  • How is the battery life on these. I heard they are pretty bad of course there is quick charge though

    • It's the same as with all android phones: battery life is pretty good right up until the point where an app (Google Play Services, Facebook Messenger, Runkeeper, "Android System") perplexingly decides to suck your battery life at 5-10x the normal rate and you're left with a flat battery half-way through the day.

The battery life on these devices certainly isn't below par though - on most days a light user should have 50%+ left and it should last a heavy user to bed time.

      • Is there any way to force stop on Google Play services?

    • You heard battery life is bad? I get 3 - 4 hours SOT over 24 hours, mixed use with 50% battery remaining (i recharge at 40 - 50% remaining) on my S8+.

    • +2

I have had my S8+ for about a week now and I have found the battery to be really good! Compared to my previous phone (Note 4, 2+ years old)

      • +1

Agreed. I upgraded from S4 a few weeks ago and loving the battery life on S8+ so far.

    • +3

They are actually great. I have the S8+ and its great in all regards. I have both the S8+ and the iPhone 7 plus on a daily basis (don't envy my pocket) and the S8+ so easily outlasts the iPhone.

    • battery being used in this phone is the same as the last few samsung batteries

There's no miracle battery tech thats happenned in the last 5 years that would give you some magical 1-2day battery life

ALl thats changed is the CPU sucks less power each year and they change the capacity of the battery they can squeeze in by downsizing other components to make space
the screen is AMOLED so drains less than LCD ones and the apps get optimised with every upgrade

so naturally, battery life will get marginally better each year.

Also samsung now includes pretty good battery management software that kills or lets you limit background running process that drain battery life and give you pretty acurate estimates

So all in all this is a pretty asinine question

If your definition is how long the battery lasts with casual browsing/use and idling, then more than 24 hrs easily is the answer

If you want to know how long i can watch a video or play candy crush for. then roughly 4 hrs tops like every smartphone in the last 4 years

      • Pretty asinine response to the OP. 4 hours of video playback? You're not even close.

    • I get 5 hours SOT consistently no matter what I do.

    • Bought the S8+ recently. I easily get 6 hours SOT if I let it get drain to 10%.

Finishing the working day at 60-70% battery life is a great result for me.

    • I actually get pretty good battery life from my s8. On any given day, I watch movies 1 HR each way to and from work, bluetooth to headphones, mobile hotspot during the day for work and general use. I'd say I'm a pretty heavy user and I can get to about 9 pm and be at 15%. In comparison, my nexus 6p was only able to get me to 2 PM before it was at 15%.

Still not where I'd like it to be but by all standards, it's pretty good battery life. The phone as well is great, only real quirk I have with it is the location of the speaker. But slight hand adjustments and it's fine.

  • My wife's got one, pretty decent battery life as it last for a day. Other than that its a very nice size for the PLUS.

If you can wait….they will have a new note 8 announcement/release in a few months not sure what its going to be but since you are already willing to invest $1k…..an extra hundred or two will not harm getting the best and greatest of the new phone tech.

Since how nokia phones have evolved in past, the coming of dual fold-able phones is not too far away if screen size matters.

love those spring pop up phones…..bring it back!Hello Neo welcome back~~~

  • Man.. i've been trying to get this deal because i missed out the other day and i felt so crap. Thank you so much! Just bought one!

  • +3

What a deal. Add that to TRS and cash rewards it comes to $857 for the s8 really good!

    • +1

      Quick. Book a flight ;-)

    • You actually should get the tax back and cash rewards on $1199, so even further. ~$835.

      • Don't know how you work that out. You only get tax back on what you actually paid.

        • +2

Nope you get tax back on the tax invoice amount, which is $1199 according to TGG cause that's what it was worth before the coupon.

        • -3

@doweyy: You obviously have no idea what a Tax Invoice is.

        • +7

          @basilv:

Haha I'm an accountant. I've done it before so don't even bother, works on any ebay purchase which uses a coupon. The Tax Invoice shows what they receive, which in this case is $1199 because eBay supplements the rest and charges them ~10% more in fees at month end. Example Here

        • @doweyy is correct. This is how TGG send out invoices for ebay deals. I've got gst back on the full amount for quite a few items as the invoice always includes the full price before coupon.

        • @doweyy: Weird that that's how they do it. Didn't realise eBay was supplementing.

I'm guessing it's somehow fraudulent to claim the full amount though.. at least it should be…

        • @doweyy: You get GST amount back on the invoice amount, which in this case is $1199/11 = $109. Subtract that from the amount you paid - $959.20 and you get $850.20.

          Not $835.

        • +1

          @evolution-flip:

If you read what I wrote you would realise that I said TRS + CR, so yes ~$835.

        • -1

@doweyy: missed that. Not a fan of cash rewards anyway.

        • +2

@evolution-flip: yeah, the cash you get back is the worst!

        • +1

@evolution-flip: I hate free money too.

        • @thisispants: if you get it, that is.

        • Just confirming I got my TGG invoice - $1,199 :)

        • @basilv:

          Awesome, told you :)

      • How would you work that out on the PLUS? CR on the original amount too?

        • Yep, CR would be 1.3% x $1199.

        • @doweyy: The PLUS is 926.56 with TRS or $1061.46 without TRS.

        • @D6C1:

Oh sorry, didn't see the plus bit. I'm at work so I can't calculate it ATM.

    • Do you need to keep the phone in the sealed box to claim back at the TRS counter?

      • +1

        No

      • +1

        no

        • Nope. I have claimed a laptop and phone before. Phone in my pocket. Laptop in my knapsack.

        • @ranagade: I take it the idea is that your giving it to a friend overseas?

        • +2

@F-22: The idea is to not bring it back into the country.

        • +1

@MrDerrickC: I also suggest using the TRS app and entering all the refund details prior to going to the airport. There is a separate TRS app queue and it is much faster in processing refunds.

        • @ranagade: Do you still have to show the phone if you using TRS app?

        • @Chopel: yep. So makes things quicker with a separate lane, at Melbourne atleast..

This is too early for me to claim. TRS :( flight is on the 3rd of September

    • TRS within 60 days?

      • +2

        Yes

        • Thanks. I'm tempted.

  • So tempted…

  • $949 at Kogan - is that a grey import there? What makes this one more attractive? Better returns policy etc.?

    • well, i ended up buying it anyway. obviously a stupid question due to the downvotes. thanks for the deal!

    • [Deleted]

    • +1

There's only an advantage buying local stock if you have a problem with it. I bought grey import note 5 when it was released and luckily no problems which means no disadvantage for me.

      • thanks! :)

    • +3

I spoke to a consultant at the Samsung store in Southland VIC and he told me that the Australian versions have a triangle with a tick at the back bottom of the phone casing. This means any samsung store would service it for 2 years.

If it does not have the tick, they would still look at it but there would be a blurred line for warranty here.

      Just an FYI :)

      • +2

Got my S8+ from The Good Guys a few weeks back during an ebay sale, it has the triangle with the tick in it.

I purchased locally as I didn't want to deal with potential warranty issues in the future. After the problems I had with my Nexus 6P boot looping, there's no chance I would spend this much on a phone and not have a local warranty.

  • To confirm the 2 years samsung warranty applies to this deal as its from their recommend retailer TGG?

    • 6 months warranty on battery that's for sure

      • Product - Batteries
        Warranty Period In-Box - 24 Months (Embedded)
        Warranty Period Out-Box - 12 Months

thats from samsung site not sure what outbox means

        • +3

You keep the phone in the box during your ownership, warranty is 24 months. You take it out, 12 months.

    • i rang before and they said 1 year for my note 4 battery, and these unibody one should be 2 years warranty :D
that's the only reason I get AU stock…

  • Just brought it, anyone know why we had to pay through Paypal but couldnt use card details?

  • Is this S8+ dual SIM ?

    • No, that was never released locally.

  • Got a call that my order is ready for collection.

  • sadly not for me the. I am after dual SIM

  • +2

I purchased an S8+ a few weeks back from TGG during a 15% off sale. Picked it up in store the day after ordering and so far I've been really enjoying it. I was a bit worried coming from a history of Nexus devices (4,5 6 and 6P) but it's a very nice device to use. I've been getting excellent battery life from it, I go to sleep with about 40-60% left on the battery, my cousin has the smaller S8 and he seems to complain about the battery life on that though. The screen is gorgeous and once you're used to the 18.5:9 aspect ratio, using a normal 16:9 phone feels boxy and weird. The camera is very good too! Imo it's the best all round Android flagship phone available at the moment, it seems to just do everything well. I highly recommend!

  • There was no pickup available in WA. settled for delivered.

    • Has yours been sent? I'm still waiting for mine to be marked sent.

      • I called them this morning (WA Store). Good Guys have no stock Australia wide (as far as their computer system could tell). So they were going to get in touch with Samsung AU for stock.

I'd say 2 weeks at least.

        • That's interesting cause it says more than 10 available on ebay. And click and collect locations says in stock. Hmm. In QLD at least

        • Any update on yours? Mines still on back order…

        • @Richipoo: I called them yesterday and no stock yet from Samsung. The guy said to wait at least another week. Funnily enough according to their system they were expecting a delivery on Monday but looks like that was just a default estimate.

        • @Richipoo: Mine is getting shipped this week. Have you heard from your local store?

  • Wasn't there a version with 6Gb of ram rather than the 4Gb on this one?

    • +1

Yep and 128gb not available in Australia, I think it was only Korea market and a couple other around them.

  • +1

Quick before they remove it. 8 hours and 44 mins ago :D

  • are these network locked or can i use any sim? sorry had a look but couldn't it find anywhere in moments or on the GG site.

    • +1

      These are unlocked versions.

  • to buy or not to buy!?

  • Can anyone recommend a slim case that provides some level of drop protection?

    • Check UAG cases one of the best of not best available.

  • Anyone got click and collect confirmation?

    • Yes, around 1hr after purchase.

  • S8 or S8+, which one to buy, which is best value & ergonomic to use?

    • Same specs, except 8+ battery is 3500mah vs 3000mah in the 8. Samsung store was good, because they had phones on cords to hold side by side, unlike Optus shop that has then rigidly stuck to a stand. I found the 8 more comfortable to hold and reach everything one handed. They're both the same resolution, so 8+ has slightly less pixel density, as the pixels are spaced slightly further apart to fill the bigger screen. However 8+ allows for more screen real estate, so better for multi window tasks and browsing. I compared YouTube 4K side by side, and found objects easier to make out on the 8+. So for me I went the 8+, as I use phone mostly for media and surfing; and can cope with larger size. Best value comes down to personal preference on the above.

  • Thanks! Bought 2 S8+ to replace a Xiaomi and Samsung Note 3. Couldn't get the gold through C+C so had to get both delivered.. Still waiting for it to be sent.

  • Picked it up earlier. Very happy with the s8+ so far :)

  • Just pulled the trigger on the S8! Now going to wait for cashback and hoping to claim TRS on a flight to NZ this month :)

    • that's if you receive it this month :(

      • What do you mean? I opted to get it delivered and I got it 3 business days after I ordered it! Also got Cashback pending on the purchase and crossing my fingers for a short line at TRS next week for a further ~$100 back :)

        • Download the TRS app and pre fill the details then you will have a separate queue for people using the app and always empty atleast Melbourne Airport

        • Cheers, Yep I've done it via the app as I read it saved time. Lets hope the Sydney queue for the app is just as empty as Melb!

        • lucky you. I called my local and they ran out of stock on the day and still waiting on Samsung to deliver.

  • +1

Anyone elses order still on backorder for the 8 plus??

    • Update: looks like they're getting shipped this week
