Incredible piece of hardware. I own this very laptop. 1GB of dedicated graphics, a Core i7 CPU, Gigabit ethernet, WiFi N, USB 3, Bluray player. It's got everything you could need. A card reader and 640gb drive to go with the previous specs. I recommend this laptop.

I got it at the DSE Easter Sale earlier this year for $1300-ish.

Please note that the WiFi N card isn't capable of 5GHz networks. It's only for 2.4GHz. It has an eSata port too. Battery life doesn't even get to 2 hours if you set the PC to performance mode. If you set the battery management to save battery, you can get around 3 hours. No more. Forget 2 hours, an hour and half and the laptop goes down on performance mode.

Looks like a damn good laptop. I'm unsure if everyone will see this as a "bargain" but it is $70 less than the cheapest on staticice so that's worth noting and free shipping makes the saving worth $100 to most I guess.

If I was more financial right now I'd buy it. ASUS is the only laptop brand I really trust at the moment so I don't care if a HP or Acer with same specs can be had for less!

I guess the only things I could fault it on is lack of Bluray and typically low resolution but Bluray is easily fixed and resolution is the same everyone else is offering so they are somewhat moot points.

EDIT: Oh wait I think it has Bluray? Scratch that.

    • Has bluray. I was surprised at that too. DSE listed it as having only a DVDRW drive but yeah it's got a bluray drive.

      • As Far as we are aware it is just a DVD Drive as per the specifications above/our web page / the side of the box.

  • The only downside to the laptop is that it is very glossy (the screen) and attracts dust very easily. The glossy screen is also not good for brightly lit rooms. It's okay, its not unusable but yeah definitely you'll notice that it reflects a lot.

On the plus side, the trackpad is nice and big and the keyboard is very good with a numerical keypad. The keyboard and trackpad is not all that different-looking from a Macbook pro (not the same but looks identical in black colour).

And finally, as for gaming performance (may not be the best game as a test) but I played Splinter Cell: Conviction on highest setting and no lag anywhere.

    • I have a BDROM in my laptop. It's N61JQ. I'll check which version im using.

      • Sorry guys. Didn't know there were 2 different versions of N61JQ. bruc3 is right. This version has no BDROM.

hmmm 2 hours of battery life, No bluray drive, 16” HD (1366x768)…I'm so glad I didn't impulse buy this laptop now :)

    • It is still a great price, although no blu ray, IMO this is a bang for buck laptop.

    • Isn't 1366x766 too low for 16"?
Unfortunately, most of the 15.4" notebooks come with glossy and 1366x766 screens

      • Isn’t 1366x766 too low for 16”?

yeah, very low DPI. Wouldn't want to be reading PDFs on this.

Unfortunately, most of the 15.4” notebooks come with glossy and 1366x766 screens

serious business laptops have matt screens.

  • Only $150 more gets you the BluRay version (I have one!).

    • Is BluRay on a laptop really that important? Besides, the screen has a horrible resolution. Won't do BluRay media much justice unless you hook it up to a 1080p monitor or LCD TV.

I'd rather spend the extra $150 on a dedicated Blu-ray player.
