Hi Ozbargainers,

For anyone that is interested in striping out the two hard drives for their NAS. Looking at Static Ice, this deal still seem cheaper than getting individual drives.

Don't know how long this price will be on for.

Specs:
* 2-Bay, 16TB Personal Cloud Storage includes 2 x 8TB HDD
* User-selectable RAID 0/1 or JBOD lets you configure your drive for more speed (default setting: RAID 0), data protection (drive mirroring: RAID 1) or operate as two independent drives (JBOD)
* High-capacity external storage and backup. Ultra-fast, optimized data transfer speeds. Protecting your data with multiple backup options
* Complete backup solutions to secure your data from loss - Integrated backup software, Cloud backup with Dropbox, System-level backup
* Speed and security with hardware encrypted RAID

Mod 1/8: Updated currency to reflect current rate (using MasterCard rates).

  • Some details to include:

    • 2-Bay, 16TB Personal Cloud Storage includes 2 x 8TB HDD
    • RAID 0/1/JBOD
    • Also 12, 8, 6 and 4TB capacities available
  • Did this work with Plex? How about for use with video editing?

    • It's just a chassis that hold two 8TB WD Red. Most people just buy them just to strip the hard drive out and install them to their NAS. But if its not your kind of thing you can just use them as what is shown and plug the USB into your router and share it on your network.

  • It was cheaper in USD ($460 USD) on July 7 and has been this price since July 8 (based on 3camels). The AU$ has strengthened which helps. I doubt the amazon price will go up soon but you never know….

    I don't think this is a NAS?

    Just a big USB drive.

  • Big USB drive with encryption that makes the drives data useless if and when the enclosure breaks…so best to strip out and put in own casing, unless you actually want the encryption of data.

  • Crazy

  • Ordered this last week - with Prime it actually was in my hands within 3 days!

    • Prime sends to Australia?

      • No idea but thats how I explain how it got here that fast and I didn't pay extra for faster shipping..

      • Prime sends to Australia?

Prime only ships free in the US so it was paid shipping and sometimes you can receive a shipment within days even if you place an order with the standard shipping option.

  • i ended up buying this a few days ago, seams pretty good, might get another one a bit later……… im planing on backing up to 2 greens from this.

  • Mad Deal! Used these to store about 3 ebooks and 1 jpeg

  • Hi Op, Are you using the Amazon currency converter at checkout? If so, don't. It should be $632.77 AUD delivered with 28 Degrees card.

    • Yeah.. Was using Amazon currency converter

  • Merged from WD 16TB My Book Duo - $478.99 USD + $24.57 USD Shipping (~$628.04 AUD) @ Amazon US

This deal was previously submitted here at same USD price but due to strengthening AUD dollar it is now $30 cheaper. Therefore I don't see this being a duplicate. I miss the parity days

These contain WD Red drives and a much cheaper option then purchasing them separately. $439ea is the cheapest on Staticice. Works out to being $220 cheaper plus a free external enclosure.

I will be purchasing one and removing the drives for my server. They are super easy to remove and replace if needed for warranty purposes

When I looked at these 8 months ago, I was told that the initial run had WD Red drives, but not the next run.

        • Yeah mixed bag for the drives on these. I've seen them be a variety of different makes and models. I'd rather pay the 70USD more to know getting 2x RED's for sure.

The enclosure is pretty good too with the additional USB ports on it, just wish it came with universal power adapter with the changeable sockets.

    • Be curious to know if they contain reds or not
Also only 8TB poor little tiddlers, I think I need 10's on my next round of upgrades in 12 months :(

        99.9% sure they're RED's.
I've bought two of these and both were RED's.
Haven't read anywhere else that they are substituted with other drives.

      • These contain WD Red drives

I'm not just assuming this. I have recently stripped a My Book Duo and a My Cloud EX2 for the red drives. These are very popular over at subreddit /DataHoarder for this reason

      • They're reds. Bought 2 of these in April/May to add to my nas.

  • Is it cheaper to buy in AUD or USD when using a normal mastercard?

    • Depends on your bank but usually around 3% fee
I used the amazon conversion and paid $656 to amazon
The bank would be around $651 on visa so it's a little cheaper but I decided to use AUD so I could get a single figure for tax purposes
You can get zero fee cards but I hardly buy stuff anyway

  • Thanks pulled the trigger

  • What power supply does it use? I imagine you'll need to buy a separate power supply that supports Aus.

    • Power supply is internal. To use in Australia either use a travel adaptor or a power cord like this one https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/comsol-mal… Pretty common cord for dvd/bluray players and ps3/4

      • Awesome, thanks for the info!
How do you know what it uses, do you own one?

        • I have a Duo and a My Cloud. They are just bare enclosures now. Drives are in my unRAID server
