Good price, but I would advise checking out the forums before purchasing … just so you know of some of the issues/challenges people have had / are having …

prices are in the 180 range - check on staticice for options.

  • Does anyone know if this can record PayTV if you set the time yourself manually etc? Does in have inputs to record?

  • very troublesome unit I would avoid. I know from experience

    • missed my post by a few seconds.

Could you explain what the actual trouble with it was, or just 2 or 3 of the most annoying things about it

  • spent the last hour reading the forums about these, and am still unconvinced either way. ppl mention there are issues, but never seem to explain what they are. Others say the unit is great.

Is there anyone here who owns one who can say if they recommend it or not?

Yeah I own one. Bought one with an 808GB HDD from catch of the day.

Would I recommend it? Well, for the price … yes. But it does have it's nuances. If you're tech savy and don't mind having to put up with it playing up sometimes, then I would say buy one. It's hundreds of dollars cheaper that a similarly spec'd unit from the big name manufacturers.

If you want a tivo-esque experience, then don't buy one.

      • yeah so my concern is, are the issues you might have with it so bad, that no matter how much you tinker with it, they can't be overcome. From what you say, sounds like you can still gain all functionality from it, but it's just a PITA?

      • can you tell me if you are able to record straight onto an external HD? instead of the internal?

    • +1

most people who work the issues out dont come back to post on the forums,

i think if the unit has issues and is mainly for those who like to update firmwares

Personally if you like things to work and would be buying this to save a few bucks then dont, it has issues

If you are techy and dont mind updating / waiting on firmwares and dont mind the occaisonal reboot then this is a pretty good deal

  • Was thinking of getting this but after seeing the forums I decided not to. I already have a "challenging" PVR from Aldi. :(

    • Yeah life is about reducing the challenges lol

  • I just want to be able to record Austar with our paying extra for mystar and withour issues. I use a DVD Recorder but the quality is not the best. Anyone recommend something?

  • So does this enable digital television for my crappy old Analogue TV? The TV uses the Red/White/Yellow cables…

    • yes but you may want to pay $30-$50 for a set top box only and save yourself about 200.00

    • Yes, both HDMI and Red/White/Yellow + audio is available

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for PVRs if the general vibe of this one is negative. Have been looking at the topfield TF7100HD-PLUS and some of the popcorn hour offerings. Any thoughts on these or others or perhaps some links to reviews that you think are close to the truth. Googled some reviews but some say product is great others say products is rubbish. Who to believe?

  • Do not buy anything from Astone - their firmware is terrible and they don't test properly before release. I have the 360t - it is a good media player with a terrible interface but its a bad pvr.

  • I would hold off on this as there a new dual version coming out from Astone very soon so these might go even cheaper.
