Which store in WA was this?

    • +1

Would really like to know too

  • +11

Surely a pricing error? don't think you can even get a iphone 5s that been out for 4 years for under $300

    • +2

The lady gave me one no questions asked!?

    • +1

as shown on the picture, looks like this is a special case.

    • +1

This is probably a manager's markdown, one store only. I don't think most stores could afford to sell iPhone SE's for half price — they'd get a grilling from the Area Manager.

  • -8

hope i live in wa. but anyway 32G feels really not enough nowadays. good post for some one might need it.

    • +33

i hope you find out soon

    • +3

and here i am struggling with 16gb, probs wait until iphone8 before upg tho

  • +1

Jesus, I would buy another at this price! Might go into big w first thing in the morning.

  • +2

Please tell us which store this is!

  • -3

1st post smells like a fishing trip here

    • -2

Yep, came to say this, I would even go as far as to caution that the print-out is his own. Either way he be fishin'

  • doweyy I think you were correct, at least that was what I've been told sometime back by a JB employee

    • What he say?

      • that iphones aren't locked.

        • +1

          They certainly aren't permanently
Factory reset /call to telco unlocks them
When I worked at Vodafone you needed to factory reset with other telco sim inserted and that unlocked it permanently

        • This is incorrect, a factory reset (restore) on an iPhone does not remove the service provider lock

iPhones are typically not sold locked anymore, but if they are, the provider it's currently locked to has to send a request to Apple and you then have to insert a SIM from another network for the unlock to happen.

          See https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201328

    • +2

I removed my comment because I forgot that Telstra still sell locked iPhones, I meant to say that Optus don't anymore, or it can be quickly removed with an update or factory reset with new SIM.

  • +3

Woolworths egiftcard for another 5% off

  • WHOA

  • So what store?

  • -3

Wonder if anyone would price match it!

  • Jfields first comment and post on ozBargain.

    Credibility checks out.

  • +1

lookslike store specific, no way my stingy local store would honour that

  • +2

I find the fact that it's isn't spelled iPhone a dead giveaway on fakeness.

    • If it is legit or not
You'd have to expect it's written up by some manager that doesn't give a shit or a kid being paid $15 an hour not keen on spell checking.
      Odd situation for sure

    • Those yellow boxes in the cabinet underneath look like the packaging Optus uses for their phones (https://cdn.ozb.me/n/61/196561x.jpg?h=e0e5ce79). I guess it's possible OP printed this out himself and took it to a BIG W just to troll us. If that's the case, bravo OP!

      • This could only be one-upped by after printing and putting it up for a photo, he then flagged down sales staff and tried to force them to honor it or they go down for false advertising!

  • "BigW WA" but why won't you mention the store?

    Fake.

  • Holy cow

    • +2

Fake, I bet you didn't actually laugh!

  • +1

WA big place. Big W in WA? Small selection. Can't be that hard to disclose

  • -8

    Which Big W? Jesus Christ

    • +3

      The one in WA, duh.

  • -3

"For a friend ". Yeah, right

  • Where's op at
    Detailssss

    • OP is in perth. That's all I can make out from his\her profile.

      • Hope the debut goes well this weekend mate congrats.

  • +1

    r e c e i p t s p l s

  • Don't worry everyone, I believe OP is legit, he wasn't on a first post fishing expedition.. He's uh just taken out a second mortgage on his house to continue buying the stock before he tells all of us what location it is.

  • Show us the receipt OP or it didn't happen.

Also who buys a "friend" an iPhone? It's a pretty expensive gift!

  • +1

A friend of mine have just bought a brand new iPhone 4s for $150, he'll probably kill him self if he sees this…… lol

    • wow im impressed that your friend can find a new iphone 4s these days…

  • THe iphone se in big w catalogue sells for 499,already a saving of 200. How could this even possible?

    • A close down sale?? haha

      • the Optus locked is indeed $469. Gonna try first thing tomorrow morning in wa Joondalup

  • +3

Friend of mine just bought me Samsung S8 for $50 on dark web. Details to follow……

  • -3

negative vote, unless he can provide the receipt and the possible for others to get this deal..

    • -1

      I agree

    • -3

      Yeh

      • +1

    • done now

  • 10/10 would buy. if real ha

  • Fake news like this is actually a little sad because many immediately raise expectations of getting one as you can see by the swindled up votes.
No need to do that to them, it's kind of unfair.

  • +2

Why are people giving the deal positive votes when there is so much doubt about its veracity?

    • +1
      1. Open Ozbargain
      2. Spot a bargain
      3. Vote positive
      4. Wait 3 days
      5. Read comments
      6. Retract vote
      7. Repeat
  • +1

Revoked my vote due to lack of input by OP.

    • Saw the notification and wondered why the downvotes - then I saw that the post was updated with locations (which were not there for some time after the post was put up), so fair enough.

Luckily the site doesn't have any sort of tallies of total up/down votes (at least that I can see)? Otherwise I'd point out that it was flawed that a comment that was true at the time of posting has no recourse from being downvoted because a post was edited (with no sign of the fact that the locations weren't provided at the time…not that the OP needs to point this out, of course).

Not sure if people downvoted because I said lack of info despite there being locations (now)? It's pretty obvious that something must have changed between the comment's time of posting…just sayin'.

      • Your reason for downvote is not really valid. You may ask the OP to improve by making recommendation as a more appropriate course of action.

    • Actually, to an extent, I retract the part in my comment below about recourse - more broadly speaking (i.e. not talking about this specific instance) - automatically retracting a vote due to a related comment is essentially censorship (though with these votes, at least it doesn't count for much), there's no arguing around that - it's having people's opinions (downvote) retracted due to other people disagreeing (downvoting a comment).

Would be interested to know why such a low downvote threshold (net of -8 at the time of posting) is enough to justify revoking a downvote.

    Hey guys,

I work in the Home Entertainment department at Big W (one in WA) and this is legit. This deal is ONLY for stores that didn't already have Sony XPeria XA's in stock.

    • Stores like… ?

My name's Dan Wilson. I run Iowa's largest wildlife preserve.

    • +1

Can you please tell us which stores?

      • +3

Sorry I can't, that information can only be retrieved by contacting Central Office, Big W's in-store stock systems can only check their own store. The price is still $469, so any store that does this deal has to manually override the price.

        • Thank you.

        • So we've got a deal that's only available to… a small amount of people who go to unknown stores. Great.

Could you at least rule out or in the store you work at?

My name's Dan Wilson. I run Iowa's largest wildlife preserve.

        • +1

          @DonWilson:

Yes its a very poorly handled promotion. They should've just changed the price nationwide, doing it this way just causes problems.

Gateways WA has Sony Xperia's so iPhones are staying the same price.

    • -1

Give us some stores that don't have XA's in stock

    • +8

I'm just a staff member, I don't have access to the stock levels nationwide. You'll either have to contact the Big W Facebook group, ring Head Office or just ring your local stores.

  • Can you unlock these like the Telstra ones free?

  • +2

See u guys at Belmont Forum tomorrow!

    • +5

I am getting in just before they open. Hope I do not set the alarm off when I fall from the ceiling.
I suppose that Belmont WA would not have enough stock for the 100 or so OzBargain buyers who will be wanting to get to the phone sales desk first. No hard feelings guys when I get mine before they sell out for the rest of ya :-)

    • +6

Belmont Big W opens at 8. Google maps say it will take me 10 minutes by car. I leave at 7. Gotta be in it to win it!

Edit: I came to my senses. Twas a devout Apple holdout until now - never bought a single Apple product (apart from renting movies on iTunes). A whiff of this deal instantly turned me into a mindless beast. I will offer sacrifices to the one true god - Android - and self flagellate piously. Thank you Android god for putting temptation in my way to test me.

      • You can buy it n give to your friend hehe

  • +12

"The offer is only available at the stores below where the Sony Xperia XA is NOT available for purchase."

Does this mean if I buy up all the XA's at my local store I'll be able to buy the SE at this price?

    • No, because it WAS available for purchase.

  • +3

In before everyone revokes their negs and unpublishes their comments.

  • +4

Broken Hill is not located in SA

    • Possibly whoever compiled the list was using area codes to determine state or territory. Broken Hill is of course 08, not 02.

    • Close enough…

    • +1

Broken Hill is the dream, SA but without Jay Weatherill

  • +4

where did the store locations come from scrimshaw?

edit: so basically check the stock for the XA.. the list is incorrect as it only shows the stores which do not have the XA in stock right? shouldn't it also correlate with a store that has the SE in stock?

    • there are two XAs. one is vodafone xa sell for 199 online. the other one is sony xperia xa, sell for 249.

      • yep the one i linked to came from the catalog link

this should be the correct one

        • lol, looks like non of the bigw within 30km of my location has xa in stock, however non of them have se as well.

        • @ce5himm:

yeah I won't bother hunting for this unicorn. 8am on a bloody saturday too! nothx.

        • @CVonC: i do not think that website reflect the real stock. i've checked some other items like Contempo Compact Digital Microwave 18L, Gumption Multi Purpose Cleanser 750g, The Last Guardian Playstation 4 non of them in stock in 5 bigw close to me. it is impossible.

    • Valid point

  • What are their stock levels like?

  • where is the above store list come from?someone have the access to the stock?

    • see my edited comment above yours

      • +1

I got this from your link, does that mean all these store should have the SE at $249?
