    Great, thanks OP!

I love Circus Oz, and they are a truly enduring national icon; not to mention absolute world pioneers re getting animals out of circuses, which they were insisting on way back in the very early 1980s! Absolute trail-blazers in this respect. I first saw them in 1981 (or was it 1982?), when they set up in Princes Park in Carlton (VIC) and invited my entire class at Princes Hill Primary School in North Carlton to come and see their show, FOR FREE. One of the younger members of their crew (going by the name of 'Will' at that time, if I recall correctly) temporarily enrolled at Prinny-Hill Primary during their performances at Princes Park, but regardless of that, it was a truly charitable gesture inviting the entire class to come and see the show for no charge at all. Back then North Carlton was nothing like it is today, and ALL of the kids living in a huge 'commish-housing' sky-rise directly across the road from the school (that commish-housing has long since been demolished) attended the school. To be sure, NONE of these kids would have ever seen the circus (which was truly awesome), if they had not been invited to attend for free/with Prinny Hill taking responsibility for getting them there and back. I have no doubt that it was one of the most fun things many of them were ever treated to in early childhood. It certainly was for me.

Re the current deal, the join-up and booking processes were easy. I booked a double-pass for me and my young son to see the show. If it 'works' for $10 I'll be amazed, and if it doesn't I'll just cough up the full price, because I have a very soft spot for Circus Oz. Curiously, My wife and I paid almost $100 each to see a 'Cirque de Soleil' show a couple of years ago, and it was, frankly, pretty shite. Nothing like what is seen on TV re their shows. It consisted of 60% 'artistic' (read 'wanky'/extremely repetitive) installation-type performances (completely un-entertaining/made many children in the audience cry and caused numerous groups to simply up and leave), delivered in a tent that was very cold (this evidently caused numerous older members of the audience to leave before the 'show' was even half over), about 30% standard-type stuff you might expect from a street busker/performer, and only 10% of the show was actually entertaining/unique circus-type material. This was the 'OVA' production, which I can only assume was the worst thing that CDS has ever produced. Seriously. If you are ever considering fawking out the small fortune required to secure 'Cirque de Soleil' tickets, I strongly suggest only doing so if you have some indication from someone you trust/a review that the show will actually be any good.

Back to the point though, if this deal actually works I recommend it to anyone. Circus Oz is truly awesome, and I can almost guarantee that your kids will find it way more entertaining than 'Cirque de Soleil'-type shows…

  • I went to previous circus oz performance using tix from onthehouse, and some other shows at Arts Centre Melbourne. Trust me it's legit just like promotix.

    • Thanks for the information.

  • Says: sold out

  • Managed to buy one ticket for the 20th, then it says sold out. Hmmm don't fancy going alone, guess I'll have to pay full price for another ticket, unless anyone on here has one they would like to sell?

  • How does onthehouse work?

    Damn missed out :(

    • It seems to be available again, try now.

    Hi Mel,
It is Irena, director of ON THE HOUSE.

I would like to explain a few things about our service. ON THE HOUSE does not sell tickets to Circus Oz events. ON THE HOUSE received a handful of promotional tickets to the latest Circus Oz production. These tickets are passed onto our members for free. Where a member is a bronze member, they pay to use our site any time they take up an offer. This is an administration fee of $10.

For any enquiries, please direct them to myself - [email protected]

Mel - it is important to realise that these tickets are not being sold through our service.

    Thank you,
    Irena
