Such a good coffee machine, deff buy if you're looking for a awesome machine ;)

  • Ah - you beat me to it.

    I bought one moments ago..

  • This is the cheapest so far saving for the Amex/Harvey Norman deal if having multiple amex cards..

  • Got this for $610 2 weeks ago @ GG from the ebay sale, my Dad is super happy with it (only thing is manual setting of grinding the beans).

    • Which sale? I have been following this item for a while finally pulled the trigger today.. didn't know it was $610 two weeks before.

      • +2

Oh wait my bad, we got the 870 - good price for this one then! #jealous.

    • EDIT this is for the 920 and smart grinder.

We use a few different beans so once dialed in I write down the grinder settings (dose, 1 or 2 cup, Grind) for each type of bean, it will put you very close when you swap beans without a lot of fiddling.

  • +1

This machine is the best appliance level coffee machine. This deal will require a decent grinder the Breville Smart Grinder Pro should be available at the TGG, IME the other appliance grinders won't do justice to this machines ability.

  • This is an amazing price for this awesome coffee machine!! Great find!

  • +8

Offensively cheap. Almost tempted to buy another.

    • +1

Yeah telling me. I bought one a couple of years ago and was sucked in to purchasing it with a 5yr wty. for $1300 with the pro breville grinder. And there i was hoping for a good resell value… Huhu! $679.15 brandnew…huhu!

Oh just a valuable tip. Always wipe any splattered coffee out of its body. Trust me this stainless steel body is prone to rusting.

Also u dont need to get the 6 pack descale tablet (they are after market anyway). Buy the $7 liquid one from woolies (3 dose).

  • +2

This is amazing. I have this machine and it's great. Ask me questions if you have any :)

    • Just picked one up - can you recommend a good grinder to go with it as this one is just the machine itself?

      • +3

Breville smart grinder Pro at a minimum.

Please don't buy a cheap grinder. They won't grind fine enough and the water will just pour through.

You will waste some beans getting it all set up and getting drinkable coffee. But the quality when you get it dialled in is superb.

The coffee machine comes with four baskets. Two are pressurized and two are non pressurized. Use the non pressurized if you are grinding fresh.

I use dark roast beans from aldi and they are pretty good hey.

        • +1

Thanks for the wise words! Definitely won't skimp on a grinder after dropping $700 on the machine.

Just out of curiousity, how long do your beans last once opened? I was cautious about spoilage at first as I'm the only coffee drinker at home and only drink one per day.

Lastly, have you ever heard of people making tea using loose leaf tea in the baskets? That would appeal to my other half as she isn't a coffee drinker…

        • Use the non-pressurized basket for everything including Supermarket beans, they still have reasonable crema and a better taste than a lot of cafes, we have tried Lavazza and Grinders.
Fresh roasted is obviously better though :)

The pressurized ones are good for taking up room in a draw.

    • How long does the machine take to heat up from cold? Always wondered this about boiler machines coming from always using machines with a thermoblock.

      • +1

Pretty fast, just a couple of minutes. This version (compared to the older version) has a stronger heater. The machine will heat the water in the boilder but I would still recommend longer heating to get the portafilter and head really heat.

      • +1

From cold I would estimate less than a minute

  • +3

Which is the grinder most use with this? Is it the Breville BCG820BSS Smart Grinder Pro? Or some other model? Myer ebay has that for $199 - good price?

Edit: Looks like The Good Guys also have it for that price until 30 June, so maybe I'll just buy that when I pick up this coffee machine.

    • you can use a code on the myer one..

      • No codes I could find work, since I've already used the code on this machine. Oh well.

  • Great coffee machine! The used coffee grounds are great as fertiliser after a bit of composting.
Currently going though some beans from Manna Beans and they've been great.

  • +1

    This is insane!

Awesome machine…My old model BES900 is 5 years old and still makes beautiful shots.

Can't praise this machine highly enough. Also, Breville support is amazing as well, I had a problem with mine after the warranty expired and they still covered all costs/labor.

  • that's crazy! damn this is soo cheap! I thought i got a decent deal years ago when I paid just over a grand with the grinder… ahh better coffee than I get from a hipster coffee shop!

  • I'm looking to buy a new coffee machine! Should I pull the trigger on this? Please help me!!!

    • Going by comments yes and this hasn't been this cheap in a very long time unless you have Amex offers and a sale on at the same time

      • I do have amex but i did a quick search and this is still cheaper even with amex sale

        • Well better jump on it then before it sells out or is removed :) Get alittle extra off with cashrewards too

        • I bought it! The was an error with eBay and it said to check out again but the payment went through paypal!!

I only got an email from paypal and not ebay ….

  • I do not really need BES920 as it's too big and function. I think I am suit to BES870? Any advices? its $551.65

But this is definately a f….g good deal.

    • +1

you wanna buy my bes870 so i can upgrade to this? lol

    • +1

      @veron

The bes870 is a single thermoblock machine (the same technology used in $100 machines)…..completely different. The 920 is a boiler based machine.

      • bes870 is sigle boiler, not a thermo block @ash

        • +1

          Oh…..r u sure.?

        • @ash2000: it's okay. so still good to buy….but can't compare with 920 of course

        • @veron:

          I think the bes870 has a thermocoil ?

  • Missus had been nagging for coffee machine.. done.

  • Nice price. I almost got one of these in 2015 but went fora Lelit instead as these were still up around the $1000 mark. Hope this is the new standard price now as I would definitely get one next time around.

  • Is this unit the exact same as the unit in the BEP920BSS? I think it is… Spec sheet is slightly different but I think that's just cos of what they've bothered to include.

    • Ignore me

    • +1

Yes. The P refers to the model that includes the grinder bundle in the box.

  • Worth upgrading over the sunbeam 6910?

    • I've owned both, it's is a worthwhile upgrade…… It's a much more refined machine, better build quality, and most notably it consistently produces better coffee ( which is the benefit of boiler based machines).

    • Yeh Ive had mine for about 7 years, 3 to 6 coffees everyday still going strong, but the thought of an upgrade is exciting. A little tempted on this deal but I'll hold back and keep my 6910 for a bit longer.

      • +1

The 6910 is still an excellent machine……. and amazing value for under $500 with the grinder. I paid about $800 for the machine alone in the 09'

        • +1

          I bought my EM7000 in the '14
          Still going strong.
Bet it will breakdown when this is no longer on sale.

    • +1

That was what I upgraded from, the 920 is quieter, cleaner, vastly more consistent and taste significantly better with the same beans.
      To answer your question YES.

    • No question, definitely worth it

    • I upgraded from a 6910 to this machine, way better if you are doing milk based coffees, and even espresso a lot more consistent results.

My 6910 was pretty well used, had to regularly descale the thermblock with a bit of a hack I found on coffeesnobs (let machine heat up and then disconnect the thermoblock so i can pump descaler thru without boiling it). Pretty dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Anyway, the breville blows the 6910 away on steam output. I reckon it's about twice as quick (double the volume?) and very easy to texture milk.

I'm still using the sunbeam grinder I got with the 6910.

Oh and this price is a steal. I paid 799 for mine and I thought it was an ozbargain!

      • +1

It is worth upgrading your grinder to the smart grinder pro, I have the same grinder as you and the smart grinder is a massive improvement much more consistent grain to the coffee, the 6910 grinder has a large assortment of grain size on each dose in comparison.

  • +1

Just looking up if this will fit on my bench, but i think it will fall short. :(

    Product Width (cm) 41
    Product Depth (cm) 38
    Product Height (cm) 38

Can anyone who has this unit confirm if 41cm width is accurate?

    • +2

I just measured mine. It's just under 38cm so not sure why Breville say 41cm. You're welcome :)

      • Did you measure the steam knob ?

        • +2

Holy crap. Now I feel like a knob… 41cm including the 2 x knobs (hot water on the left; steam on the right). Sorry @skd22.

        • @fault:

She's a big machine. Which is good!

  • thank you much appreciated! Found that on the Harvey Norman specs :|

    • I hear ya, I'd love to replace my 6910 with this but it's enormous; can't really justify the bench space.

  • Anyone recommend a good grinder to go with this?

  • +2

    Thanks mate.
Grabbed one and a the grinder from Myer for 199.

  • If you are buying the grinder from Myer use promo code: ANNIVERSARY20 to receive $20 off.

    • +1

Bought it off eBay and got $29 off.
      Free delivery too.

      • Which code?

        • +1

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/232330436971

          code: CALM

          Geeze……that's a bargain. $170

Someone should list that or Trent could add it to this post.

        • +1

@ash2000: I put it in post just incase others want one. Thanks guys :)

        • @TRENT86:

Well, you've helped shift almost $50,000 worth of machines since you listed this post!

  • well that is even better :)

  • +1

Would love to replace my EM7000 but cant think of a reason that would stop the wife killing me. i.e. its only a little better and current machine is working fine

  • +1

I have the older model. So tempted to get another 1 just in case it broke down.

  • I wish I could could get it in black, and I wish I could buy it with Myer vouchers. :(

  • +6

Goodbye money. Hello shaking hands and anxiety!

  • For those considering a slightly cheaper alternative, I have the Breville BES870 with inbuilt grinder. It works perfectly for a small household. I was able to pick mine up ~ $500 on a eBay sale.

It goes without saying, use freshly roasted coffee beans [I find they stay great for a few weeks after roast date].

If you live in WA, be sure to par this up with Fiori beans and Bannister downs milk!

    • Any concern of heat from machine's boiler hurt the taste/freshness of bean store in the grinder(BES870)?

      • Nope, the beans are perched above the machine and seem well sealed/isolated… that being said I've never put a thermometer into them to test. I've had mine for about 2 years now and haven't noticed any problems - Breville builds them well!

  • bought 1, thanks

  • Damn bought one last week for 850

  • +1

How many coffees do you guys drink a day? I'm trying to justify buying one but i only drink one a day so im unsure if it's worth it

    • +1

      Think of it this way..

If you drink a coffee a day for the year.

      Assuming $3[conservative] a coffee, $21 a week, = $1092 a year

If you buy beans and DIY

      $15 for 250g = $1.11 a coffee, (15 dosage) $7.77 a week, $404 a year

Pays itself off in a years time plus you get to cater for friends and family

  • +1

    Highly recommended

    Buy the matching smart grinder
Only use the unpressurised double basket (don't bother with the single)
Get fresh roasted beans but if you are cheap the ALDI medium roast are great too (it comes to about 10cents a cup)
Get on YouTube to learn how to dose, tamp, grind size etc

  • Best machine ever you won't regret it. Coupled with the smart grinder I recommend this over the Oracle saving you $$$.

  • +1

I picked this up the other day for $751 in store. Don't forget that they come with 2 x 500gm bags of beans as a part of the promotion run by TGG.

  • Balls!!

Was just about to buy this…..then it struck midnight
    Cinderella?!?!
    I don't even have a bl00dy pumpkin

    Damn

I have the EM7000, great machine, but just thought this could be a nice upgrade

    • Is it still up? Or definitely finished? I thought the CALM code was valid through till the 26th (unconfirmed).

  • Random question but for those who own this espresso machine… Is this multivoltage? (100v-240v)

Might bring it with me to Japan someday so…

Edit: NVM found it on their website

    • What was the answer mate?

    • The Breville website implies it's only 220-240V

  • How much of an upgrade would this be for the Breville BES870 "Barista Express" …?

I love my little machine but this appears a reasonable upgrade, assuming I can get a little money for the that one.

    • The BES870 is a very capable machine.
It essentially has the Smart Grinder built in and it's a nice and compact setup.

The real advantage of this machine is if you need to make several coffees in one go e.g large family or entertain a lot. The dual boiler means you can froth milk and pull shots at the same time which speeds things up.

  • hey guys just wondering for later

what are the benefits of dual boilers?

also how long can you expect a coffee machine to last?

also what usually happens when it fails?

also do coffee machines ever have 50% off sales?

    • Main benefits are being able to froth milk and pull shots at the same time which really speeds things up if you need to make several coffees in one go.

Depending on brand coffee machines can last anywhere from a few years to 10+ years if maintained properly.

      • oh i see

also what things do you need to do to maintain the coffee machine properly?

        • +1

coffee cleaner (not to be confused with descaler. Cleaner cleans the group head and flushes out the oil and particle build up)
Descaler (like cleaning your kettle, there is mineral build up in the boilers so that basically breaks that down so you have nice clean water again)

  • Amazing price for a great machine. This makes professional style coffees although you need to know what your doing and you need a separate grinder.

Iv'e had mine for 5 years without any issue.

  • Got a call from Good Guys said they only had the display unit. Wondering whether I should have right to ask for a new unit? They have said it is discontinued and display unit is all they have left across all stores

    Thanks

    • Ask for further discount if it's a display model like maybe a gift card or store credit
