  • Can it still be used for google play store on the long-life plan?

    • +3

As far as I know, it can be. I'm currently on Simplicity & rented a movie through google play the other day using Telstra credit.

    • +5

confirmed, can on long life. i just done it last night.
also telstra rep said, simplicity also can.
thats all. the rest, can not

      • tytyty, now I can finally buy my long awaited emulators and some theming apps that i've downloaded uhhh legally….

  • can buy multiples?
Sorry, the pre-paid mobile shop is misbehaving
Sorry, the pre-paid mobile shop is misbehaving. Our online team is on the case. Please try again later or find your nearest Telstra store.

is this also on telstra store?

    • I think this is an online only offer. Last time it was one per customer.

  • "Sorry, manic
There was a connectivity issue while processing your request and we can't confirm if the payment was made. Please check your bank/credit card statement to see if the payment was processed."

    ???

  • Telstra customer service told me last month couldn't port existing number to starter kit anymore.

    • Hmm. if that's the case, it's only good for Google credits.

  • Would this be the cheapest way to get google play credit?

    • not the cheapest ever.
record was like $1 for $30 pack, after you spend $30 worth of groceries in woolworths

      • Thanks, I wasn't talking historical. I need to have Google Play Credit as I am considering subscribing to a service that takes it from iTunes or google play credit and I wanted to save as much money as possible.

        • yeah 50% off is good enough - i bought one too

        • @dragonindespair: I presume that they expire after a while so I would only be able to pay for 1 months per sim?. I need about $8.50 per month.
So would I just but this one $10 Telstra Pre-Paid Plus SIM Starter Kit (Mobiles)? and then lose $1.50 per month?

        • @techboy: You could buy the $30 starter kit & activate it on Long Life, which would give you 6 months to use the $30 credit.

        • @techboy: if you activate under long life you get 6 months i think
so you get buy the 30$.
and, the good part is, you can transfer credit between prepaid (with 25c fee)
so you get 2 x $30 packs, use one first until $3 left for example then transfer $2.75 to the second pack
second pack will be $32.75 in credit
          and so on.
          just watch the expiry date

        • @headphonejack: Sounds like a cunning plan. Are you sure that you can do that?

        • @techboy: Very sure. I'm living proof. Also, the expiry dates on these are usually pretty good, the last lot I bought from April had activation expiry of October 2018.

        • @techboy: can do.. just done it 2 days ago

        • @dragonindespair: So (1) buy 2 x $30 ones. (2) Activate one under long life and then use google play credit $8.50 x 3 = $25.50 (3 months), (3) Activate 2nd sim under long life and transfer remaining credit $4.50 - 25c to new sim giving me $34.25 giving me another 4 months…? SO 7 months of $8.50 subscription for $30?
So even though it says to be used within 28 days that is just the data?, you can still activate it for long life etc.

        • +1

@techboy: don't worry just make sure you choose/activate under ling life plan. We won't be using data or call credit anyway. All goes to google store.

And beware turn off your mobile data, long life plan rate is expensive.

Hint use Wifi and spare phone.

        • @techboy: You don't get any data with the long life plan. Activate your $30 kit under long life, then change to Simplicity straight away as per gwandana's comment. You will then have 6 months to use the $30 credit & any phone calls you make will only cost 15c per minute. Turn off mobile data, but also make sure the phone is only set to 3G network (not 4G), as this can incur data charges. I found out the hard way.

        • @headphonejack: Thanks will try with one pack of $30 for $15. I presume that these deals come up every few months?

        • @techboy: Usually every few months.

        • @headphonejack: Thanks Bought one. Do they have to be activated by a certain date?. Because if the offer runs out 7th July I may buy the second one then.

        • @techboy: The activation expiry date will be on the back of the starter kit when you receive it. The packs I purchased in April had an activation expiry of October 2018, so this lot should be the same or better.

        • +1

@headphonejack: Thanks vey much for your help. Just got a call from the bank wanting to know if I made the purchase…..First time ever…

        • @headphonejack: Once activated can I just remove the sim if I just want it for google play?

        • @techboy: Remove the sim? I'm not quite sure what you mean. You can put the sim in any device you like, just make sure it's an android device to be able to make purchases from Google Play.

        • @headphonejack: I only want to use the google credit. Therefore I don't want to use the sim as a sim. If I remove it I can't accidentally get charged anything. So when it deducts the credit it then checks to see if it is in a n android device presently?

        • @techboy: The first time you select 'Use Telstra Billing' as the option for payment through google play, it will usually send a verification SMS to check the sim in the device you are currently using. But you can certainly remove the sim when you're not making google play purchases. However, you will probably have to put the sim back in the device for future purchases.

        • @techboy: yeah thats why i said better to use spare phone, put the sim there when you need to purchase google store contents

        • @dragonindespair: Thanks got so many spare phones, probably choose an older one which may be limited to 3G?

        • @techboy: doesn't matter, turn off mobile. Look man if you activated under ling life, data would eat your $30 so quick. If you need it for google store. Turn off mobile connect to Wifi when doing purchases.

        • +1

@headphonejack: You don't even have to use the same phone once Telstra billing has been enabled. I've been able to use my Nexus 7 with wifi to buy stuff with Telstra billing.

  • +1

You can also switch to Simplicity from Long life for cheaper calls and to buy rather expensive data packs.

Thanks for heads up OP, 2 on the way :)

  • It says for Tablets. Simplicity and long life plans are for mobiles. Or does it matter?

    • +2

Despite the name the tablet starter kit works for mobiles.

  • Looks like in Oz you still cant use carrier billing as an option for paying for google drive storage?
(I just had a look and carrier billing doesn't come up as an option).
    Damn

  • Better than what's been available from Telstra or stackable for the past year, bought one

  • +1

    received ! exp 30 oct 2018
    yes 2018

    hmm should i buy more….
tbh, this is stupid to make it online only. whats wrong with them. put them in the shop, save millions in delivery cost.

  • +2

I got them price beat at Officeworks. Thanks OP.

    • oh damn! didnt think of that.

this is one of the reason why i want pricematch considered as deal. in fact, very important deal~

      • Well it's not a deal in it's own right, it relies on Telstra's discount. OP could be updated with price beat details though. $14.25 ea. Officeworks stock both types and their online stock check is reasonably accurate. Mine also had expiries in Oct 2018.

        • got two as well from OW. $28.50 for two.

  • i placed another order this morning 10am, looks like they are attempting same day delivery, got notification will arrive at 2pm. let see

  • This use to be good for $5.00 a pop, but $15.00 not so, so if you go on long life you cannot use data and cost 15c a minute to make a call, scratching my head, wouldn't you be better off with Truphone?, 9c a minute, no contracts expiry etc, call uk, usa, etc etc for 9c a minute and back to oz same, many other countries, no way am I affiliated with them, now just on 2 years, happy as pig in mud, only downfall is data 9c per meg.

Half price Google Play credit with 6 months expiry.

  • looking for a confirmation - will this pack allow me to port a optus munber over to telstra??

    • Yes it will, I actually did just that a couple of days ago!

  • +1

Thanks OP, stocking up on the $10 kits with 6gb of data, great deal

  • When you activate 1 sim and buy another sim do you have to port sim 1 number to sim 2 to transfer credit remaining on sim 1?
I will runout of credit for google play store in 4 months.

    • You can use creditme2u to transfer the credit between sim cards. It costs you 25cents per transfer (betweeen $1 - $10 at a time), so once you've activated sim 2, you can transfer any remaining credit on sim 1 over to sim 2 via creditme2u.

      • +1

Thank you, so the answer is NO you don't need to port the old number over, the credit from sim #1 will transfer to sim #2 regardless of having the same phone number.
Is the creditme2u available on the web from a computer or do you have to use a mobile device?

        • I think you have to use a mobile device with the sim (to transfer credit from) inserted to be able to use creditme2u.

        • +1

@headphonejack: Thanks - I noticed that the link says use the mobile version of the link (which will not work on a computer) as it can not see any service attached.
