription is only on sale until 16/06/2017 so if you would like to purchase this item at the same price, it will need to be done before this date.

For Credit Card refunds: Please allow up to five business days for your bank to process the transaction.
For Paypal: Please allow 24 to 48 hours for notification of your refund via email.
For Gift Card: Please allow 24 hours to receive a replacement gift card via email.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Please note that if you have placed multiple orders you will only be entitled to the one gift card valued at $14.70.

    Kind Regards,

    • +1

Got that aswell, not a bad outcome. Someone must be having a bad day at head office.

    • got the same.

    • +1

Got the same, but nowhere does it say we are getting a refund? only a 14 dollar discount? wheres my money?

      • same.

      • +1

For Credit Card refunds: Please allow up to five business days for your bank to process the transaction.
For Paypal: Please allow 24 to 48 hours for notification of your refund via email.
For Gift Card: Please allow 24 hours to receive a replacement gift card via email.

right here i posted it all above.

        • Yeah I think a few of us got a different email.

    • +7

      Well done JB Hi Fi.

That is a goodwill gesture indeed.

      clapclapclap

  • Just got an email from JB, it seems that all orders are going to be rejected, however as a goodwill gesture they will be sending a giftcard to the value of $14.70 which can be used to order the subscription at same price of $34.27.

    • so, does this mean I get 34.27 back and also 14.7 extra?

      • Someone tell him, so I will know too

        • +1

Yep - you will get your original payment back + the gift card so effectively we can all get the PS PLus for 34.27.

        • @shiraj: my email does not say anything about refund, just mentions the goodwill. I am confused.

Does the $34 belong to Jb Hifi now and can only be spent there or do I get it back on my paypal?

        • +1

          @yummycoot:
          \
Nope - the email says your orihginal will be cancelled
"You will be receiving an automated email from our Verification system advising you that that your order has been cancelled due to our terms and conditions, please ignore this"
So - if the order is cancelled, we get refunds and then we buy again before the 16th. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

        • @shiraj: great, so I get $14 just for spending $34, nice!

        • +1

          @yummycoot:
Yeah but if you do not use it on rebuying the PS Plus sub, you don't get the special price :/

        • @shiraj: i will decide once I see the deals on US/Canada PS Store and amazon etc.

      • +2

Sounds like we'll be paying the new price of $48.97 but with the $14.70 voucher, they're essentially honouring the mistake price of $34.27 …

Very roundabout way of handling this?

  • Got that too. Dont know what is the point of refunding, givinrg away vouchers and then most likely selling the membership for effectively the same price.

    • +2

By doing so they get to claim full price for sales tax purposes and claim the gift card as an advertising expenses.

Not an accountant but I believe it benefits them for that tax purposes.

    • +3

Well they've limited the goodwill vouchers to 1 per customer. Assuming some people bought multiple cards, that alone will save them money.

  • Unfortunately, there has been a pricing issue in our system that has prevented your order from being completed. The 12 month PS4 Subscription was incorrectly advertised at $34.27 and so as a result all orders have been automatically rejected.

As a gesture of goodwill, we will be emailing you a gift card to the value of $14.70 (GC REF Mod: Removed Personal Info) which can be used to place a new order for the subscription at the same price of $34.27 if you wish to do so. Please note that this subscription is only on sale until 16/06/2017 so if you would like to purchase this item at the same price, it will need to be done before this date.

    • Same here, looks like they're honouring it
      What nice chaps

  • I made 2 separate orders - one PayPal, one straight CC.

They said I'll get the one voucher only but I did get two emails with two separate transaction IDs. Will be interested to see if they worked that one out.

    Where is my refund?

  • A good outcome. They could have cancelled them entirely but at least with this we'll still get what we want. Now to wait for those vouchers…

  • +2

I suppose this is what they had to do because of people ordering multiple codes. Would have been cool if they just honored it for people who only bought one instead of making us jump through hoops, but hey, at least they did a make good of sorts.

    • Probably far less admin work this way. Just cancel all the orders, get a list of unique customers/emails and send out a voucher, then process the purchases normally as they come in.

  • I got the email too. Good result. Perhaps I'm missing something, but unless some people don't use their voucher, how are they any better off than honouring the sales?

    • +1

They've limited the vouchers to 1 per customer, so anyone who bought multiple cards will only get the price honoured once.

    • The email did specify that it was automatically rejected, so I am guessing it has to transact at the correct price for Sony's system to release a digital code (meaning JB is accepting the difference through a gift card but it transacts through at the correct price to release the code). Just a guess.

  • +2

Wonder if you can use the gift card on anything else.

    • "which can be used to place a new order for the subscription at the same price of $34.27 if you wish to do so"

I'd say you could if you wanted to.

  • Just received an email stating that they made a mistake and they are giving us a voucher for $14.70 to cover the difference if we want to purchase a subscription.

    • same here, they must have plenty of free time if they prefer cancelling all orders, emailing gift cards and processing the orders again :)

  • Wait so:

1)- I paid for two orders by JBHIFI voucher, how do I get my money back?
2)- Has anyone received the $14 vouchers yet?
3)- If we ordered more than once will we only get one $14 voucher? Eh?

    • +1

      1) Pass
      2) Yes (Well a reference code)
      3) "Please note that if you have placed multiple orders you will only be entitled to the one gift card valued at $14.70."

    • +1

Just checked the balance of the gift card I paid with. It's back up to what it was originally. Weird. Usually they just send out another voucher same value.

      • Ah nice! Ill check too. So for 2)- is that the JB number in the email? Or does the new voucher come in a separate email?

        • It'll be a new voucher. Everyone's getting the same code thing in the email. Unless it's just a generic coupon code..

      • How do you check balance its making me fill out a contact form?

        • I had an e-giftcard emailed to me, and I'm able to open the giftcard in a link. The link gives the card value "as of xxx date"

    • I'd like to know this too if we payed with a jbhifi voucher some said we might get a new voucher back as they can't put refund money back into old voucher

      • You can't check voucher balances out yourself on the site anymore, they took it off a while ago. Not sure how the guy above us did it. I tried to regenerate the digital voucher I had (which actually does seem to adjust itself to the correct value every time I had used it prior) but it's showing as having $0.00 currently (so the value has not been reloaded). And yeah, no new $14 voucher received here yet.

        • I called 1300 554 268 gift card balance line my funds have been taking out for purchase not happy they better issue me with a new gift card

        • +2

Yeah, that's what I did. Pretty much regen the voucher from the link. Just checked the value by going through checkout process and putting in the GC number/pin then not confirming payment. It has full value it had before.

        • +2

Can someone say double-up lol! Maybe you'll be lucky and get both.

        • @0lllllll0: weird wonder why they charged my egiftcard oh has a value of 15 something after $34.27 had $50 to start with

  • So the gift card voucher in the email - is that the code starting with JBAU ? Or do we actually have to wait for a physical gift card to be delivered ?

    • You'll receive an email with the code and PIN. The JBAU is just a reference #.

      • The voucher will be emailed in 2-3 hours, that's what they have told me in their last email

  • My reply is different than everyone above and I only ordered one last night:

This email is to notify you that your online order has not passed our order verification stage and in accordance with section 6 of our terms and conditions (refer clause 6.9), your order has now been cancelled.

Factors that may influence this decision can include, but are not limited to: country of origin (IP Address), Credit Card country, email domain, incorrectly completed name/address fields, or where you have requested a cancellation of your online order before it was confirmed.

Please be advised that no payment was requested for this order however a pre-authorisation may have been taken by your bank or financial institution. If this has been taken, the funds will be released within 2-5 business days.

We do apologise for any inconvenience caused to you here and if you require more information regarding this online order, please contact [email protected]

    Kind regards,
    JB Hi-Fi Customer Support Team

    • +1

You will be receiving an automated email from our Verification system advising you that that your order has been cancelled due to our terms and conditions, please ignore this.

      • No further email other than the one above, however they sent me 2 egift cards instead of one, what an error!

  • +2

All in all a very nice response from jb, they didn't have to do anything for us, it was fairly obvious it was an error.

Now will I buy ps plus with the voucher or something else, oh first world problems
