[Flybuys] up to 50,000 BONUS POINTS - Join Medibank by August 31st 2017

90
flybuys

This promotion appears to be a continuation of the previous one which ended on June 30th, albeit not as generous but represents better value (25% more points earn) than the current AHM promotion.

As indicated in the title, by linking your Flybuys account to Medibank to earn bonus points per the following tiers:

Hospital + Extras Hospital Only Extras Only
Families/Couples/Single Parents 50,000 25,000 12,500
Singles 25,000 12,500 6,250

Standard T&Cs apply, you must maintain a membership with Medibank for 6 months in order to receive the points. AHM used to be 90 days but appear to have increased to 6 months as well.

As always, shop around & make sure the points earn is not offset by higher premiums, individual circumstances will obviously differ, therefore it's impossible to say if this deal will suit everyone.

  • Anyone who values loyalty membership points should watch last episode of The Checkout - real eye opener.

As a keen Checkout watcher I was pretty annoyed at that segment. Yes, if you use points for gift cards or appliances and other tangible things, the value is pretty shocking. If you use loyalty programs to redeem for business and first class flights then the value is fannntastic!

      • They did do a flight example using FlyBuys, I don't remember exactly but points needed was astronomical when earned using Coles supermarket purchases - the mainstay of FlyBuys - whose customers are unlikely to be redeeming for business and first class flights.
There is greater than none value in points (as indeed they pointed out at end of segment) but the real value of loyalty is for the company, not consumer.

I see it as every purchase contributing towards free airfares/holidays (I try to get away at least twice per year) - yes they build a pretty accurate profile of you as a consumer, that is a definite downside - but if you can double dip on points by earning Flybuys and then paying with Amex your earn:spend ratio goes up. Combine that with petrol purchases, churning through credit card providers to obtain sign on bonuses, and loyalty offers like the one in this deal (I got 10k from AHM after 3 months, will likely change again) and rewards, especially Velocity, come a lot quicker.

You gotta be an active member for 6 months before you get the points

    • Yes mate, that was mentioned in the OP from the outset.

  • Only if they had offer on medicare levy

  • Save your sanity and stay away from Medibank at all costs. Cannot count the hours I have lost to be told I would get something in the post or a call back, to no avail, only to go it through it all over again and again. One year on….still waiting. You will never get back the hours upon hours spent on the phone chasing them for simple things like statements. Dread to think what would happen if a substantial claim was actually required.
