Would rather have got one here.

Yes that deal was spectacular, but they're all sold out, this is the next best thing.

      • +3

        They were also refurbished.

        • -1

and that was a desktop, this is a laptop, laptop parts always more expensive hence this is obviously a deal too

        • +3

@webtherapist: check the other deals in it

        • @tomkun01:

Wow.. Now those were some special prices!

  • Very good price for the GTX1070.

  • Good price for a nice spec, wish I have the money to burn.

  • Any experience with JW??

    • Used to be bricks and mortar and fairly good, hopefully this has not changed.

    • Recently purchased a laptop from them in-store. No problems at all.

    • They're legit. I had a couple of bad experiences a few years ago with customer service but that was years ago and not consistent issues. I bought this during the EOFY sales from JW ended up having to pick up from an Aus post depot further than both stores. Other than that annoyance i've been happy with it so far.

      • Thanks for the feedback guys.

Still currently operating our 4 brick and mortar stores in Sydney!

        • +1

any extra special deals on this for us ozbargainers?

        • @ah987: Would love to offer a little more; but this was the best we could do this time round, for all of you who missed out!

    • I just recently bought a monitor from them so hopefully I have a positive experience.

  • +1

Its hard to find good info on the spec, if the screen is matte, G-Sync, etc.

    Any details to be found?

  • That's a pretty good deal on a 1070 lappy with SSD and a 1tb secondary.

    • Thanks Testeagle! We agree! Happy we could secure it again, to offer a deal on it.

2 grand for an acer? no thanks

    • +7

They make the best gaming monitors, in addition to some great gaming laptops. You're clearly not a PC person.

  • +6

Got this laptop for $1,699 from JW during the EOFY ebay sale a few weeeks ago, it's a straight up beast!

    • Do you know what the refresh rate is of the screen? I saw some reviews that mentioned 75hz

      • Not sure but seems good.

    • how's the heat distribution? can you play for long periods of time without it overheating?

      • +1

Bought 1 for friend. He has both the acer and Gigabyte gtx 1070 laptop. He reported Acer by far will not feel hot on the keyboard after long usage.

      • +2

I read a review that said the CPU could overheat to 100 degrees, but then read a forum post saying it was fixed in a bios update. CPU hasn't been above 80 degrees when running Battlegrounds at Ultra. Overall heat distribution seems good, the back exhaust is pretty crazy and the ability to swap out the disc drive for another fan is pretty sweeeet. Overall the fans get a little loud when you've been gaming for a fair bit but this thing just keeps running solid.

        • +1 to Sidog

Bought it during EOFYS and has been running great, no over heating, fans kick in with a bit of noise when under heavy load but I have not felt any heat at all through the keyboard.

    • Thanks for chiming in, we seem to have lots of questions for you!
      - Matte screen?
      - G-Sync?
      - One of the reviews notes backlight bleed, have you noticed any?

      • +1
        • Matte screen?
Yeah , screen was a little underwhelming when it first turned on, think I prefer a glossier finish.
        • G-Sync?
          Yeah
        • One of the reviews notes backlight bleed, have you noticed any?
If you look closely but hardly noticeable otherwise.
  • Can anyone give me a rough idea % wise how the laptop 1070 compares to the desktop version?
Unless they are comparable these days.. (been out of the game a while)

    • +1

Supposed to be about 10% slower, not too much difference.

    • +1

I'm a bit rusty, but 10%. Depends on the activity, but much closer than the old Mobile GPU's.

    • +1

The gaming performance between a laptop 1070 and a desktop 1070 is pretty comparable, probably about 5-10% difference. However, you also have to factor in the difference between a laptop CPU compared to a desktop CPU, as gaming performance favours higher clock speeds. Thermals are another issue to consider, as some laptops can get pretty toasty after gaming for a period of time, which can cause thermal throttling and lower performance.

    • thanks all, sounds compelling! Back in the day the difference was much more significant.

  • Still waiting for Predator Helios 300, that's what we called the bargain.

    • Linus approves!

  • How is the keyboard please?

  • +2

Mobile Tech Review make great reviews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgCkiF6FDRA

    • This is a fairly thorough review, great find.

      • +1

Definitely my favorite portable technology YouTube channel.

Thanks for replying to my eBay message so quickly (and for the great price).

        • Not a problem at all mate, hope you enjoy it!

    • She's awesome. I can just imagine her gaming herself for some reason, seeing that she keeps reviewing gaming machines.

  • Ok, too good to pass up… Last time I upgraded I got very good money for my Asus gaming laptop, hopefully I get good coin for my current Alienware (the 970m was a great GPU).

  • Bought an msi gtx1070 laptop from them recently. Had great customer service and the package was pretty secure as well

    • +2

I bought this from JW for the EOFY sales. They added a box and bubble wrap and it was very secure. Then inside that the Acer pacakging was insane. A very heavy think black shiny finished cardboard box in a finish that reminded me of buying an expensive suit wrapped in a more conventional cardboard box padded with high quality black styrofoam.

  • Was thinking about buying a desktop pc soon for gaming and general use. Not sure whether to get this laptop instead. There's the benefit of salary sacrifice with a laptop too.

Is there any issue with connecting a monitor to this, so I'm not stuck with looking at a 17" screen?

    • +1

      Hey Salty Pretzel,

There would be no issues at all, connecting this to a external screen. It has 1 x HDMI and 1 x DisplayPort that you could use to connect it to a screen of your choice.

      Hope this helps!

  • I'd buy if it were 15.6". Is there an equivalent?

    • That's curious - you would prefer a SMALLER screen?

      • Smaller form factor, yes.

    • Sure and a cheaper RRP (you'd need to source a different bargain).

  • Does anyone know the refresh rate of the screen?

    • I couldn't find that info anywhere, searched for a while. I guess I'll find out when it arrives :P

  • Do you have promotion on any of the models with 6820HK/7820HK and 4K screen?

  • Feeling sorry for this poor soul…

    n***e ( 48Feedback score is 10 to 49) AU $2,599.00 1 24-Jul-17 10:47:04 AEST

  • Does anyone know if this is the model with the newer vent/exhaust cover design (just accented on the sides as opposed to across the entire back - same as in the Mobile Tech Review Video above)?

  • +1

Out of stock now. Why did i hesitate!

  • Any chance of more coming into stock before the deal expires? So much regret right now.

  • Sold out

  • Gaming laptops are more expensive and underpowered but the MSI 780mx 4700q i got in 2013 still runs great for battlefield 1 HQ

great deal may have to pick up a new one soon.

    • Yes and no, the GPU is close to the desktop GTX1070, can run most games at full settings.
Mobile GPU's used to be the m version (eg 970 vs 970m) and have ~60% the processing power, not any longer…

You do get more for your money in a tower / desktop and components, I dont have the space and resale of 2 year old gaming laptops has been very good (surprisingly).

  • +1

Finally decided to purchase but now it's sold out. Argh! Any chance of more stock?

  • As far as laptops go, is this as good as it gets for the price to run for video editing laptop.
Any advise for anything else out there.

Primarily I need one for editing and sorting video for YouTube channel.

    Looking for options.

    • The deal has passed, I have a great respect for Alienware refrurbs from Dell if the price is right and they ahve stock.

  • Will more stock be arriving soon? Keen to purchase if so.

  • Looks like it's back in stock but the price has now gone up to $2499. With 20% off it would come to $1999.
