    No good?

Edit: I'm not thick too, I only have one in my cart =P

    • worked for me.

  • +2

Can someone explain the economics of this for me please?

    • -3

It probably costs them about this. They flog them off because they're bored or something, and people use/remember gearbest.

    • +4

It's a loss leader. They're happy to lose money just to get you onto the web site. I wouldn't take a whizz for 2c, and neither would anyone in China either.

      • +2

Thanks. I assume having a token few cents is to get your payment details registered?

        • +2

And you are now aware of their site and how their ordering process works. Next time you need a gadget you are more likely to use a site you know.

    • Also, they ask you to log in via Facebook or Google + accounts, so they will have your contact deets. Expect to be getting a shedload of junk emails in the next little while.
Just not worth the hassle, IMO

    • +3

Well the economics are, this is why it costs us $18 to send a package from Brisbane to Sydney, as Australia Post are busy delivering all these $0.03 packages for free.

    thanks

Great price (duh!) but do note that these can't even handle the charging current from my 0.7A charger to my S8 (have two of these). The Xiaomi adapters have no issues with fast charging. The slowed charging could help slow battery wear I guess, if I had to take something positive from this.

    • Thanks, was about to buy for charging. (Knowing it would be slow at best but not underrated)

  • Gearbest is no longer on cashrewards, or so it seems..

    • +4

Just for this event. Obviously they're not going to pay commission on these sales, so I've disabled the store. Will be up again as soon as this is over.

      • Ahh, ok..

      • Curiously TA, how do you get hot-word notifications so fast? Have they setup a private feed that can be pinged every minute for you or is there a function I'm missing or..?

        • +5

You don't get to 2886 deal posts by giving away your secrets ;)

        • That and I believe he works at Cashrewards ;)

      • Damn it, I was looking forward to my 0.072 cent cashback. No deal for me.

  • Anyone comment on the last time they actually received anything from gearbest? My last two orders never came and had to do PayPal dispute to get my money back.

    • Funny you say that, though I don't at all think they aren't sending out orders, been waiting nearly 2months now for my previous one.

      • Probably ended up in your neighbour's mailbox.

    • In a dozen < $10 items, have never had a single one not arrive.

    • Got a cheap laptop from them last month, and pretty fast too. Was a little worried as it's the priciest purchase I've made on there and their mixed track record, but all good.

    • I live in Sydney suburbs. Got all of mine. Lucky I guess

    • Every order I've made with has arrived

  • +1

    thanks bought one

  • I have one from the last time it was offered but havent used it. After reading about dodgy cables and adaptors without the 56k ohm resistor frying phones, i wouldnt use one of these without knowing for sure. My 2x blitzwolf ones for $1 ea may be 300% more expensive but im not going to risk a $800 phone on a cheap plug. Im assuming these dont have the resistor and not Benson Leung approved? For throwaway usb type c devices or a improv fidget spinner Im sure this cheap plug would be fine

    • +6

Cracked mine open and there is a resistor (56k according to my multimeter).

  • Doesn't seem to be working for me. Ah well…

    • Just used it, worked ok for me..

  • So u can only buy one?

  • was in the middle of changing from paypal to a different credit card.
    code expired. :(

    • Still working at time of this response.

      • Saw this on my phone at work. Drove home. On laptop. Code's expired : (

  • Buy now think later!

  • +6

This does have a 56K ohm resistor inside. Just cracked mine open and tested with a multimeter.

    • +1

Please enlighten me. What does it mean? Thank you.

      • +3

Put very simply, it prevents the phone from drawing more power (current more specifically) than the charger can handle, which can potentially cause damage to the charger.

        EDIT: Good explanation here.

    • +3
      • Oooo, that makes it enticing to use mine. How did you manage to pry the casing open? Would like to test mine and make sure its consistent throughout batches

        • Just gave the casing a few knocks with the bottom of an aerosol can and pried it open through a crack :P.

    • +1

That would explain why you don't get more than 500mA. That's what that resistor signals as the maximum capacity of the power source.

      What a messy situation.

      • Thanks, you're right! Should have done some proper research, very messy indeed.

  • +2

Not working for me as well. Code goes in, price doesn't change, just left with this: "Code for single unit price only; VIP Price, Special Offer or Group Deal all exempt."

  • Well done again TA. The only problem here, is the last 2 times I tried ordering from GearBest, nothing ever arrived…

    • In all honesty, I've always received everything I've ordered from them. Has at times taken up to 2 months, but got them in the end. Maybe I've just been lucky :)

  • Not working for me :( invalid code

  • Code expired.. not working with my existing account..!

  • Thanks tighty! got one. :)

  • Sorry guys, all gone. "The Code you entered has expired"

  • Missed out :(

Surely nobody tried cashrewards with this one?

      • +1

Ah, thanks, missed those comments. It wasn't a serious question though :)

  • coDe doesn't work!

  • +1

    Thanks TA, got one…

  • OZB = OzBargain
    TA=TightArse

    TightArse, you are a legend!

  • damn missed out again >.<

  • Got this but still waiting for a deal on usb type-C cable tho.

  • Most of these are very tight. Your MicroUSB device will get stuck and take a lot of force to separate from the adapter, eventually damaging it.

Even the Xiaomi ones are tight.

The only one I've had that wasn't tight is the one that came with my Samsung Galaxy S8.

    • +1

Well if it's a deal by tightarse it better be tight (.)

  • Yeah mine from last sale gets hot & only works intermittently now. Picked up another cable with last sale.
