This is a pretty good deal for those looking for a great NAS drive with high capacity.
These retail in Australia around $650 so there is a decent saving there. Even with current eBay 10% coupon, cheapest is $597.60 from Computer Alliance.

Lowest price according to CamelCamelCamel was $344 + shipping around a month ago, this is still a very good price!

Doesn't look like there is a limit to how many you can purchase, example pricing of multiple drives including delivery to Victoria:

1 drive - USD $372.11 (~$513.42)
2 drives - USD $739.23 (~$1,019.96)
3 drives - USD $1,216.99 (~$1,679.15)
4 drives - USD $1,620.83 (~$2,236.35)

  • The 16TB externals are maybe cheaper if you wanted two 8TB drives - usually $499 US plus postage. I didn't realise reds could be 7200rpm though so these may be a different drive?

  • I see that this post is for red Pro and not red. As far as I know all the external ones have red.

Anyone can tell in 2 lines what is the difference in real world for someone who is going to use it in nas for streaming

Good price. Employee pricing for this model is US $137. I've been going back and fourth for months now thinking of upgrading my current setup, it'll just be a pain if something goes wrong and have to send back to US for warranty purposes. Currently running (5) WD40EFRX on my Synology DS1515+ for over a year now.

  • "Doesn't look like there is a limit to how many you can purchase, …"

If you get two or more then aren't you possibly going to get hit with GST and Customs charges?

    • Amazon has decided to play nice with Australian government which means they will collect the GST from you upfront. But depending on how much shipping cost, it may be cost effective to seperate both shipments.

      • Didn't realise that the overseas GST collection had started yet. Are you sure?

        • Amazon started to collect "Import Fees Deposit" on values greater than $1000. There has been times where I have split shipments to avoid the import fees. I believe Newegg also do the same thing.

I just tried on Amazon's website, and 2 drives won't trigger the import fees deposit. However 3 drives will.

  • Everyone is happy with RED drives. My luck says otherwise.

I have 2x4TB RED RAID (refurbished from my WD My Book Duo 2x4TB) are running in my Qnap
1x5TB Red standalone was running in my Qnap
    2 x 4TB Red new

the 5TB one died last week (2-year-old). But, since it was taken out from a WD USB3 drive, I cannot claim any warranty.
Out of the 2x4TB new RED drives, one of them was DOA. PLE swapped it, no question asked.

    • I have a differing experience. I have never had any issues with WD Drives and I can say that i've been through hundreds.

Seagate however, are the worst I have used. Highest failure rates.

    • Have you tried not using them for caber toss?

      • LOL

    • One way to say it, taking out of the enclosure will give you warranty trouble. Unless the price or your luck is good enough to let you ignore that.

Getting bare drives locally is still the best option as user can swap or warranty claim them directly without incurring postage.

    • I had two WD30EFRX-68EUZN0 fail on me, so did a mate experience the same thing (different stores), within months of each other. I suspect a bad batch got out. The replacement ones have been fine, but waiting for them to come out of warranty…
