This is an awesome offer. Same as the promo last year which allows you to sign up for Optus perks and last year was epl as well.

Sorry to sound ignorant, what kind of perks and what is EPL? Thanks

      • +3

        English Premier League subscription.

Check out the Optus Perks website https://www.optusperks.com.au/

A favourite perk is discounted Hoyts movie tickets

EPL is English Premier League - football in the UK. It's part of Optus' offering (at an extra cost I think)

No EPL this year though, apparently.

      • Who has the EPL rights then?

        • Still Optus, they signed Three years contract i believe.

        • i had issues last time i try to get EPL, they said some bs which i forgot and didnt work for prepaid

Be warned though - you can no longer activate $2 Optus SIMs without adding credit at the time of activation. You must recharge when using these SIMs.

I just elected for the My Prepaid Long Expiry and just left it there. Works fine.

whats the longest you can leave it (and take advantage of being a perks member), without topping up credit?

        • it says in the info pdf you must recharge before 188 days (in the Service Expiry section)

      • Does that working for porting a number or new activation only? I tried porting to $2 optus sim temporarily so i could port back to Kogan for the $1 14GB sim offer, but all options required me to add credit to the account?

    • That's not entirely accurate. Certainly they've made it harder, but it has to be still possibly because I activated one on the 25th

      • What do you all do with these free SIM cards..?

  • +2

    Awesome, free uber rides :)

    • How do you get free uber with this…?

        Woooshhh!

        • +3

Woooshhh! me all you like but I don't get it either

        • +3

@slipperypete: Uber account tied to phone number. New phone number, new Uber account, can then use the myriad of first ride only vouchers.

          @eediot:

Generally when someone goes whoooshhh it relates to missing the subtleties of a joke punchline which goes over their head…not an item of unknown knowledge

Thanks eediot, appreciate you taking the time to explain

  • Yeah I noticed that, is there another way to activate them?

I just elected for the My Prepaid Long Expiry and just left it there. Works fine.

Just wondering, is the mobile number required on registration just for contact purposes (rather than porting)?

    • Good questions…

    • I am sure it is just for contact purposes.

Identification would be required for porting.

  • Wonder if anybody from the last deal ie 25% Family & Friends discount through optus staffs; manage to share data between devices?

Intrigued by this… can't see clearly how it works. Can anyone explain? i.e. free Uber rides - you have a new number sure but don't you need to swap sims to order your Uber, missing calls in the meantime? I started getting free sim cards from Telstra and Optus (because… OzBargain!) but haven't ever done anything with them…. What am I missing? Many thanks fellow OzBargainers for tips here :)

Probably best for those phones that have dual sim card slots, that way you can drop a new sim in the 2nd slot, use it for like the free uber credit etc and then change as you need.

Will startrack need signature on delivery?

    • left in letterbox this morning.

    • +2

Can confirm its ATL (Authority to Leave) which means they leave in letterbox. My postman didn't bother knocking door or ringing door bell.

  • Great find OP :) Does anybody know if you can add one of these sims into an existing Optus group of sims that are sharing a big block of data on one account? Want to add one more modem to the data share group, thanks

    • I'm not sure but if you really want to know, you could contact live chat ;)

      • Well now, that's way too logical :)

    • +1

Pretty sure data pooling is only for postpaid accounts. Happy to be corrected.

Does anyone know the expiry on these SIMs if you don't recharge?

    • 1/2/19 on mine delivered this morning.

    • just got mine June 2019

  • +1

Yes wondering about that as well. I have a few unactivated Optus sims bought a year or so ago.

    • The SIM's I try to activiate online always have some sort of error. It's def not expired or used ???

  • Delivered in Brisbane - left in letterbox this morning by Startrack.

    • Can confirm I got mine in Canberra. Unusual that I got 2 though, only 1 per customer, not complaining :)

      • Me too got two SIMs in two different packages under two different order numbers. Looks like glitch in their system.

        • Yeah I got them in different packages also.

  • Anyone know where I can find a cheap usb modem? I have data sim for my iPad but would like to use it a USB Modem for a week.

    • I just used an old device and used it as a hotspot when I had no wifi at my new house.

  • What am I meant to do with a SIM with no number? I'm new

    • I'm guessing it includes a number but doesnt include recharge so you'll have a number to receive calls but no credit for outgoing. I'm new to this too :)

      • It still doesn't fully make sense to me however. Hmmmm!

a lot of apps or services have first time sign up bonus or discounts.
e.g. GYG burritos, uber, uberEats, menulog etc. etc. etc.
and they are based on unique phone numbers.
