Dammit so tempting but my Sunbeam em7000 is still going strong.
I wonder when refills will have a successor to this boiler?

    • In the same situation…leaning towards its not actually much of an upgrade. I am not super convincing even to myself :)

    • I would not buy the first version of a new model, the 920 in on version 3.

The EM6910 IMO is at least as good as the EM7000 other than noise possibly better, the 920 with the smart grinder pro is a significant step up from a 6910.

    • *refills = Breville. Stupid iPad autocorrect.

  • dang nabbit i just bought a smart grinder yesterday!

    The 920 is realllly tempting

It's really worth it! we use it every single day.

      • My 860 still pulls excellent shots 6-8 a day, grinder impeller is worn so its jamming (hence the smart grinder purchase), will definitely be upgrading to dual boiler and if this price trend continues probably sooner then I anticipated.:)

        • We used to get Mc cafe cappuccinos all the time (yes we liked them) at like $5 a pop we're saving sooo much money by buying the 920 and we can make em at home whenever we want! also a lot fresher. >:) We buy our beans from Mannabeans Jamocha beans.

        • @Jetship: mccafe coffees are $5…?

        • @ts13:

depends on what size you get, but yes

This price is insane. Great machine.

    • Insane in the membrane.

    • Isn't there a version with a grinder built in?

      • Yep, "The Oracle". More expensive though.

      • Also fully automatic. I would prefer the control of a manual machine. Some problem prefer the freedom of having a separate grinding unit. More customisable, and easier to manage if one component breaks.

  • WHY NOT BLACK?! :(

    • I think you could afford to buy some paint to paint it black given the money you're saving here…

      • I want it to match my toaster, kettle, and microwave… :(

  • brother bought this yesterday, loving it so far.

  • Is this easy to use
Rate this machine out of 10 being 5 stars

I brought one of those pod machines
    Seriously don't even use it

The machine is easy to use compared to deciphering this comment

It is easy to use, but if you can't be bothered with a pod machine, then you definitely won't be bothered using a manual machine.

Guess this person needs Nestle Blend 43.

        • Might be too much hassle. Maybe International Roast is more appropriate?

  • I was bummed when I missed out on the similar deal using calm code. This time I didn't sit on it.

This will be an upgrade from our trusty em5900 we bought during the bigw coffee machine craze back in 2011. Looking forward to microfoam.

Having 2 boilers does that mean you can pull a shot and froth milk at the same time? Hope so.

I'm still rolling with the em0450 grinder and have seen mixed reviews on coffee snobs, anyone have this combo that can comment?

    • This combination - especially at these price points - are excellent bang for your buck. I upgraded from a Sunbeam EM6900 with EM0450 grinder to the BES900 (BES920's predecessor) and the BCG820 Smart Grinder Pro and have never looked back. Both machines are far superior and the BES920 is even better again courtesy of its faster warmup time. And yes, you can absolutely pull a shot and froth milk at the same time.

      • +2

Definitely excited about pulling a shot and frothing milk at the same time.

    • Yes, you can pull a shot and froth milk at the same time. I had the em450 when I first bought my dual boiler several years ago and I thought it was great until I purchased Mahlkonig Vario (I need simple to use, easy to change grind for different coffees).

      • I've never changed my grind on my em0450 ever. Gee I've just checked some prices on eBay for a Mahlkonig Various, and dang I won't be buying that.

An upgrade to the smart grinder might also be on the cards.

Did you guys have to purchase anything else for this machine? Eg different baskets?

        • No, you don't need to buy anything, it even comes with a tamp, ok it's not a flashy tamp but does the job, so maybe an upgrade down the track. I kept meaning to buy a naked group handle like I had for my Sunbeam but never got around to it. I only ever use the double basket. The only thing I have ever bought is water filters and cleaning tablets and I buy those on ebay as they are much, much cheaper than buying from Breville or retail stores.

        • @robbyjones:

Cheers Robby, any links to the descaler you use on eBay? Is the filter built into the machine?

Water I use for my coffee machine is already filtered.

        • @robbyjones: where'd you get the naked from? Been looking for one for em7000 sunbeam.

        • @madturbo123: I haven't ever used a descaler, the machine I have (previous model to this one) advises against it. The filter is removeable inside the water tank, I also use filtered water but use the water filter also, not sure if it is needed or not but it only needs replacing once every 3 months so no biggy.

        • +1

@garbagetnt: I purchased mine from a member from coffeesnobs website who was making them. I would start there because someone is bound to know where to get one from. If the size of the basket is the same you are welcome to have mine.

        • @robbyjones: not just the basket size that needs to fit. The actual portafilter needs to be able to fit int he group head. I've had trouble getting any other naked pfs to fit. Might have to bite the bullet and buy one from breville.

        • @robbyjones: do you mean the naked portafilter right? Which model sunbeam did you use it with?

        • @garbagetnt: Yep, 6910

        • @robbyjones: sweet, that should be compatible with my EM7000. happy to make use of if you're not using it anymore and willing to part with it. let me know what you need.
