So the aluminium is lighter than the carbon, very nice

    • That's why I went for the aluminum. $200 in spare change is really a no brainer. This Boardman uses a different alloy, which is comparable to ALUXX SL or CAAD10 (tin hat on).

    • Wonder how many people just go for carbon purely because it's made from carbon?

      • There are other differences, carbon flexes a bit which is nice.

I'm more concerned about the carbon fibre failing. The bike nerds quickly dismiss that and remind you that aeroplanes are made out of it, however a quick search indicates an enormous number of recalls related to carbon bikes.

      • I have one of each, a carbon Trek Madone and an Aluminium Giant Defy. The Trek is much newer and cost a lot more so should be a better bike….and it is by a long way! The Giant is OK and if I am commuting or going somewhere I am worried about I take it but for those early mornings in the hills or Sunday cruises to a coffee shop somewhere my Carbon trek is awesome. I did have a Trek Domane but had a crash and cracked the frame, something that wouldnt have happened if the frame was aluminium. But the madone is something else, smooth and fast. More comfortable and much faster than my Giant and my Strava data for segments where I've ridden both bikes backs me up on the results. There might be a Cannondale CAAD or something out there that is interesting but unless they start selling graphene bikes soon, my next bike will be carbon fibre.

        • Intersting. All strong riders in my bunch ride not carbon but metal bikes.

          My fast bike is Scandium.

        • @Climber: A couple of the strong riders in my bunch have steel bikes that they bring along for something different, 1 guy has a custom made frame he bought measured to fit him in the 1980's with the very 1st generation Dura Ace grouppo, another has a classic steel Colnago hand painted in the 70's with all original gear, beautiful bike but by comparison, heavy, slow and with way less gears for the hills. A couple of guys have titanium bikes that they sometimes ride and there are a few with aluminium 2nd bikes, training bikes or winter bikes with disc brakes and mudguards but everyone I know has a carbon 1st bike! I understand the 'train heavy race light' theory but as I dont race much these days, life's too short and I want to enjoy every minute on my bike I just ride the best bike I can afford, if I end up riding a racing bike as overkill into the dirt when I should be training on an old clunker I dont care. I went to a bunch ride recently where an A grade sponsored rider turned up on something that looked like he dragged it off a Hard Rubbish collection on the way to the ride. His emaciated torso and massive legs (and the fact we all knew him) gave him away. Regardless of the bike he smashed us all going up the hills regardless. I bet he doesnt turn up to A Grade crits on his training bike though (he'll be riding whatever his team sponsors tell him to ride).

@2ndeffort: Hehe, anyway now I have one Scandium, one XCr, and this Boardman team road! The very minimum Rule #12 accomplished -
          http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#12

  • This is 10 speed - it's been 11 speed for about 3-4 years I think.

Personally, I am fine with 10 speed. Very tempting price!

    • This is the 2014 model. My current ride is 10sp so getting another 10sp is bonus.

    • Yes, but cheaper to upgrade parts to 105/ultegra

      • Well the fact is I can ride my 9spd Ultegra bike like my 11spd Chorus bike.

In my bunch 10spd Campy guy is the strongest.

No real differences and I wouldn't buy 11spd groupset for this bike.

        • But only one groupset is a work of art :)

  • Got excited, until I saw the available sizing options :'(

    • Boardman runs large, I got a small and it's 54.5 TT

      • Are there any geometry and size table? I may get one to use mostly for commuting. Thx!

        (Never mind found one. Thx)

        • I used this
I don't believe geometry has changed between 2014 and 2016, although in 2016 they discontinued XS XXS.

          @stuntman:

Thanks mate! I pulled the trigger with code chopchop - $604, sweet!

  • Any size guide? What size for a 5ft 5 short person?

    • I'm 5'9 and the XS is a tad small, the S a tad big.
Read more here. This bike is either Air, or SLR Endurance.

  • Nice.. but hydraulic disc brakes belong on road bikes too. Perhaps with just 160 mm rotors.

    • This bike has a 10 spd groupset, I dont even know if they make 10 speed brake/shifter levers for hydraulic disc brakes. The current 105 level hydraulic shifters are for 11 speed. There might be a solution, I just dont know. You could convert it to 11 speed but that would probably wipe out any cost savings you make when you buy the replacement shift kit for 11 speed.

    • Not really worth trying to do a conversion but if you did you'd need to get forks with a mount for the caliper. I don't think you can retro fit a mount on the frame though disc brakes only on the front would be better than nothing

    • The industry haven't decided the standard yet. Waiting is a wise move, I believe.

  • Any pedals or tools included?

    • +1

Pedals aren't usually included because most people want to byo.
I recommend Speedplay Aero pedals if you want to go fast
      http://www.bikeradar.com/au/road/gear/category/components/pe…

      • Love my Speedplays!

      • Surprised you'd reco Speedplays on OzBargain!

        • Can reco anything on OzBargain if you can find it at a great price! I love the float for my dodgy knees and being able to clip in on either side. If anybody can find me a Porsche 911 for $20K it would be the greatest bargain of the Millenium

        • +1

I was of course being sarcastic re the Speedplay Aero pedals.
Pedals for the cyclist that buys Monster Cables for their sound system.
Though good double sided pedals are a good thing there's something wrong psychologically if you pay > $100 for pedals

  • Great price for the aluminium bike

    • +1

$603 delivered with CHOPCHOP is super tempting!

      • +1

Too tempting. RIP my wallet. Hold my (recently deceased [aka earlier today]) MTB, I'm going down the rabbit hole!

  • Just got mine, and I'm somewhat disappointed to get R500 wheels. These are not as described by Amart website(RS20), nor the eBay listing CXP22. Should I ask for a return or partial refund?

    • Hi, I'm checking mine when I get home bur I'm just new to cycling? How bad are the r500 compared to the advertised ones and do you plan on asking for a return? Cheers man
