  • Do they have any other models as part of that promo?

    • Is this a bad or a good thing?

What's so remarkable about it having an LCD screen? Unless the TV has an OLED panel, all LED TVs (properly called LED LCD TVs) will consist of an LCD screen - the "LED" refers to the technology of the light illuminating it. Very few TVs use CCFL backlighting now, so basically all the TVs you'll see at a store will be either LED LCD or OLED.

Some more important aspects are the type of LCD screen (IPS, TN, VA etc.) and whether the panel is edge lit or backlit.

      • Edge lit or full array backlighting does make a difference for local dimming. Affects contrast and allows for deeper blacks..

      • all the TVs you'll see at a store will be either LED LCD or OLED.

or, … "QLED" - a variation on traditional LED LCD, where light from blue LEDs is converted to coloured light by Quantum Dots instead of to white light using yellow phosphor.

    • What gave it away?

      • Title.

        • You're a pretty sharp one.

Good deal OP, although I'd recommend people save their pennies and wait for a good deal on an OLED TV. I recently purchased an LG E6 and picture quality is phenominal. The best I've personally seen (and I'm coming from an F8500).

The sound quality of the inbuilt speakers is also quite good. Good enough to not need external speakers in my room. A lounge room would be a different story though.

    • Not comfortable with the panel degradation, personally. Sure, they have techniques to mitigate it, but still, it's a fact of the technology that the quality will decrease over its lifespan.

      • That, plus cost and image retention were the main reasons I stuck with LCD for this round. I want to wait until OLED tvs mature a bit before taking the plunge. I ended up with a KS8000, which then got replaced with a Q7F for free because of panel clouding. LCD ain't perfect but there's compromises with everything on the market

        • Agree there's always luck of the draw with any panel. Image retention hasn't been an issue for me, although I don't use the E6 for gaming. I read somewhere that the 2016 and 2017 Oleds only suffer from short term image retention in some cases. I believe LG even have an option in settings to refresh the pixels as a fix.

I have noticed when I don't use the TV or if a movie is paused a screen saver will automatically turn on and shift through a couple of images constantly until the TV is used again. I'm sure LG and other manufacturers have taken steps to address image retention in the newer Oleds compared to the first and second generation panels.

        • hey i have the same KS8000 and was wondering what panel clouding is?

        • @djevoultion: My next TV will definitely be an OLED, but at this stage we just wanted a decent, large tv that would last us the next 5 or so years. Hell, I made do with my little 40" Samsung for 9 years before buying my 65" and the little tv is still going strong!

        • @nytrojen: ahh cool

        • @nytrojen: Same boat. Have a 55 inch in the bedroom, but my 40 inch Sammy in the living room refuses to die. It's a terminator! The picture is actually still really great, but I'm waiting for my youngest to realise the TV is not an over-size touch screen ipad before upgrading.

    • Thanks. I needed to hear this.

    • +1

I'll hang onto my money then. Desperately need a new tv though!

    • How much did you pay for it ??

  • -2

Honestly, I am not getting what you guys are discussing. I would like to buy a best priced 65 inch Samsung TV for my new home. Appreciate, if you can share your recommendations.

    • +3

If you want a Samsung 65" TV at 4k resolution, this is about as cheap as it's ever been.

    • +1

That's because they have researched for many hours so they can spend their hard earned money the best way.

    • Educate yourself.

      • +5

Why? For most people a TV is a TV. They don't care about black levels, edge lit vs back-lit etc. etc.

It won't make any difference to them. What they are more concerned about is: how big is it? is the brand reliable? does it support Netflix, Catch-up TV? Can it play movies I download from torrent sites?

        These are the important questions.

        • +2

In that case why buy a big brand? Just go with any of those generic ones instead and save yourself some $$.

        • -4

Wouldn't you need to educate yourself to answer those questions or do they just go poof into the air like your pathetic argument?

I think these days it's not just the initial price/purchase decision, you have to take into account the long term warranty/replacement strategy of the Manufacturer as well.

eg. 3-4 years ago I purchased a Samsung Series 8 60" LED blah blah blah - Was the best I could afford at the time.
Purchased the extended warranty as well..

Good Friday just gone, youtube via SmartTV died - Straight on the phone to Samsung customer support, I had someone from Malaysia remote connecting/analysing my TV within 15 minutes.
Fixed the youtube problem by performing a Factory Reset on the TV and Smart TV device.

I mentioned that my TV had a 'Shadow' running from the top middle to the middle of the screen.

After troubleshooting, they organised an Onsite Tech to visit (following Wednesday after the Easter long weekend) who confirmed the Shadow.

At which point they gave me 3 x options…

1 - I could receive the Full Purchase price of the TV as a credit to spend at my store of my choice
2 - I could receive a Cash Cheque for my original purchase price
3 - I could have a replacement, of same or equivalent, TV supplied at no extra charge.

I chose option 3 - But had to wait for 5 weeks as the older model was no longer available, and I had to wait for the stock to arrive of the newer replacement model.

Which happens to be the latest Series 8, curved screen, UHD 4K, 65" beauty, which was retailing for $4.3k at JB and Appliances online.

I, personally, couldn't be happier with the product and the service…

But I have purchased an extended warranty for this TV as well.

    GC

    • was extended warranty from Samsung or third party ?

      • Original Warranty was part of a deal.

        Samsung Series 8 TV
        Samsung SoundBar
        Samsung ext warranty

Separate Warranty was direct from Samsung Australia

  • JB HiFi is selling the same thing for $2296 straight. Doesn't need to do any redemption. Can save even more if you can buy those 5% off gift cards.

    • I think you missed out the $100 EFTPOS Card via Redemption, which brings the final cost down to $2195

      • -2

After $100 EFTPOS redemption the price is $2295.

        • but then if you apply coupon code "SAMSUNG100" at checkout, will give you $100 more discount

        • +1

I suggest you read the OP again

        • Sorry, agree

  • What is the actual refresh rate of this TV?

    • Only 100hz its the entry level model

    • … and of source - TV broadcast, 50Hz, of Blu-ray films, 24Hz and of UHD Blu-ray films, up to 48Hz.

      • Thats cute if you're a movie buff the higher the refresh rate the more smooth and less it breaks up. I bet you've got a soniq 50hz

        • You can interpolate 24Hz to 1000000Hz but the amount of actual frame information is still 24 frames in 1 second. Mags on a Corolla don't make it a sports car.

        • @AlexF: ok so you are saying theres no difference between 50-100-200hz panels. Really you cant tell looool

This or 65N7? Hisense has 3 years warranty. HDR plus (not sure how important is that)

    • This Samsung MU6400

      • +2

but MU6400 is edgelit. 65N7 is local dimming. Is 65n7 better in terms of contract?

        • +1

I've seen the 65N7 in person as my work colleague has one - it looks freaking amazing. To be honest I reckon it has better picture quality than the Samsung, but Samsung has fantastic after sales support and warranty.

        • @nytrojen:

entry model Samsung vs top model in this range Hisense. I have made my decision. thanks a lots!

        • @garylau: No worries - I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the Hisense! I was so impressed with the 65N7 that I had instant buyers regret for buying my KS8000.

        • @nytrojen: bought a 65n7 from HN last weekend. so far so good!:)

  • The samsung 65mu7000 harvey norman had last weeked fir $2799 was a way better tv next model up in panel colouring and 200hz with Better remote and one connect box ..
