Since this camera has been very popular in the past I've asked GeekBuying for another deal on it at a good price.

Like many Xiaomi products this camera offers high quality video for a low price. It has 1080p FHD resolution, night vision, 8x zoom, two-way audio, motion/sound detection and a magnetic mount. It uses micro USB for power and can be used with a power bank. The camera can be controlled using the Mi Home app and the content can be stored locally on a Micro SD card. It's also possible to achieve 180° view by linking two cameras together.

    • that might just be the reawson i buy this.

hate OEM software. this 3rd party always way better.

  • anyone knows is this camera RTSP? OR is it Onvif? thanks.

    • Neither, have to run the "hack" linked above to get RTSP

Be very careful about applying the XiaoFang hack to v3 of this camera!! I've bricked 2 after
installing the hack on cameras that have the new firmware. The yellow status light just stays on
and it is unresponsive to the RESET button and it does not connect to WiFi.

    https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks/issues/17

IMO this camera is awesome if you can get it to produce an RSTP feed, but it it has limited usefulness
if you need to connect to the Xiaomi app use it.

    • Did you try the fix at the bottom of that issue?

      • Yep and nothing happened. Formatted the card using the Fanghacks v0.2.0 img file and renamed the fang_hacks_rescue.cfg removing the .tmpl.
Popped the card into the camera, and tried pulling the power cable out a few times to "power cycle to reboot cam".

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

    • Which firmware version were they on? Mine is running fine on 3.0.3.56 with the newer MAC 34 address.

      • Did you apply the Xiaofang v0.2.0 hack?

The only camera I got the hack to work on have the MAC 28 address. The two bricks have the newer MAC 34 address.

    • Be very careful about applying the XiaoFang hack to v3 of this camera! I've bricked 2

Are there any cameras you can recommended instead?

      I'm using Zoneminder.

    • How can you tell if it's a version 3 camera?

Still waiting for my order from last deal…

    • Free shipping can take up to 30 business days. What's your order number? I can check on it.

    • Same here my order is 4005810

    • i just got my order from the last deal, did take pretty long.

  • Is this unit Chinese?
The original version I have to install the Chinese iOS app to connect to it.

    • It'll work with the English app available on the app store.

  • Can I run this via home wifi but view the stream on my iPhone via a 3G/4G connection? Happy to use the Mi App or the hack but want external streaming

    • Yes that's what it made for and you don't need to use any hack for it. Just connect the camera with your home wifi and stream the video on your phone by using Mi App on 3g/4g anywhere in the world….

  • I bought this before and haven't set it up yet. It actually has two way audio? As in it has a speaker so that you can use the app to speak into your phone's mic and it'll relay it to the camera's speaker? It's basically a webcam?

It does as in the description

Two-way audio, you can talk to your family when you are not at home

      • Just set it up then and it works, albeit a little lagged and soft ><

is it possible to record to nas?
which would be better this or mijia?

    • Xiaomi mijia 1080P Smart IP Camera

      • Can you apply the hack to this one?

  • I bought one from last deal and getting timeout error while connecting to the WiFi network.
Does any one know how to fix it?
And I couldn't find the app in App store (IOS) and so I tried on Android

  • For what reasons, it cant be used in US or Japan?

    • Probably conformance to those countries local spectrum rules for WiFi. The national rules around WiFi type public spectrum usage often differ around which channels may be used and what transmission powerer levels are allowed. In some countries meeting the rules is not sufficient, the device must also be certified by the government body.

e.g. Using imported mobile devices may be illegal - Japan Times

  • For you guys that have hacked the camera how do you access the stream? I see there's a few active x controls that allow browser access, how do these go?

  • What are people using this camera for?

    Monitoring baby's room?
Checking who is at the front door?

    • mine will be front door cam/package cam

I'm getting one to keep an eye on my wife when I'm at work.

  • Is this any good as baby monitor?

    • Yes. Been using it as baby monitor for couple of months now. Very happy with factory firmware. Works awlessly- as expected the video on phone has about 3-4 sec lag.

      • Do you set the motion sensor alert or just leave the video stream open on your phone? Curious - I use one just to check on one kid, but haven't tried to use it as a full baby monitor.

        • I use one as a secondary baby monitor and have turned off the motion sensor. With the limited English on the app I couldn't stop it recording video every time it detected motion. I had heaps of annoying videos stored that I didn't care about.

I just use it now to check on my toddler moving around. We have a normal baby monitor and just use this to keep an eye on him while he transitions to a "big boy bed". The wide angle camera/excellent night vision is perfect for this as the baby monitor has very average night vision and no wide angle at all.

        • I just keep the phone on whole night. The noise filter on the app is amazing so I don't hear any static etc. All I hear is baby crying if she does. I usually put phone upside down so the light illuminating whole room in the dark is not a problem.

Hi All, I'm thinking of using something like this for my store's security instead of a wired Swann or similar system. Is this a practical solution or am I better using the wired system? I'd need a power bank per camera (need 4 in total). Does anyone know how long the unit will run on a certain sized power bank and does it tell you when it's out of battery? Once the micro SD card is full, will it start recording over the oldest video footage?

  • Dont mean to hijack this thread but, I've just bought a few of these cameras, and have them running OK through official iOS app, which is functional but hardly a killer app since much of it is in Chinese.

But what I really wanted to ask, is anyone using 2 cameras to get a 180-degree video image. There is a couple of demos here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmyjekO5SDU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwJiGtXtz6A . But it appears they are using the Android app, which has some added 'camera grouping' features that I cant find on the iOS version. I contacted Xiaomi support, and their response was 'since we don't sell this product in your country, you need to go back to your retailer for support'. um, ok great customer support.

I got mine but I'm really lost on how to set it up. can someone please help me

  • I have 5 of these, they are really good cameras if you want it just for monitoring what is happening, I use it for my business to make sure staff are working :P
Does anyone know if there is a way to save the video onto a hard instead of the micro sd card? the micro sd card saves about a weeks worth of video and audio. Would be the perfect security camera if it could automatically upload the data into an hdd.
