GUANQIN Watch, Miyota (Citizen) Quartz, 40mm S/Steel, Sapphire, Small Second, Gen Leather US $6.96/AU $9.23 Del @ GearBest

150

GUANQIN are a fairly large Chinese watch making company. They make affordable watches plus some more expensive models in the $100 range. Their build is decent for the price. This China cheapie is certainly no automatic grail piece, but a decent design and specification for the low price considering the Japanese movement, sapphire crystal, small seconds and stainless steel compared to many watches in this price range which are plated. The caseback is snap-on, so changing a battery is simple when the time comes. Let's not get too bogged down in the auto vs quartz debate, since it's only $20.

Three dial/case colours are available. Finished in stainless steel and gold

Imported Japanese quartz movement - Miyota (made by Citizen)
Classical round dial and Arabic numerals scales
Small seconds at 6 o'clock
Date at 3 o'clock
Durable genuine leather band and pin buckle
30M water resistance
Sapphire crystal
Luminous hands
40mm diameter
10mm thick
stainless steel
40mm should fit most wrist over 6.5 inches.
The seller is GearBest, so obviously you won't be getting it in a week.

Last time I posted it was AU $20.70

Would love to hear from the Gearbest Rep to confirm if it's actually sapphire and a real leather strap?

    • +4

Probably sapphire coated and rat leather strap. But for a half decent non-DW design watch with a Miyota movement, I bought a couple as gifts. I will report in in 4-6 weeks.

      From a WUS user.

"Got two of the Guanqin $15 deals posted by Houston. Very solid deal and nice way to test-drive a bauhaus style. *Thanks to Houston for posting the deal. The sapphire xtal (or at least coated) is real. The blue dial is actually a purple. The bands are a very high quality of soft rubberized long-lasting 100% gunuine authentic #1 exotic plether. Untouchable at $15."

This from a guy with 1,480 posts.

      • So not rat leather strap then? That part put me off from even checking this out initially.

        • +1

It was a joke. Could be dog leather.

        • @ilikeit: Haha! Even better. :)

        • @ilikeit:that could be likely.

Most fake handbags are made from dogs. Videos show some cruel bastards skinning them alive and then processing the meat for food.

        • @Suspect420:

… skinning them alive and then processing the meat for food.

As long as that happens far away and out of sight, all's good - business as usual, move along.

        • @Suspect420:

A lot of those PETA-released videos are fake.

Even if you assume the people doing the work have no soul, it would be unnecessarily dangerous, expensive and inefficient to skin an animal alive. Destroying an animal's brain with a captive bolt gun before cutting the carotid artery with a knife is quick and easy. It makes the skinning process quicker, and less risky for the leather and the person doing the skinning. It also makes it easy to bleed the animal if you're going to process the meat for consumption. It's just good business.

Given PETA's questionable ethics (they've been caught kidnapping people's pets out of their front yards and taking them to animal shelters that euthanize them, stalking and harassing hard working scientists whose medical research projects rely on animal models for testing etc.) I wouldn't be surprised if they paid someone to skin an animal alive and filmed them, justifying it as being "for the greater good".

        • @simulacrum:

I wouldn't be surprised if they paid someone to skin an animal alive and filed them …

I wouldn't be "surprised" if you were a thief, but, I'd need evidence to justify that slander.

        • @AlexF:

Sure if I wanted to make an allegation in court or publish one in a syndicated newspaper or scientific journal, I would be expected to present evidence of the party having committed the specific act of which I accuse them. In my day-to-day life, however, I make fairly quick judgments about people's character or organizations' ethics based on their known prior actions. In that sense it "wouldn't surprise me" if a person or organisation that has demonstrated loose ethics in one context, might do so in a different context.

If I had observed someone being impatient or cruel with their pets, I might not let that person babysit my kids. .. if a friend was considering having that person babysit their kids, I might even caution them and tell them about the behavior I had seen - even though I'd never known that person to have mistreated a child. I wouldn't publish a newspaper article accusing them of child abuse - that would require evidence.

Perhaps you don't make any conclusions about people's character. Maybe in your daily dealings you don't speculate about people's or organisations' capacities for shenanigans and only expect them to engage in the specific type of misconduct in which they have engaged in the past.. If so, I can only admire you for your thoroughness.

        • @AlexF: I hate it when they kill animals while they are still alive

        • @simulacrum:

I make fairly quick judgments about people's character…

You must be popular at parties.

China has a pretty atrocious history of animal cruelty - it just seems to be a cultural thing. Dogs get a lot of the press, but it's much broader than that. I personally hate all animals, especially humans that make quick judgments about a persons character.

        • @AngryChicken:

I personally hate all animals, especially humans that make quick judgments about a persons character.

Haha I know what you mean.. especially when they take a paragraph of text and instead of reading the entire thing for meaning, pick out a fragment of a sentences out of context.

What I actually said was "I make fairly quick judgments about people's character or organizations' ethics based on their known prior actions".. then I gave an example of precisely what I meant.

So yes, I often have limited time to determine whether I trust people or not, and to what extent I trust them. Generally I have some concept of what I imagine a particular person's ethics based on their prior actions.. I thought this was fairly standard but maybe it's an unusual approach on my part.

China has a pretty atrocious history of animal cruelty - it just seems to be a cultural thing. Dogs get a lot of the press, but it's much broader than that.

Eating dogs is a cultural thing.. though I don't necessarily see it as more innately cruel than eating any other animal. I don't particularly think animal cruelty its a cultural thing - I think its just a case of profit-making entities cutting corners whenever they can get away with it to maximise profits (it just so happens that in developing countries you can get away with a lot more). What doesn't make sense to me is that a company would make a business decision to do something in a more expensive and less efficient way that actually decreased their profits, just for the sake of being cruel.

        • @simulacrum:

I … eating dogs … whenever … can get away with it.

Sure, i'm cool with that. Eat all the dogs you like. I love Chinese traditions.

        • @AngryChicken: jesus that hit and run was brutal!

    • Yes, I want to believe it, but …

Looks very similar to the Smkei 9083 that I got from a previous deal, just with different markers/numerals

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SKMEI-9083-Mens-Leisure-Quartz-Wr…

    • +2

Could be the same factory. Many Chinese watches are rebadged with a different dial, although often there are differences. e.g. lume, movement, overall finish, dial, applied vs painted markers. An example is Naviforce and Infantry watches. This one uses a Miyota (Citizen movement).

    Black/Golden and Silver/Black left.

  • For slightly more ($10.23) the blue/white version here is in stock … http://www.gearbest.com/men-s-watches/pp_428594.html

  • Went to buy, no stock :/

  • I watched on youtube, these watch has 35 seconds shift time within 48 hours …which is awesome!
    Bought one to test

    • +1

      For a quartz? That's shocking.

I am assuming these watched are battery powered quartz not automatic?

      • Quartz of course.

    • Lmao

      Thats awesome

    • Just for update.

      Watch arrived today, not bad

  • +1

Would be too embarassing to wear this watch with the name alone.

    • So I guess you wouldn't wear a Deerfun or Dom?

      • Or maybe a Kevin watch

    • Are you sure the G is silent?

  • +2

Thanks, will check if you're interested next time before posting a watch. But seriously, I'm interested to see what $9.23 gets me and I'll probably palm it off to one of my non-watch snob mates as I prefer divers.

    • +3

It's a lot of watch for under $10. Please keep posting deals.

    • Quartz tech is very common these days, chinese is catching up.

      • The problem with Chinese watches and micro-brands, in general, is that unless someone guinea pigs there is no way to know what you really get. Also, the Chinese are very prone to exaggerating specs and the over the top photoshopped photos.

        • +1

Yup, only one way to find out then ha ha …..

I bought a Guanqin watch a few months ago and really like it. Great value for money!

    • Which one, do you have a link please?

      • Yep, here:
        https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Mens-Watches-Top-Br…

White face with copper colour metal. I think the white face with silver looks better, but I wanted something that looks a bit different.

        • It looks like it's come out of the same factory as the Megir M2011 US$9.82 (~AU$13.35)

        • Can you please confirm whether the case back says sapphire crystal?

        • Haha indeed it does! I bought 4 watches from AliExpress and it's my favourite.

          @PJC:

I'll check when I get home.

        • @j4ck: Thank you.

          @PJC:

The back doesn't say anything about Sapphire! Liars!

@j4ck: As I feared, but thanks for checking.

  • Here is a good mini review by Mike_1 on Watchuseek, 20 Dollars or Less.

    • +1

Still waiting on mine. For $9 I'm not expecting much.

    • Did you pick up any bargains on eBay with the codes? I grabbed an SRP775 Turtle. If it fits, something else will have to go. Hopefully, it is different enough to the SKX, apart from colours, as I'm pretty attached to it now.

      • No I'm trying to cut down, haha.

Yeah it's a bit bigger than the SKX. How much did you pay? This old deal post was a good price at $285.00.

I would never sell my SKX007 either, it's with me for life.

        • +1

$287 from Creation - includes bracelet. Should have bitten a few days ago since they had the J version for a few dollars more. And if the SKX movement ever dies - just replace it with a cheap Invicta one for hacking.

Here is another brand, same same but different =

Bei nuo - approx AU$7.16 shipped
Thanks to Bughead on Watchuseek, $20 dollars or less.

That thread is great. The AE one is a bit of fun too.
