  • With all these posts about the Google Home, it'd be good to read a definitive statement that it'll work (software-wise) in Australia.

    • +1

      Many many people have had a Google home in Australia for a year now (myself included).

      What software are you worried about not working?

      • Not personally worried, but there's a lot of indecision because many people are in the dark.
        Any potential problems are not likely to be in the software, but its awareness of our Australian geographic. and nuances.

        • All you have to do is update the language to Australian English. There's 0 difference then between this and the version sold here. I bought the version here to support Google bringing it here. (very un-ozbargain I know)

        • No, there's not any indecision anywhere… No one has said there are any software nuances that won't work here, apart from you! :-P

          @bejahi:

          If you're new here, then please stop wasting our time;
          at least bother to search through previous Google Home posts for others asking the very same question.

        • @cheepwun:

          Why even bother replying with this crap?

          Go peddle your agenda somewhere else.

          @willoz:

          Why even bother replying with this crap?

          I don't know. Possibly because you love your slavery and support those who enjoy a super-low tax rate and love those tax loopholes, which you seem to equate with needing your support. And possibly because you love to support those who love to sew up deals to spy on everything you do.

          Go peddle your agenda somewhere else

          My agenda? I don't work for Google and have no association with their competitors either. Everyone knows these are facts. Everyone who bothers to look into it from multiple sources. Not sure why you are so offended.

          Google needs your support. Well done bro.

        • @cheepwun:

          Maybe slow down and read what I said.

          I didn't say support Google, I said support Google bringing it to Australia.

          Everyone know these are facts, just because I said so.

          @willoz:
          What makes you think I didn't read what you said?

          Does Google need your money? Are they some struggling corporation? Are you even a grain of sand on their shore? Why reward parasites? You paid more, right? So you paid more to support them bringing it to Australia.

          Why?
          Because you love your slavery, apparently. You love Google, despite all their activities. Probably no other reason?

      • "We source internationally; a foreign adapter may be included in the packaging."

        It will work but you will probably need to source your own plug/adapter.

        • Thanks; but the $2 adapter is not really the concern.

        • Would it not need to convert the voltage for AUS standard?

        • +1

          @chrism238:

          You might might want took into that more. I think you'll find you may be concerned lol.

          Anyways, just answering your original post - US version probably applies to the Power Adapter only.

        • @chrism238:
          No need to be concerned about anything, all you have to do is change the language to AU and everything works like an AU version.

        • @Keef:

          You might might want took into that more. I think you'll find you may be concerned lol.

          Why, what's your unstated hidden concern? lol, jeez.

          The supplied step-down transformer is 110-240v, so it just required the $2 country->AUS plug/adapter.

        • @chrism238:
          Don't be concerned, my mate has one and it works perfectly.
          No need for concern.

          @theguyrules:

          Thanks (everyone).

    • there's no regional Google Home, they're all the same.
      It's the software (on your phone/tablet) sets the region (Assistant Language). you can even change the region with any VPN/DNS trickery.

      Here's how you do it

      I got a US one back in March, had it working as US, UK, now Oz.

  • OK US version, I have to speak in US accent for it to work?

    • +1

      Just keep asking it gun questions

    • +9

      Yup, I bought the UK version and it'll only turn on if I say 'Ello gov'na.

    • You may have to speak slower.

  • +1

    I bought my Home from this exact seller. Comes with an AU plug adapter and you just set it as Australia in Settings and it works fine. In fact with this deal I'm almost tempted to get another one. I ordered on a Friday and had it the following Wednesday, sent via DHL.

  • Got one from the US. Works perfectly. I paid $230 and don't regret it. For $139 it's a great deal. They'e such great devices.

    • +1

      What do you use it for ?

      • Me wonder too …

      • IFTTT (control TV, AC and lights), shopping list, listen to spotify, timer, etc

  • I will need to change a lot of devices to fit the purpose? Like light, music player?

    • I'd say the best additional is a Youtube red/Google Music subscription.

      Yeelights (using IFTTT) are cheap addons (~$25).
      Chromecast (unless your TV has one built in).

      One thing the mics are sensitive, so if you've got young kids forever talking/playing ipads loud, it can be difficult to get your question/request understood.

      • Is it feasible to hook these up to a hifi system? Other than getting it to cast to your Chromecast plugged into a tv hooked up to a hifi system?

        • +1

          Alas I don't believe so.

        • I have in-ceiling speakers and was hoping this could bluetooth out to them like the Echo Dot.
          Looks like the bluetooth update only works the other way though, playing the source on the Google Home.

      • Can it play music you have uploaded/sync with Play Music?

        Amazon Dot can do it but Amazon only allow upload of 250 songs vs Google 50000 songs limit.

        • I made youtube music as my default, which means any thing uploaded by someone to Youtube is available.

          But apparently you can if you've got a Google Music/Youtube Red` subscritpion

          https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/7030379?hl=en
          see the Advanced voice commands for free and subscription services section

        • Yep looks like it.

          "Uploaded/purchased music: On top of the subscription or free radio service, you can listen to music you’ve uploaded to and purchased on Google Play Music."

          On a side note, is there any way of setting up Amazon Music with a non-US account? I didn't have any luck when I tried a little while ago.
