  • Any chance of price reduction for the ir version? I got two of this and in need for the ir function.

    • What's the ir like? help you see at night?? Curious

      • +1

We cant see IR in our naked eye. It's useful for security camera during night time.

        • +1

haha face palm my bad, obviously. Thanks for the reply.

    • +1

Hi, LIFX is currently running a sale for 20% off the LIFX+ model which ends on the 8th of July.

  • Thanks, bought one a while back, and it has been awesome. Been waiting for it to go a bit cheaper.

  • +2

One "unrelated" remark: The product itself is great but the software and setup a RUBISH!! I have set up and used plenty of gadgets, consoles etc. (Just recently my new Mi Vacuum together with the Mi Webcam). But I have never gone trough anything as painful and frustrating as with these bulbs!! Solid product and once it is setup is good- but getting there is a PAIN!!

I know this does not have anything to do with the deal itself…

    • Anything in particular happen or not happen for you?

I set up my first LIFX last week and didn't have any problems; installed the app, turned the light on and they connected and off it went.

    • +2

We have three lights set up to come on each morning with a schedule. At least one fails to come on each morning and it's not always the same one. I like the bulbs but the software is really frustrating. They also need to make a LIFX switch so that someone can't power them off at the wall.

      • If you put tape over your existing light switch, it will prevent people turning it off at the wall.
That's what I did for my 2 year old.

        • +5

Your 2 year old is really tall.

        • @m9: No, just really good at climbing.

        • Good plan except my wife would just remove the tape and turn it off anyway!

        • +1

@grumpybum: Try taping a smartphone running the lifx app to the light-switch then.

      • I've been looking at something like this to replace switches with LIFX bulbs attached, but

        • I'd like something that's less permanent
        • Light switches are horizontal (ie 'landscape' orientation), whereas all the key switches I found so far are vertical
        • I know sfa about electrical stuff
    • stokesy77: The software (IMHO) is not up yo standard for 2017. I have two of the bulbs (one failed a couple of days after I first received them and was changed out no questions asked- which was great from the ebay seller) . I have must have reset them about 1000 times now and reinstalled the app just as often. As I said I do have everything at home from Mi Vaccum over Telstra TV Box and Chrome cast to Xbox one and PC. Not one single item has any network issues what so ever. One bulb (which is right over the TV on which I watch Netflix with Chrome cast in FHD, so network can not be the issue) fails to connect the network 99% of the time. I reset them, find them both, add them both. One shows up in as in the room the other one just in my network but as offline. I can switch it on and off via the app but I can not move it to the other group as it claims to be offline (so also can not add it to the cloud). Every other time I reinstall the app I end up accessing both but in "Guest mode" as apparently they have been claimed by someone else… and so on and so forth. FRUSTRATING and not what I expect from such a product at this price in 2017. Installing my MI camera (in Chinese) was simpler. I have just tried it again before (inspired by this post). Now I have once again one linked to my bedroom and one to my network "offline". Also every time you connect them I get the message: "Onboarding light with legacy firmware(though I believe I have updated the firmware about 1 million times). - Please turn off, then on to finish onboarding process… What kind of English is that and what am I supposed to turn on and off exactly (I assume the light) . Every time I open the app I get the message to update firmware (see above) which than takes about 10-15 minutes (I have about 50 MB/sec download speed). Just for the message to appear almost certainly next time I open the app. Would be find for some $10 Chinese crap. But not at this price point… I hope this gives you an idea ;-)

      • +1

Sounds like your firmware updates might have failed.
I had some weird issues like that temporarily with 1 out of 3 lights, when trying to upgrade firmware.
Check what version is actually installed and compare to: https://www.lifx.com/pages/updates

        • +1

Thanks Damion, I have a look into this later. But this is exactly my point. For a product with this price tag I do not want to have to check firmware versions, keep resetting etc. . Maybe I am just expecting to much but at this price I would expect plug and play…I consider myself quite firm (no pun intended ;-) ) when it comes to these kind of gadgets. I' d hate to think what it would be like for anyone not so "sophisticated" with these kind of things- if you know what I mean.

        • Could not wait till later ;-) . So the one without any issues show as 2.1 , the one with the problem as 2.0 - this is after having (once again) run the firmware update.

        • +1

          @BlueDiesel:
Have you tried the Roost smart batteries? They're configured via the app using your phone's speaker! Reverb, echos and background noises all make that fail!

It seems today most products are delivered in Beta stage, and many stay that way forever :(

        • @BlueDiesel:
An IoT device that DOESN'T have regular software updates is at high risk of security issues. If you want things that connect to the internet you need to take this into account.

        • @wizzfizz: I fully agree (though do fail to see the security risks with someone hacking into my light bulbs ;-) ).

But it can or better should be a smooth and easy process/experience . One that either happens fully in the background or just requires one simple confirmation. And this has simply not been the case for me as I tried to explain above. If it is just me being extremely unlucky or uncapable is different matter. But the point is that my experience with the setup of this product has been extermly unsatisfying and (based on my personal experience) I would not recommend it to anyone else.

        • @wizzfizz: You make it sound like it's impossible to have a device actually secured and that the 'regular' updates are all security related. In general I usually read update notes thinking 'what flaw are they introducing now'.

        • @wizzfizz: they're a light bulb ffs. If they get hacked into, it means you've got bigger problems to worry about. Just make it work please!

I have 2 lifx bulbs, one for my bedroom and 1 for my baby's room. They work 95% of the time. Not perfect, but good enough as a novelty item.

I won't put it anywhere where a small ladder won't be able to reach for a hard reset though.

      • Definitely something wrong specifically for you. I have had 4 of them for over a year. Have also moved houses. Works perfect.

    • No issues at all with our LIFX bulbs.

  • I bought a couple of these a little over a week ago. Cool for the novelty but they don't really get bright enough to light a bedroom. It claims to be about as powerful as a 75w bulb but my standard 75w bulbs outshine these when they are set at 100% bright white. Still fun to use though.

    • +2

if you just want brightness - try the phillips 1400 LM bulbs for 7 bucks, put a few around the house. soo bright!

Or $15 if you don't have a time machine.

        • Haha, nice!

    • I don't know what you're smokin, but these are bright AF. My 1000's are TOO bright on 100%

  • +2

Hey rep any chance of a code for the z strip

    • +2

Hey, there is currently no discount codes for the LIFX Z but I'll be sure to let you guys know if any come up.

      • GU10. guys you had one of these models at one point then you don't anymore. Your competitors do.

Your stock reply here to requests about GU10 has been 'keep an eye out for announcements' but nothing comes. I can't see why you can not advise if a GU10 is coming or not … its a different fitting it won't stop people buying your other bulbs on the contrary it would encourage them to do so seeing as you are giving more options.

I'm struggling to think why I don't sell my current Lifx and get a whole new set from another 'smart Light' source because they have GU10s and I can have my whole house on one system.

        • Hi, Unfortunately, we can only announce products once they have been officially released through our newsletter. I know you have heard it already, but I would highly recommend staying tuned to the newsletter as the 'wheels' are already in motion.

  • +1

My annoyance is that the B22 models always seem to be sold out. Would be super @Jonathanweatherall if they could improve stock on the lights with the bayonet cap.

    • There's a guy on ebay selling 4 B22 bulbs because he just moved house!
      Damn Edison.

    • @thewinchester1 If you check out our LIFX A19 B22 model, you will find we are well stocked. The Colour 1000 is an older model that has been discontinued so we only have existing stock left which happens to only be E27.

  • Why can't we get the Lifx+ BR30 (Cheaper one) without the IR like the USA ? I need an outdoor bulb but i dont need the IR

    • We are always looking to bring LIFX is all kinds of fittings to meet the demand. BR30 lights are traditionally more popular in the US so our initial roll out was only in the E26 fitting.

We saw that there was a demand for outdoor rated lights in other regions so we brought the LIFX+ BR30 over as most security cameras are for outdoor use.

If the LIFX BR30 model comes out with the B22 and E27 fittings, we will definitely be vocal about it :)

  • I love the bulbs and have 7 but still getting some intermittent drop-outs of different bulbs every 1-2 weeks… LIFX have responded to my query stating that a software release is imminent… can the rep give us any update on this? Cheers

    • Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you've had drop-outs. I would recommend that you reply on your ticket asking for an update as Taber (I presume he's the one you talked with) will have more information than me.

      • I just got a 1000 from the previous deal a couple of weeks ago and its drop-outs was so high to the extent that the light is almost unusable. It also came with other weird problems like the firmware update keeps failing halfway and the light flickers once in a while. While I got an original running in the same network with almost identical config without any problem.

So my guess is perhaps there are some quality control issues with the bulbs (at least the 1000)? That said, I am very pleased with the superb customer service and already received my replacement bulb which worked perfectly. Will definitely recommend to my friends:)

I bought one the other week and loved it after figuring out how to get it all setup with my fidgety network. Last Friday I bought 2 more to finish off the kitchen (only place that uses E27) which arrived today. Just finished installing and updating them a few minutes ago. The kitchen is now the hap place to be in my house!

  • How do the lifx compare with yeelight?
I've got a couple of yeelights that drop out from the Android app from time to time. When that happens, instructions can take up to a minute to be received. However, I don't expect a totally trouble free experience for a cheap Chinese import at the yeelight price point.
I have been considering switching to lifx for better reliability, better brightness etc.
Is anyone that's used both yeelight and lifx happy to comment on how they've found they compare in practice?

  • +2

I wish I could sell my color lifx bulbs and get Philips Hue instead. I know they cost twice as much and need a home base, but it'd be worth it for Siri control. I know there's Homebridge but I don't have a spare Mac I can leave running just for Homebridge 24 hours. I like the light from the bulbs, but everything else has been a pain. Wish I paid twice as much for Philips with voice control on iOS. And that's coming from a very frugal person who intuitively thought that Philips Hue was for suckers and LIFX was for really smart frugal people.

    • +1

At WWDC Apple announced some changes to HomeKit that should allow manufacturers like LIFX to add functionality without much fuss. Hopefully this will come sooner than later from LIFX!

      • +2

I hope so, because I can't afford a new set of lightbulbs.

  • Hey there,

Can someone please confirm if lifx color 1000 are controllable via google home?

    Thanks

    • +2

      They are yes

      • Thank you so much :) ordered 4 :)

  • No (b22) bayonet in stock.

  • Any mr16 type globes?

  • Hey op and owners of Lifx,
Can I check if I am able to control this when I am at work on my 3G? Or must I be connected to the same WiFi at home to control the lights?

    • Control over 3G 👍

  • I just realised the coupon code didn't apply to my order. Any possibility of a refund, or credit of the difference if I order more in the future?

    • Hi, Please send through an email to [email protected] and provide your LIFX order number and I'll refund the difference.

      • Refund is being processed. Thank you!

  • Hoping to get one question answered regarding these bulbs; if they're turned off, physically at the switch, when turned back on, do they retain their previously set colour/temp (i.e. setting before turning off), or does it return to a default setting (and if it does, can the default be changed)?

    • +2

      3 options:
      1) turn back on normally, and it will retain the previous setting
      2) turn back on with a double-switch, and it will go to full brightness white (or is it 80%?)
      3) turn back on with a triple switch with a pause, and it resets everything and you have to re-configure it back onto the wifi.

I've always found option 2 difficult, and my children find option 3 really easy >:|
