$200 Gift Card with Health Insurance Purchase - Compare The Market Family & Friends Offer

92

Hi friends, I might get in trouble for this, but sharing anyway given June is always a good time to review/take out health insurance.

Our CEO sent an email with an offer for our 'Family and Friends'. Basically, click through via the link and review your health insurance. If you decide to purchase, you'll get a $200 virtual Visa card (or, choose an e-gift card for a select retailer). As I understand it, Compare the Market have the largest panel of health insurance providers to compare, so it's definitely worth comparing to see if you're on the right policy (not to mention the $200).

You'll also get a meerkat toy - your choice of Aleksandr or Sergei.

Email as below:

Hello Team,
Today, we want to extend an exciting offer to all our staff (+ their family and friends!). If you buy hospital cover through us before June 25, we will give you a $200 e-gift card*.

June is one of the best times of the year to review health cover, which is why we’re happy to sweeten the deal with this reward. You can choose to redeem a virtual VISA card or an e-gift card to spend with brands like Coles, Kmart, JB Hi-Fi, Myer, Rebel Sport, Ticketmaster, Caltex.

If you’re interested in taking up this offer, simply click here (link removed and put in post link) to access, or phone our specialists on 1800 503 588 in your free time. Just let them know you’re calling about the Staff, Friends and Family offer and want to redeem the e-Gift card with your purchase.

Don’t forget, you’ll also get a Meerkat toy when you buy – a great opportunity to complete your set.

    Except compare the market does not compare all services, as stated in their terms and conditions. They also receive commission from the services they offer.
    So although you receive a $200 gift card now, you're most likely paying more by not being fully informed about all services applicable to you.

    I suggest everyone uses the free gov comparison website, which does show all services and does not take commission.

      Agree with this.

      Also, remember that it's your health fund that has to pay all these sign on bonuses and commissions and that comes off your health fund's bottom line.

      This means your premiums go up even more when you go through 3rd party referrers.

      Go direct to the Government comparison website and then sign up directly - www.privatehealth.gov.au/compare

      Actually, Health Insurance costs are regulated, so it doesn't matter where you buy - it'll still be the same price.

      Edit: see section 4.4 (page 27) here

        Bullshit, the cost of shonky comparison sites is a cost to everyone who has health insurance. Where do you think the money comes from to pay you, your executives, the advertising and so forth?

          You could say the same about cashrewards… but I don't see anyone complaining about cashrewards here.

          Basically, some vendors, and some insurers, pay commission to agents to generate business. Some don't - which is why they're not on comparethemarket, or cashrewards.

          If you want to buy from that vendor or insurer, going through an agent may give you extra benefits. It's up to the company whether they want to support or not that model though. The fact comparethemarket are passing some of that back to you now is more beneficial than going through a broker where they still get the commission, but you get no benefit (apart from their guidance).

          @odysseus:

          Because Cashrewards doesn't work the same way a "comparison" website system works. Also, plenty of people complain about Cashrewards on this site…

          @Sir Casm:

          The only difference is the way they get customers. A comparison site adds the comparison feature to encourage visitors (since normally customers don't get cashback). Cashback sites otoh promote their financial benefits to get customers to sign up.

          Both get commission from the vendor for referring business and the funding model to the site is the same.

          @odysseus:

          Odysseus is spot on, not to mention Amex and other credit cards that charge higher than cost transaction fees to cover generous reward schemes.

          These are all small (sometimes very large) costs born on venders so the customer gets a little something. And costs everyone something.

    I want the one with the glasses, I think it's Sergei?

    How long do we need to hold the insurance for?

    • +2

      45 Days - just got off the phone to them :)

      • Thanks, how much is your premium?

  • The real reason health insurance is so expensive is all these shonky misleading comparison sites that are only interested in making the most commission they can.

    Look at the millions they spend on advertising, this is added to every premium even if you don't use these websites and the more that do means ever increasing prices.

    There are free alternatives and do your own homework, after all you're the only one who knows what you need.

    I negged the deal because it is not a real comparison site and they do not openly disclose this aside from the small print. These companies serve no purpose but to increase prices for everyone.

        I don't have health insurance so I've saved you money.

  • Can you sign up for it to start in a couple months time?

    • I think you can. but the $200 voucher will come 45 days after your insurance cover commences.

  • Do you need to get hospital and extras cover?

    • Hospital cover is the minimum requirement. Up to you whether you buy extras or not

      • Great thanks! Do you think I could get this and combine it with the current bupa offer which is about $100 gift for a single combined cover?

  • This was meant to expire on the 30th, so has finish early! Disappointed as i was about to sign up!

    • Though the friends and family offer has ended, you can get this via a different promo at http://compare.tm

  • Thanks!
