I'm still waiting for the right driving school bargain.

    Sharp deal

    Never liked Gillette anyway

That was the rrp two years ago

Never heard of this laptop lol, but can get $15 off your order for also signing up to newsletter.

  • Just bought my Alienware, missed it

    • Alienware is just as good.

      • You give up some portability but Dell's support is light years ahead of razer and you have better future expandability.

  • +1

Maybe update to 1534.95 with newsletter sign up. Also any idea on stock levels?

2015 RRP 3899 I'm guessing now it's mid 2017 considering the last gen GFX would equate to around $2000 making it still a bargain but not a huge deal.

    • The updated models are around $2500. So these would be around $1800?

  • +8

    2015 model in 2017 tho ;/

    • +23

9XXM to 10XX is probably one of the biggest jumps in power for mobile GPUs ever as well.

      • +7

precisely the reason this deal doesn't justify for a worthy price

        • +4

Not to mention the efficiency gains for the mobile chip by Intel, going from 22nm to 14nm.

That GTX 970M is only as fast as a GTX 1050Ti. Or the GTX 960. So only around GTX 770. Or the GTX 680. When compared to Team Red/AMD around an Under-Clocked RX470. Or a R9 380. So only like a R 280X. Practically the Radeon HD7970.

Still faster than Intel's Iris Pro internalGPU, or even something beastly from ARM.

  • Can you swap out the 256GB M.2 drive? Is there 2x M.2 slots?
Or the 512GB version is AU$1,699.95

  • You could probably do better if you are looking at only gaming an exclusive gaming laptop as the 970M is a little dated, however you won't get the same quality screen and build quality.

  • I've been wanting a stealth for a while, but this is tempting, very very tempting.

    • +12

Still beats all the (0) deals you have posted in your 2 years as a member

      • +2

        Oh snap!

  • +2

Dated hardware for top dollar… Why not just go with a Metabox?

    https://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-…
$1519 without the QHD screen (just remove the HDD for -$60)

    • +1

Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M with 2GB

      has a worse gpu smh

youre buying for gaming, why would you sacrifice the most important part for gaming …

      • +2

Whoops, linked the wrong one lmao
https://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-… Was this one I was looking for, there was a recent -$100 deal on it bringing it down to under the price of the other.

If you're not concerned about a screen size (or prefer a larger screen), this is even better… $1319 for similar (/better) specs than the Razer.
        https://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-…
Bring your own windows though, but this is free to ~$50 these days.

i know, not apples-to-apples, different cpu, but the cpu is better with the 1050ti so youd assume its better

also smaller battery, and install your own windows, which adds technical overhead as well as monetary

        • @tf2manu994: thats the desktop version of the 970. Either way the 1050ti and the 970m perform nearly identically so it's mostly a choice of build at this point.

        • oops, sorry!

but yeah, the difference is negligible overall, and id say the razer build + battery gives it the edge

        • +5

          @tf2manu994:
The CPU with the 1050ti example is worse single threaded performance, explaining the lower result. The 7700HQ is (to the best of my knowledge) the current best single threaded performance for laptops.

          970M 4045 score
          1050 4479 score

          i7-4720HQ 8030 score (1915 single threaded)
          i7-7700HQ 8987 score (2027 single threaded)

From this we can conclude in the real world you should experience around +10% performance in games/etc. Barely a difference, but I'm more pointing out the only real advantage of the Razer is branding + QHD screen… It's each to their own if it's worth the extra ~$250 for QHD and branding.

        • @dyl: QHD is awesome! Once you've used it, you don't want to go back to FHD.

        • @congngo:
I've got a QHD phone which is a noticeable difference, but I've never really seen the point of it on a 14" laptop. With how far you are away from the screen it's not too noticeable, in reality it just makes everything look smaller imo

        • @dyl: Windows 10 has good scaling. So I scale my screen at 200%.
Everything is the right size but it is a lot sharper. IMO it is worth the extra $$

        • @congngo:
Yeah Windows 10 scaling does an amazing job, but it's still a factor of if the difference is worth $300… esp when you're just scaling it anyway. Personally I don't really notice any difference between QHD and FullHD on a 14" screen when scaled equally…

    • Probably not the best Metabox to suggest considering this Blade has a better GPU than the one you linked.
EDIT: got beaten to it gahh

      • +2

Yeah, linked the wrong one… There was a $100 off deal on the 1050 variant of it a few days back, recklessly assumed it was this one I was linking.. :P

https://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-… This is the correct one. KongComputers would more than likely let a few people access the deal again if they're interested, bringing it to $1499 if you remove the harddrive.

  • +2

This doesn't have USB-C therefore won't be compatible with any eGPU or razer Core.

  • Anyone have experience with Razer laptops? Any good?

    • +3

I pre-ordered the original 14" blade and have had it since. TL;DR: it's good but there are SERIOUS caveats.

      • Hardware is attractive and fast. It's some of the best spec wise around.
      • keyboard: It's the best damn keyboard I've ever used on a laptop. I have a Macbook Air as well, which is very good, but dang, the have only improved since they released mine and I still think mine is the best I've ever used. I was considering a new MBP but I can't use that keyboard after the Razer.

      Downside:
      * warranty. They advertise only 1 year on their site despite consumer law. You'll need to fight with them.
      * repairs - ugh, you have to send it back for anything. You can't get a replacement battery (for example) with out sending it in.
      * some shit just fell apart. My screen broke, bottom strips fell off, keyboard got wonky, etc. It might be a tad better now, but I don't abuse my stuff and have had several things pop up - far more than my last mac.
      * I can't even buy a first party power adapter for my 2013-2014 laptop. That's ridiculous. It's super expensive anyway, but they simply DO NOT SELL IT. Ugh. You have to go 3rd party.

I like my Razer; I wish I loved it. If it just was more reliable and I could buy parts to fix it myself, then I'd be able to love it. I would ONLY recommend it to someone where it wasn't a primary computer. The only way I've been able to resist blowing it up is that I have 2 other computers at home in my rotation, so I can live without it for week or two at a time.

  • For those interested in the current Razer lineup, below are the rough pricing of the 256gb model of each. Note the 2015 base model does come with a QHD display while the other two have a choice between matte full HD and QHD (with the prior giving better battery life).

    ~$1550: This deal: 2015 V3 i7–4720 GTX 970 16GB 1600
    ~$2500: Late 2016 V5 i7-6700 GTX 1060 16GB 2133
    ~$2650: 2017 i7-7700 GTX 1060 16GB 2400

  • Looks like my macbook pro, but in black.

  • I am still waiting for New MacBook Pro to become affordable. ☺️☺️

    • +2

I'm waiting for the old one to become affordable…

      • Apple products that are affordable are only found in Woolies.

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M (3GB GDDR5 VRAM)

    nope

  • I was looking at a Lenovo with a GTX 1050 Ti and an i7-7700HQ for 1,699, is that a good deal you guys think? 16GB DDR4 2400MHz, 256GB SSD PCIe+1TB 5400 rpm, 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, anti-glare

  • great, a Razer laptop.

these idiots can't engineer a machine that doesn't burn its components like a bad chef. bad thermals, bad design, bad engineering.

wouldn't touch this thing with a 500 foot pole

  • Still more expensive than prices in the US without discount.

  • Razor laptops have terrible warranty and repair support - they got the lowest marks here.

    https://www.pcauthority.com.au/Feature/443571,in-the-game-of…

    • I would only be interested in these machines due to the macbook form factor without it being a hipster paper weight.
