The main challenge can be warranty, as local stock have better rules and warranty arrangements but those are expensive. Other than that specific models can have different supported frequencies depending of origin.
Normally most of grey import works fine without any issue, so it's personal choice.
The downside is: you are not covered by Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
I buy grey imports expecting no warranty although individual sellers will vary. But ultimately the seller can say screw you to any returns or faults and have no consequences.
Personally, generally speaking, I think no warranty coverage is worth paying any extra money for since devices hardly ever break. If you continuously buy non-grey import items (covered by ACL) that are more expensive each time then you will pay more money than someone who buys grey import and replaces items as and when they break.
Thanks for the great info. I've had a dozen phones and never had one break or needed a warranty claim, so with that in mind I guess it's worth the risk. Although this Shopping Square deal states there's a 1 year warranty in Australia.
Have anyone bought from them and know that if this model works with Samsung Pay and Android Pay?
From past experience with my grey import S6 and S7. Android pay worked for me but Samsung pay never worked.

Excuse my ignorance. What's the downside of Grey import smartphones? I had a SGS5 Grey import and the only issue was that the Foxtel Go app didn't work, but that got resolved. Is there something to be cautious about?
