Bosch Drill/Driver Combo $150 @ Bunnings, Singleton NSW 2330. Clearance Sale

180

Don't know model/kit number. Just saw it on my way past and remember all the whiners last time an Ozito deal was posted. Bosch this, DeWalt that, rah rah… Well, here is your chance to buy some Bosch tools to impress your mates with dark green power tools with red lettering…

From what I could gather at a glance, these come with a drill, a driver, 2 batteries (18v Li Ion 1.5Ah, meh… probable work better with a crank handle.) a charger and a cardboard box with Bosch on it, in dark green. They appear to be brushed motors, so I know the comments will be filled with "that's garbage, I only buy brushless" comments.

Also appear as no band 28, 0 RAM and 0 Storage. Maybe a no deal for some?

If only these ran on eneloops…

ok newbie question here but what's the difference between brush and brushless?

    • Have a read of this. It will give you some idea on the difference…

      Brushed vs brushless power tools…

    • +1

One has a brush and the other is brushless.

Brushless senses and adjusts the power depending on demand, so it improves battery life (and also works better due to no friction).

One with a brush will always be at full power which will drain the battery faster.

      ok a motor works thusly:

When current passes through a winding it induces a magnetic field which pushes against the field of a permanent magnet, the motor rotates to the next position and the next winding is energised, creating a new magnetic field and giving another push against the permanent magnet. With each push the motor rotates a little, a new winding is energised, creating another little push etc..

In a brushed motor a set of "brushes" touch the windings as they rotate into contact and energise them. This is a cheap but inefficient way to ensure the right winding gets the push at the right time. But these motors are less efficient, the "brushes" wear out over time. they can create a lot of electromagnetic noise and in poor condition can spark.

Brushless motors use some kind of commutating device (like an optical encoder) with a circuit board triggering the magnetic field instead of having brushes making contact with the rotor. In brushed motors the windings are on the rotating part of the motor (the rotor) and the magnets are stationary on the outside (the stator). In brushless motors this is reversed.

Brushless motors have lower maintenance (no brushes to replace) longer lifespans and are less noisy and more efficient.

      • Fantastic explanation. Thanks!

    Garbage, I only buy brushless.

    Lucky I don't neg you.

And model numbers are: Bosch PSB 1800 Li-2 + PDR 18 Li

These will screw in an Eneloop.

    • It's not a tuba.

      • It might be a tuba. IT'S NOT A TUBA!!!

    • You can do it yourself without these tools, you're meant to put them in the toy first remember
      :P

  • It's a good deal, but not that good. I bought this kit last year for $199. The problem is no tool bag included. If you buy a normal one, it does not fit properly. I used the tools building a small deck without any problem. The battery was charged very quickly.
Comparing to the tradies' tools, they are just toys.

    • Comparing to the tradies' tools, they are just toys

Yeah, Bosch Blue is the "tradesmen" quality. Bosch Green is just home handyman stuff.

I am at about 6 years with my LXT Makita stuff and 2x 4Ahr batteries, I bought as a tool pack back in the day when the AUD was strong and imported from the US. I'd rather not go above about 4AhHr as the battery gets a bit heavy. I use mine a couple times a week, have a property in the bush.

  • Currently renovating my house using this green set.. Working on 60yr old hard jarrah these are performing admirably with decent drill bits, drilling tek and bugle 6mm screws into the jarrah (with a bit of soap on the end of the screw) and goes well.. Definitely be updating to a brushless set later (and different range/make,) I have 5 batteries (care of Masters skin + free battery) with a recip saw, radio, torch and drill and impact driver but committed too early since Bosch have abandoned the green range.. So don't think of being able to extend your range and use the batteries elsewhere.. Batteries last awhile but I can't compare them to anything better as I haven't had the experience, still wish I bought the AEG 6ah brushless drill now..

      Batteries last awhile

TBH I'd say the opposite. Even with advances in battery technology, I'd say for tools in an average Joe's house getting occasional use, the batteries will die before the tool does. Or to put it another way, tools die with usage, batteries eventually die with or without usage, eventually.

      • Hence 5 batteries, swap out and charge.. I've gone through so many cycles and they are still standing up for the 12-18months I've been using them on the weekend pretty intensively, so I'm happy with the product, but I wouldn't be happy to now pay $150 for a clearance set and more so a range that isn't supported anymore.

plus for band 28 in description

  • This is a DIY drill kit. I'd rather use my 5yo dewalts (with brushes)

    Bosch Blue or nothing.

Well, choose another brand before Bosch Green.

    • +3

      Ozito?

      • lol

      • I should say choose another good brand.

Bosch green is still better than Makita lower grade. 2 sets if batteries dead within two years…

  • Do these include pedals?

  • +1 for most sarcastic post today.
