Up to 85% off Qantas Domestic Business Class - $158.38 One Way Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane. Melbourne to Perth $332.71

2540

—- DEAL UPDATE 13th August 2017 —-
The previous deal from July sold out early so get in quickly.

Expires 30th September for the Avios via Groupon and 31st August for the bonus avios via IberiaPluStore so you need to get in quickly before 31st August 2017.

Great opportunity for those that missed out last time or wished they’d bought more.

—- END OF UPDATE 13th August —-

OK This is a killer deal in terms of savings of 85% off the price of domestic Business Class Fares.

Example - book a $2148 return fare for $316.76 or one way in business class for $158.33

Melbourne to Perth - $332.71 in Business Class one way.

But (and a very big BUT) it requires some effort. It's not for the faint hearted or the lazy but it gets you sitting up front for way less including lounge access, priority boarding etc.

All the details are in the linked page, step by step with screenshots but there are a number of hoops to go through.

It basically involves doing the following:
* 1. Sign up with OneWorld and Qantas Partners Iberia.com and BA.com (you'll need to borrow a UK address for Iberia.com)
* 2. Go to Groupon.es (Spanish site) via the shopping portal at Iberia.com. They give you extra points (avios) for buying through them as the affiliate. 13 per 1 EUR spent
* 3. Buy their Avios Deal for 8000 Avios for EUR99 and accept them into your Iberia.com Avios Account.
* 4. Send your avios to British Airways (fully exchangeable currency)
* 5. Book Qantas flights using Avios.

If you don't have BA.com and Iberia.com frequent flyer accounts then both accounts need to be open for 90 days before transferring avios and booking your flights

Summary of the Process with all the steps is on the webpage linked

Some of the steps are in Spanish - google translate translate.google.com is your friend here.

Please read that first before asking any questions as they all should be answered there.

80% of people will probably find this too hard but the hard core ozbargainers who get through it will reap the rewards.
The Avios are also good for short intra Asia Flights where it's arguably more worthwhile travelling business class.

I make nothing from this deal, but please sign up to the mailing list on the site if you find this useful and want to hear about more hacks like this in the future.

If I've missed anything, please let me know. I redeemed myself the other day without any issues.

Also the packs sell out so don't delay if you want to buy them. If the 8000 avios pack has sold out then try others.

Validity:
Until 30/09/2017 to redeem the coupon for your Avios. Once exchanged, no modifications or cancellations will be accepted.

Purchase limit HAS CHANGED this time : Limit 1 coupon per Iberia card for ALL options so if you need more then buy one of the bigger avios options:

4.000 Avios Iberia Plus 59 €

8.000 Avios Iberia Plus 99 €

15.000 Avios Iberia Plus 189 €

20.000 Avios Iberia Plus 249 €

34.000 Avios Iberia Plus 429 €

        • Yea that's fair.

And if you love the lounge enough for the 4500 points to be worth it.

I absolutely love lounges for free food but I think I'd rather save 4500 points and not have lounge.

        • @illumination:

Actually if the flight is originated from Hong Kong, I would suggest you book business for 4500 Avios more, then you can go to Cathay Pacific Pier business lounge, which is a great lounge with lot of great food.

    • Yes this is a good deal, I used my Avios on this route regularly. Also look for Hong Kong to Japan routes, also fantastic value.

  • Does anybody need to receive the letter to the UK address? Can it just be binned?

    • It can be binned ;)

  • I've signed up with BAEC/Iberia for this, but buggered if I can get the BA website to let me login to confirm my EC account. It just continuously refreshes the login page. Tried using both email address & EC membership number with no luck.

    Anyone else seeing that?

    • I had this when I signed up a while ago. perhaps try different internet browsers? I cannot remember how this resolved itself, I guess you have 90 days to figure this out. :)

    • +1

Yep I had the same problem, I had to open the BA activation link they send you in Mircosoft Edge browser.

      • Can confirm that using Edge worked for me. Tried Chrome and Firefox first and they both just looped back to the login screen.

    • yeah try a different browser.

    • no it docent work

  • Just tried to register for BA but it said it no longer operates the Executive Club in my region as I used an Australian address. Do I need to use a UK address for BA and Iberia?

    Thanks

  • I have tried to do this offer but when i try to log in on the British airways website it takes me back to the login screen and makes me do it again and again how can i get this to stop doing this

    • Can confirm that using Edge worked for me. Tried Chrome and Firefox first and they both just looped back to the login screen.

    • try a different browser

  • Pretty sure this is dead, has been over abused. They pulled from Groupon.es

    • all except for the 2,000 avios are currently available on Groupon.es

    • It's still there - but the 2000 pack is sold out (was sold out before I posted)

  • They have 270,000 Marriott Points to redeem Marriot travel packages for 7 Night Stay + 120,000 Alaska Airlines Miles.
Anyone known these Marriot travel packages for 1 or 2 people? Thanks.
    http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morepack.mi

    • +1

It's a room and points package, you get a room for 1 or 2 people and 120,000 Alaska miles (or Avios) towards flights.

But where do you get your 270,000 marriott points from to get this in the first place?

      • 180k Amex Ascent —> 90k SPG—> 270k Marriott Rewards points —> Hotel and Flight package

      • I have >80K Amex Ascent & >80K Amex Gateway, and 20K SPG and more.
It's just a Hotel + Air Package, but it means Hotel + Points Bonus only, not Hotel + Airline (for 1 person) + Points Bonus, right?

        • Correct, hotel + points only

      • Oh. But I can transfer those points below:
80K Amex Ascent = 80K Singapore Airline KrisFlyer.
        80K Amex Gateway = 60K KrisFlyer.
        20K SPG = 25K KrisFlyer (Including 5K bouns).
Total: 165K KrisFlyer or Velocity or Asia Miles.

But 270,000 Marriott Points for 7 Night Stay + 120,000 Alaska Airlines Miles or Avios or 132,000 Miles United MileagePlus (+10% bouns).

        Is it worth?

I'm not sure what your question was @andynbp

  • can i net QFF points/status credit if i bought it through this method?

    • NO

    • no

    • no

    • Redeem points for flights NO earn Points or Status Credits.
Can earn Points from your credit card.

  • Cheers Dave. Damn shame about the 90 day thing though but hopefully I'll get a chance again sometime. I fly to Perth from Brisbane monthly and this would make the journey far easier.

    • Also,

'Also the packs sell out so don't delay if you want to buy them. If the 8000 avios pack has sold out then try others.

      Validity:
Until 07/30/2017 to redeem the coupon for your Avios. Once exchanged, no modifications or cancellations will be accepted.
Purchase limit : Limit 1 coupon per Iberia card for the option of 2,000 Avios.
Limit 3 coupons per Iberia card for the option of 34,000 Avios.
Limit 5 coupons per Iberia card for the remaining options: 4,000, 8,000, 15,000 and 20000 Avios.'

I have only just opened the BA and Iberia accounts but would it be worth buying a bundle of Avios and leaving sit in my Iberia account until the 90 days is up and then transfer to BA??

      • +1

@gasman if you'd use them then I'd personally say it's worth it. I have a stash just in case. There's always the risk of devaluation of avios but so long as you bear that risk in mind then you should be right

        • Cheers Dave. Just got myself e300 worth. Damn tempted to get more but I won't tempt fate until the 90 days is up.

Just one thing though….I've tried and failed to book flights from Brisbane to Perth. It keeps sending me via Hong Kong!! Any ideas or is there no direct route via BA?

        • +1

          @gasman70:

If there's a qantas flight, check out award availability on Qantas.com.au then call up ba to book and say you couldn't book it online.

  • Seems like a lot of trouble for business class in domestic flights … which isn't that beneficial on a short trip (bar to/from PER to anywhere)… even with Virgin "The Business" …

Interested to hear how people go since so many +ve votes!

    • +2

If it was easy everyone would do it. Complexity is our friend in this case!
As I inferred in the intro, about 90% of people won't bother and will be the ones sat at the back squashed up.

I have long legs so I value the extra legroom, priority boarding, meal on board, lack of queuing etc. and when cheaper than an economy flight you can't really lose…

It's actually straightforward once you have the accounts setup and all can be booked online.

Someone mentioned this may be of help

    https://www.myukmailbox.com/rate

  • Can this work with international flights?

    • sure - good value for short haul international flights

  • anybody having issues with the last stage; Combine Avios Option?
I have a message saying that;  We are sorry to inform you that this service is not available. If you have any questions, please consult your service centre. We apologise for the inconvenience.

    • account needs to have been open for 90 days. If you get an issue sometimes it can help creating an avios.com account and send from iberia to avios.com then to ba.com

  • Help!!!Pls!!!

When I go to the following link to register my purchase with Iberia.
    http://ticket.groupon.es/ticket_es/iberia/
And enter Groupon Voucher Details as Security code, Coupon code and Email Address. After tick & click Validate Coupon. But nothing happen, it's not going to step 2. So, I do the second time again, the website said: "Este cupón ya ha sido usado"

How can I do now? :((

  • Sounds like a website issue. The message you got means the groupon has already been used.

See if you get an email from Groupon (check your spam folder too).

    Mine said the following:

    Estimado usuario,
Mira tu Tarjeta Iberia Plus en 15 dias ya habrás recibido tus Avios.

    Gracias!
    Un saludo,
    Groupon

I just checked my Iberia account and my Groupon Avios just dropped today effective 21st July though (the date that the groupon was redeemed). Still waiting on the shopping portal avios which take a bit longer.

  • I can't seem to find the Avios deal on Groupon ES anymore. The deal has ended already?

  • I have received the 8000 Avios but not the remaining. Do those get credited at a later date?

    • yes at a later date.

    • How long did it take from redeeming the groupon coupon and delivery of Avios to your Iberia account. I've still not seen any and I transferred them over three weeks ago.

  • N/A
    got it sorted

    • good work. You can use these if you're in Perth to get business class for economy prices as in this hack

      http://www.creditflyer.com.au/best-ways-to-get-from-perth-to…

Can be adapted to Sydney or Melbourne too.

      • Looking forward to trying it out in 90 days.

How do you find out about the groupon deal?
Do you just check regularly or have another source?

  • +1

New deal is on to buy avios - expires 30th August. I posted as a deal on here but was rejected as a duplicate.

    • What are other good short distance deals apart from domestic travelling? Is it possible to buy business trip within Thailand or short international trip (eg HK to Japan) with this trick (using Avios point)?

      • Thanks for posting this Dave, I had the same question as above and was wondering how much it would typically cost for HK to Japan with economy/business class?

        • +1

Hong Kong to Japan 20,000 avios plus GBP 32

Hong Kong to Bangkok is better value at 11,250 plus 26.20 in cathay business class

        • @daveozsydney: hi Dave the hk to Japan trip for 20k avios is a business class or economy?

  • Seems like the Iberia PluStore is under maintenance ATM

  • At which point does the 90 days come into play?
I suspect the transfer between Iberia and BA but I'm not sure

    • correct

  • im still waiting for the points to hit Iberia account, i did the redemption from Groupon on the 26th July.. anyone still waiting ?

    • Yeah, I'm still waiting too. Just purchased more and transferred them to Iberia and Groupon said that it takes up to ten days!! Hopefully they'll arrive soon.

    • I'm still waiting for spending transaction from Iberia PluStore (13 Avois per 1 EUR spent). Purchased Avios hit my Iberia Account already.

  • Hi Daveozsydney

I FINALLY GOT THE points but only showing 8,200 didn't get my bonus points from this step (Go to Groupon.es (Spanish site) via the shopping portal at Iberia.com. They give you extra points (avios) for buying through them as the affiliate. 13 per 1 EUR spent).

    • They arrive a bit later. Upto approx 40 days from the email. Did you get an email titled "Pending Avios on IberiaPluStore"

      • Dear Nizar,

Groupon ES has informed us of your transaction with them on 20/07/17, and the Avios you have earned are pending.

        Retailer:

        Groupon ES Avios:
        1288 PurchaseID:
        59512148

I got this email on 20 July 017

        Thanks

    • when did you redeem you point from Groupon to Iberia ?

      • I just searched my email and found an email from Iberia saying:

Groupon ES has informed us of your transaction with them on 26/07/17, and the Avios you have earned are pending.

        Retailer:Groupon ES Avios:3862 PurchaseID:XXXXXXX

Bear in mind the approval can take up to 40 days from the day the purchase was made.

        • finally got my 8000 points but still no bonus points, guess thats another month wait.. but i did not receive the above email, should i be worry ?

        • @annielee:

I haven't even got the ones I've paid for yet! Nah, no,point worrying as I'm sure they'll turn up.

        • i bought mine on the 26/7 and checked the IB activity, and its transferred on the 7/8 but i didnt see the points till yesterday coz i checked my account everyday !

        • @annielee:

I bought 24000 on 26/7 and another 30000 yesterday. Hopefully I'll see some soon but I'm sure there's a limit on the amount of Avios purchased per year, so I may well lose some.

        • @gasman70: thats a lot that you've purchased, and i did a mistake for the 1st purchase as i didnt bought it via IBPlus store (via Groupon directly) so i wont get the extra 1900 avios..just bought another 20000 today and hoping it will hit the account sooner..

        • @annielee:

I do quite a bit of domestic travel so I'm hoping I'll use them.

Now that you mention it, I can't remember if I bought yesterday's ones through the Iberia site or not!

        • +1

@gasman70: thats definitely great (cheap) way to use for business class domestically.. :-)

        • @annielee: i also did this :( but will try buy another lot via the IBPlus store as well

  • +4

Can get a 20 Euro discount, meaning the 8,000 points package for €79 (~$118).
Use coupon code VIVEGRPN at checkout (for new users only).

  • ok, so the Iberia plus store for Groupon now says "up to 13 Avios / €1 until 09/30/2017"
sounds like bonus points extended a month
