Does it have a notification LED? Could not find any mention in the specs.

    • +2

No it doesn't AFAIK. Wife's phone so haven't played that much ans she doesn't like notification LED anyway.

    • +1

      Nah plenty sound tho.

    • I think it has tiny LED which is activated only during charging or turning on/off events. To customize that for general purpose, you need to root. Can anybody confirm ?

      • Yep, it has a tiny LED in a speaker grille that only lights up in a specific situation to indicate that it's charging (switched off and charging, while having not enough battery to light up the screen to indicate that it's charging; basically 0% batts) and it's so tiny people say it's hardly worth rooting just to customise it as it's not really big enough to act as a sufficient notification led.

  • Nfc is listed so is fingerprint = ideal for tap and go card payments?

I need a new phone, is it just this phone that gets discount or does code work on other phones too? :)

    • +2

Just tried it on a z play, brings the price down to ~$479

    • +4

Discount seems to be working storewide

      • +1

        Cool thanks :)

  • This is damn tempting, but I'm not sure I want another phone with an IPS screen. Thew Z2 play is $559 and has AMOLED but I'm not sure if it is worth the extra $$

Wild card for me is possibly the ZTE Axon A7. Decisions decisions.

  • +1

Thanks OP just bought one in preparation for father's Day.

    • Cheers, mate :)

  • all bands supported?

    • +4

      Yes, all Australian bands supported.
That, being dual sim AND dedicated microSD slot won me over.

  • From the link, https://store.motorola.com.au/product/moto-g5-plus/?attribut…

    Bands (by Model)
    Moto G Plus – XT1685
    GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    UMTS/HSPA+ (850,850Japan, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    4G LTE (B1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 19, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41)

For just $100 more, the LG G6 is a significantly better phone that is much more future-proof IMO. Outstandingly better screen, camera, performance, build quality, design and durability. But then again… for another $100 more you can get the S8. Decisions decisions…

      Name checks out!! ;)

    • +7

Except the Motorola doesn't come with bootloop.

      • +3

Yup, after my 5x bootlooped (and many hundreds and thousands') I'm not touching LG. More than bootloop is the way LG denied everything is what put me off them.

        • What is bootloop?

        • +4

          @cloudie9:
It's when a device tries to start but doesn't quite start and goes into a loop of starting and shutting down until it runs out of battery.

        • +3

Same experience like me. I owned Nexus 5, LG G3, and LG G4. I won't touch LG again, all goes into bootloop after a year.

        • @planetandre:

Same for me, no more LG.

        • @elzilcho: No more LG for me, burned by the G4.

Motorola has a product launch event on July 25th in New York City, which is expected to include a new G5s and G5s +, so might be worth holding off in case a price drop on this phone

  • +1

Thanks. Bought G5 for my mom

Wait for the next 20% eBay sale and get this phone for $319 from The Good Guys ebay store.

Last sale was about 3 weeks ago, so next will be any week now.

    • +4

This right here is 20% off. You might be looking at the 16GB version my friend.

    • +1

EDIT: Hmm…I think The Good Guys only sell the 3gb Ram model.

    What is the promo code?

    • Not sure if serious, but here you go
      MIDYEAR20%

  • +1

Thank you for the code. I used it to buy the new Moto powerpack mod (an extra 3490 mAh of power) for $79.20. My ZForce already lasts 36 to 48 hours with the smaller Incipio battery mod, so this should make the battery life even more impressive.

  • How's this compare to G4 plus?

    • Betterer.

      • I love my G4 plus, but NFC and superior imaging of the g5+ is tempting.
Though as another poster said, I'm waiting until after the Moto event in NYC to decide whether to buy

  • +1

    Thanks for this code OP!

  • $319.20 for the 3gb/32gb Motorola g4 plus.
Any thoughts on paying the extra over buying the 2gb/16gb version from officeworks for $268??

    • This might help.

  • Wish I'd known about this before committing to the QD deal posted earlier… time will tell if the ~$60 difference was worth it to forego Aus stock/local warranty.

    • Sorry to say this, and having dealt with QD for warranty before, IMO, it's worth far more than $60.

  • Thanks op just picked up two as NFC was too good to pass up on a budget phone! Eagerly awaiting my delivery now :) hopefully Aus post doesn't screw up!

  • +1

Anyone know when this sale ends?

  • Does Officeworks pricematch deals like this?

    • I don't think so, they have something about 'codes' not being applicable

    • Also, OW doesn't sell the 32Gb version, only the 16Gb version.

    • Just an update, I tried my luck pricematching this phone to the Good Guys 15% off price of $345 or something. They said that they normally don't do codes but as it offered local click and collect he will do it.

Paid $320 for the 3GB version. I needed something not gold and ASAP so it worked well.

  • +1

Apparently it ends on the 31st

  • Anyone seen any good, armoured cases for these getting around from Aussie sellers? I spotted the Armor X for it online, but only available from the official OS Armor X store, & I'm not keen on shelling out for delivery (free shipping for orders $40+ only). That's probably my pick as far as suitability goes, for my needs, but I'm open to others, ideally with waterproof in addition to shockproof protection, if anyone's seen any in their travels.

    • +1

Pro Gadgets, based in Melb. Bought a bunch of stuff off them over last few years, recently had to RMA that case (bought G5, not G5 Plus -
      - pretty smooth).

Also, Spigen cases are DA BOMB: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/263036766509
Wish they made a crystal SP for the G5+, gone through 5 glass ones (TAGG & Invisible Shield) in 8 weeks, they keep peeling off! (EDIT: just saw they do a glass one from Spigen too now).

  • Just bought one, thanks OP!

  • One day too late :(

  • Has anyone that ordered a grey G5 Plus had shipping notification from Motorola?

    • Ordered a gray G5+ on 31/7 evening and arrived 4/8 (NSW). No notification thought. So far so good, very happy with the performance.

    • Got this reply when i enquired:"The current estimated dispatch date is 04/08/17. Dispatch dates are subject to change due to multiple factors which can potentially impact your order.
