This is not a bargain, this is an RRP preorder.

  • +2

imo, the people negging this and not negging the other ones listed on ozbargain just because the store reps took time out to show the community they are stocking it at the MSRP deserve to lose out, and have to fork out hundreds of more dollars on ebay later down the track.

    seriously… keyboard warriors these days.

    • +1

      This, was wondering why, pathetic.

  • can these still play the cartridge games or only whatever is preloaded?

    • +2

Only what is preloaded. The device is physically smaller than the original.

Fairly certain the Mini NES was hacked to allow people to play other games, so one can only hope the same happens with this ;)

  • +1

Not negging the deal, but jeez, after setting up recalbox on the weekend, I am quite horrified by how much I had romanticised old games.
I wish I'd kept believing that snes was the bees knees and not emulated it. A few minutes with starfox had me in tears!
MK3 was somewhat fun but ruined for me by using a PS3 controller rather than the real deal.
I really want to love the old games, but buyer beware lol. It can ruin some memories.

  • +4

    No Bargain. Just RRP.

  • +4

    95c cheaper at JB HiFi

  • +1

You know, from the types of ppl commenting on this deal, it makes me wonder why you guys go out of your way to kick the smaller guys and you all support ebay/JB/EB. Go back to buying your 10c delivered plastic cockroaches in bubblegum prank items.

In the mean time, I wonder if these will sell out by Christmas.

    • +3

The reason ozbargain is so popular and has such a large community following is the strict enforcement of the rules on what constitutes a bargain by its users. You, as an ozbargain user, should appreciate that. There's no discrimination between a small or large company - if you don't follow the rules your post gets removed. Without it ozbargain would be nothing more than a site full of spam ads that no one wants to visit.

      • +1

75c back on $100 on eBay qualifies as a "bargain" by the users here. People are fickle.

        • +1

The JB deal represents a 0.78% saving off RRP + delivery too.

  • +5

    Not a bargain, RRP.

  • +2

RRP, yes. But if the rule applies here, it has to be applied to the other two deals from EB & JB which have a lot less negs.

    • i agree, thats the issue at hand.

    • +6

Those deals also do not belong on OzBargain, but I can tolerate them enough to just ignore them rather than comment or neg them. The fact that a company is using this site to market full priced items so that it can generate more sales is straightforward advertising for commercial gain.

I'd like to say it is a subtle difference, but it is a huge difference. This is not a place to generate free advertising.

      • That is fair. I see what you mean.

  • +4

No bargain here, just plain RRP.

Move along folks, nothing to see here..

    • +7

Hey, you're mistaking me for my brother, I'll have you know I'm not "plain"

  • -1

The gamesmen game is computer games

    • +4

An awesome range of computer games!

      • +2

        491 Forest Road, Penshurst!

  • Star Fox? Psht! I still have Star WING in case with original SNES from when I was about 4, those things were built to last. What's the fascination with these re-releases? Especially when "Note: An AC adapter for the USB cable is required to play the system but is not included in the packaging."

    • +1

Mines just going to be used as a display because I like the look of it. Original SNES takes up too much space in the Ikea detolf.

    • Star Fox 2 was never released.

  • Why not make it $118 so it's the cheapest price around and shut up all the haters?

    • +1

      coz it'll sell regardless

  • Computer says noooooo

We were looking into the 66% off model but one small problem: it's forked.

  • +3

    Not the cheapest available.

    • When demand outstrips supply, the retailer has no incentive to discount. Its not a charity.

  • -8

    $100+

    Nice bargain !

    • +2

      $100+

      Nice bargain !

Can you link somewhere that's cheaper than $100 then…?

      • -3

Do you have some relationship with the owner of this topic?

        • +1

No, but your original comment doesn't make any sense.

  • +7

    Not the cheapest available.

  • +3

This is not a bargain, cheaper elsewhere

  • +6

If I was posting the deal as a rep, I would have offered a $5 discount. Would have been the only legitimate post about the console on here, and probably would have been picked up on Nintendo blogs etc. Just saying.

    • +1

So true. Forgo $5 for the sake of getting one up on the competition and being a small (yet legitimate) deal.

  • Pre ordered 5mins ago from Gamesmen! i'll be picking mine up instore!
    Thank you!

  • +1

The fact that the rep is making jokes around some people's posts, and ignoring the negative feedback also speaks wonders for their integrity.

    • -2

No point arguing with the stupid. (All the negative voters)

  • +1

Funny how only 7 people have neg'd EB Games.

    • Half of the neg votes in this thread is just literally parroting the same thing too

      • Sheepies. Love it how I got downvoted to oblivion calling out one who said "not a bargain" and then their neg gets removed.

Apparently it's hard to specify why something isn't a bargain.

        • +5

This post is from a rep who's thinking "Shit, better post this on Ozbargain because people are eating up the other SNES stock levels. Going to quickly advertise this for free and with no discount too! People will love this "deal"! Buy MY stock at the same price, not from those guys at EBgames!"

        • @R.R.P: You're not wrong. My point is people should explain why they're negging otherwise they'll get removed.

        • +2

          @Clear:
That's a valid point. I think the majority of negs here are in protest of advertising witch is also valid to a degree.

        • +1

@R.R.P: And that's why those negs have remained.

        • @R.R.P:

That's a valid point. I think the majority of negs here are in protest of advertising witch is also valid to a degree.

Mate, this ain't Hogwarts… This is SPARTA OzBargain.

  • +9

This is not the kind of community I want to be in. This negatively and critical shitposting is toxic. I like bargains, I like people helping each other, I like knowing about where to buy hard to buy things. I don't like reading negative posts bitching about others.

Can't we just be happy that there's a few places to buy these things since they're almost certainly going to sell out at the big name retailers?

    • +3

The forums are the most appropriate place - that is people's issue. Otherwise it's simply advertising which isn't the purpose of the site.

      • +3

Yep, take it to the forums. This space is for DEALS not ADVERTISEMENTS!

        • +2

Yes, selling same price as anywhere and there is no deals.

    • This is not the kind of community I want to be in.

It's already a bit late. There's enough people or bots who upvote like crazy $0.75 savings off $100 "bargains". Already pretty suss as a "community" overall, not much different to fake reviews and feedback of stuff online.

    • +2

But its what keeps this site it is successful, brutal honest feedback. Sometimes right and sometimes wrong.

I know i can go to ozb and use the comments assess the deal and as a result have some sort of integrity.

  • +4

Sorry but this is cheaper at JB-HiFi

  • +2

Cheaper at JB Hi-Fi, not a bargain.

  • +3

I agree- shouldn't be posted here. One of my few negs or this could be the first…. it's ok if ozbargain like other sites turn into adds someone will make another add free system and rinse , repeat so the cycle of life continues
    Cheaper elsewhere + rrp

  • What's with the dumb (profanity) mod revoking valid negs?

    • Probably should have a read on the voting guidelines

    • (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) Mario (profanity) (profanity) in the Castle. (profanity) (profanity) voting guidelines.

      • +2

Dammit neil. Stop posting as a mod so we can upvote your comments.

  • +2

This is just rrp store rep…

    • +1

It's RRP in the EB Games post you upvoted too…

      • +3

And it was not a store rep who posted it either. This is called advertisement.

  • +1

The deal is not the cheapest available

  • +4

    RRP is no deal.

  • +3

not a deal, never purchasing from gm for poor standards

  • +7

OzBargain is not a place for free advertising.
This is not a deal, nor is it cheaper than the other 2 "deals".

EB: $119.95 (RRP) pickup or $124.95 delivered.
    JB: $119 (0.79% discount) + $6.95 delivery = $125.95 delivered.
Gamesmen: $119.95 pickup or min $129.10 delivered.

I really like you guys and you have top notch service, but if this isn't just an attempt at advertising, then I don't know what is.

Next time, put it into the forums or actually try to make it a "bargain".

  • +4

Post is retail price + shipping that's more expensive than other places that you can preorder from at the time of the post creation.

This is a bargain site, not a free advertising site.

  • +1

    This isnt ozrrp plus delivery!

  • +4

Apparently it's okay to advertise RRP products on ozbargain now. Not just that but we should be appreciative that these companies are taking the effort to let us know about these "great deals" which are actually more expensive than at other places? Ridiculous. Get your shit together ozbargain.

  • +3

Not a deal just what I can buy it for elsewhere.

    Let's try to reduce clutter

  • +3

Sorry this is RRP, no deal here…

  • +3

I feel that the people negging here should not be hypocrites and should also neg the other deals as well: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/315414

    • +1

I'm not negging because it isn't a bargain (it isn't); I'm negging because this is blatant advertising of something at the RRP. I've given very few negative votes, and this one is very well deserved. I'm quite surprised it hasn't been taken down already, but by now its probably generated most of the advertising it needed to anyway.

      • +2

That's great and all but why haven't you negged EB games' post which has the exact same deal?

        • +1

Because they were put up by Ozbargain users - not the company selling the item. I think they probably belong in the forum, but I don't waste my time negging deals just because I don't agree with them or find them useful.

I am negging this because this is using the site to advertise and make money. That is not even taking into account that the first two user-posted deals are better value for money and were posted well before this deal.

This just opens the flood gates, and as someone else has noted does this mean that every time a new device is released that different shops can just come and use OzBargain as a marketing tool? Can't wait for the 7S posts, the Scorpio posts etc etc etc.

        • +1

          @DrC:
There aren't any rules which don't allow merchants to post deals here.

Furthermore, any store rep could easily get their relative/friend/coworker/stranger to post something for them and it'd be impossible to prove otherwise. So don't you think it makes more sense to vote based on a deal solely based on it's own merits?

And that is, they're both selling the same product for the same price.

        • +2

@DrC: For devil's argument sake, if OzB didn't allow "RRP" posts to begin with simply because it's a popular item, this store would never have the reason to "advertise" either. Fix the original problem and this "deal" and the hypothetical's for other products would never arise.

        • +1

@dufflover: I agree with that completely

    • +1.

  • +3

This is just blatant advertising - nothing else.

  • +4

Wait… what? So the EB SNES deals gets a whopping 364+ plus votes and no negs, and this one gets 76+ and 40 negs? It's literally the same non deal! Both are just RRP. How is one better than the other when they're both the same? Wake up sheeple!

    • Because you're paying upwards of $20 shipping for this and EB games was free pickup nationwide for quite a while.

    • I think I can summarise the 3 most common bane "deals" that for some reason get upvoted on OzB atm

      1. 75 cents off $100 when CR goes up a couple %
      2. 20% eBay store [cough] "sales" (granted that's a store seller issue)
      3. OzRRP

      :P

    • +1

Exactly. It's idiotic. I suspect it's people too afraid they'll be down voted in the eb thread so they find it easier to jump on an already existing bandwagon.

Gamesmen allows free pick-up as well.

  • Users are reminded to vote within the voting guidelines.

    mario

  • +8

I feel a bit indifferent to the fact that this post gets negged to oblivion (which is probably justified) but the other two don't. I don't believe there are specific rules to say that you should neg based on whether a rep posted the deal or not. I think all three posts should be consolidated into one thread and moved to the forums. That way the user can make an informed decision based on location, price and stock availability. The fact that the mods haven't done this already has me concerned.

    • +2

      I 100% agree

    • We don't combine deals from different stores and different posters (99.99% of the time). Don't be concerned.

      hadoken

      • +2

It wouldnt hurt in this scenario as all three are pretty much the same price (with the difference being delivery/click to collect). It will get rid of the crap storm that has occurred.

  • +1

The deal is not the cheapest available

  • +1

Typical for the gamesmen to try and boost sales on a high demand product. I don't rate these guys one bit. A couple months back when the Nintendo Switch Deluxe Travel Case was sold out at Big W at $25 the gamesmen had a pre-order page set up for $29.95. I didn't pre-order because I didn't know when they would receive stock. Once they received stock they bumped the price up to $34.95 and when I asked them why the price increased they said it was because it was in high demand so they had to put it up. Factor in shipping and you were almost paying double what Big W were charging. Not long after that they put it even higher at >$40.

  • +2

Indeed, this is a sales pitch only - RRP.
