110

G'day Folks,

Obligatory be kind this is my first post statement.

I was searching for some headphones to replace my Sennheiser PC363D headphones since they developed a rattle. I found this cracker of a deal on the Sennheiser HD599 headphones which normally go for around $330-350 give or take. Coupled with free express shipping and Zippay (if your into that sort of thing) these are a steal at $248. Definitely add these to your collection of Ozbargain headphones! Happy listening!

  • Apparently these are more or less the same as the 598/598SE (open back) which you have been able to get in the past for ~$140-$150ish. Might have trouble finding stock now though. Great set of cans, really like mine.

    • They are similar, I think the difference is the factory EQ although there could be more…

  • Similar price range as the Phillip X2.
    Decisions!

    • It's 50 ohms vs 32 if that makes a difference.

  • Just being honest with what I have on hand right now, try save the extra $300 and get the ie800 earphones, I'm in love with mine and its imo better than the HD800.
Small, portable and easy to drive on any piece of hardware without an amp, the HD598's were my first entry level headphones too but it eventually snapped cause of the wooden headband in 2ish yrs and I havnt bothered to fix/replace it ever since.
Earcups also sit on your ears too so you'll need to wipe/scrape off the white powdery stains daily and I remember it being hot sweaty during the summer.

Up to you's on incremental upgrade or grab the very best and dont look back.

    • so you'll need to wipe/scrape off the white powdery stains daily

Are you talking about flaky skin?

      • ya probably wont see it after use but alot more noticeable after it dries and scrub it abit,.

    • Bit of a difference in price point and style. For use with my computer these suit just fine. I can see your point of view though if I was looking for something to use outside the house.

      • Good luck trying to take the ie800s outside the house. Constantly falling out of ear as the cable stiffens up along with the fact that they have proprietary tips. Sound is absolutely fantastic but has questionable properties.

      • im using the ie800's right now on my pc, with my T1 and HD800s sitting right next to me…
It's a really great earphone, HD800 separations too far apart and always end up turning it louder than necessary to hear certain instruments of a song and then suffer from it afterwards when it gets suddenly gets loud.

The HD599 is an indoor over ears but so is the ie800.

  • Does this replace the 598? It costs significantly more but looks like one. What's new?
