  • Déjà vu

  • Does anyone have this and can comment on the quality? Been eyeing the Neato BotVac model but this is significantly cheaper and the reviews are quite fantastic. Would prefer to hear back from someone's personal use though!

    • +1
      • legend, thank you!

    • +3

I love this Xiaomi robot vacuum, it does a great job.

    • +2

      As above. Fantastic little machine.

    • Absolutely love it! Great logic, sensors and suction.
Cleans pet hair well too (german shep!)

    • one of the best device I ever had

    • I have the botvac connect and my parents have the xiaomi…very similar I think…app for botvac slightly better but that's about it I think. Save yourself a few $$$ and get the xiaomi…

    • Works well except gets caught on rug tassels

  • Hmmm I have a Dyson… do I need this too?

    • It picks up stuff left behind by the Dyson cordless on carpet. Only because it moves slower so more thorough with brushing. Overall Dyson would be more thorough if you could be bothered vacuuming slowly.

      • Thanks mate! I definitely can't be bothered vaccomijg slowly.

        • +2

Or typing slowly either it seems ;)

    • It depends how you want to vacuum.
If you have time/effort to vacuum regularly with a full size vacuum cleaner (like my mother), then you probably won't find much use for this.
But if you leave this run a few times a week, you will only have to do a manual vacuum far less frequently.

      • Thanks for the feedback. I've got two young kids who leave toys everywhere. Maybe too many obstacles for this thing to handle

        • I've got the same problem but it didn't stop me ordering one. Only one way to find out.

        • yup. same situation.
I'm going to just introduce it slowly, room by room: "Kids, no more toys in the dining room, that's where the robot patrols now"

        • +1

@damion: we all know how this will end. Your robotvac eating your kids toys.

  • +1

    You should buy this cvas.

    • +2

      I certainly think I should

  • +2

Pulled the trigger, hope it's as good as the reviews!

  • +18

These are crap. Bought mine for the Roboguy deal and it doesn't even do anything. In fact, I don't even know where it is.

    • +1

Have you tried turning it off and back on again? Also, is it plugged in?

      • +1

I am sure rorymeister would LOVE to turn his vacuum on or even off
I think his vaccum is cleaning up someone elses house

    • +1

      Sailed back to china

      • +1

Unsure if it even left china in the first place.

        • +2

Of course it did. He has a tracking number, just because it's invalid doesn't make it less of a tracking number.

    • Mate…surely paypal should approve a refund now…

      • 31 days and counting with with me.

    • Last I heard it was stuck in the X-ray machine Melbourne customs… LOL.

      • Guy operating the xray machine is on annual leave. So will just have to wait.

  • +1

i wanted one but when the wife found out it doesn't wash the floors too, she said no.

    she's hard to please

    • +2

My wife saw some robo-mops but I haven't looked into the quality of them. Wonder if Xiaomi make one of those too… I'd be keen

      • +9

If these guys make a mop as good as their vac then i'm sold. Will give my wife the redundancy papers the same day!

        • +3

Who will empty the container then?

    • +2

My wife wondered why no-one's invented a lawnmower with this design yet. My son pointed out it would probably run over the cat.

      • Yes they have been invented and are for sale, just do a Google search.

  • +2

not sure if the ebay discount code applies to GearBite too which I would probably recommend buying from rather than SS based on the fact that at least GearBite offers 1 year local warranty whereas Shopping Square doesn't really mention this at all other than this from the top of the ebay listing:

    Item location:
Warranty Service in Australia, Hong Kong

not sure what this means, ie. covered for warranty in Australia ie. 2 years and in Hong Kong??

  • +2

Fk me here we go again.

  • Waiting for new model -_-

    runs away

  • Anyone got a shaggy rug and one of these? Does it get stuck on the rug or does it know not to go over it?

    • +2

I've got a pretty chunky shaggy rug. Goes over it no problems. Couldn't recommend this thing enough.

    • Will get stuck on rug tassels
They wind up in brush and it turns off

  • Buy it, picked up stuff left by dyson.
App is good also just download the English language pack and check for firmware upgrade

  • Thanks been waiting for a deal on one ordered

  • When do you enter the code? Before or after clicking "buy it now"?

  • No more vacuuming … sounds good. Can these robots clean more rooms … so they find the door and go to the next room or are they restricted to one room? Sounds all good to be true … :-)

    • +2

It will roam and clean every room it can access.

Had mine from Gearbite, after less than a month of occasional cleaning (5 times or less?) the front wheel start getting a bit rough and having a lot of friction noise while it's moving and cleaning on tiles, contacted seller and they had it sent back to them to look at for free, anyone else has the same issue? Maybe is the type of tiles I have is a bit rough? On carpet it's fine but in tiles that's a lot of noise and it doesn't move smoothly anymore too, after every turn, it starts shaking and bumping like it's moving on a bumpy road :(
But good customer service from Gearbit though reply straight away and had it sent back to them to check for free

    • No issues with mine yet, use 4 times a week for the past month I've had it. Did manage to get a piece of kinder surprise stuck in the wheel compartment though.

    • I'm loving mine, doing an outstanding job. Very occasionally I've heard a different type of noise as it goes along my tiles but nothing I've been too concerned about as yet. Would be interested to hear if they find a fault with yours and what their check shows up. Keep us (me!) in the loop!

    • Mine only makes a lot of noise when something is stuck in the main brush or when there's an uneven bit of floor. We have windowsills which are just above floor level and it makes a hell of a racket trying to get up on them to clean the 2 inches of windowsill.

    • I'm having the same issue with the unit I've just received today. Perfect on carpet, but on tiles it's making an unpleasant juddering/grinding noise which I suspect is coming from the main brush getting slightly caught on the uneven tiles.

How have you gone with getting yours sorted? I'm really happy with the unit other than this one issue so hoping it's easy enough to fix up

      • After they received the one I sent back, They sent me a new unit without looking into the problems yet. the new unit is not as bad as the old one, but still giving the similar noise

  • Does anyone actually replace the filters and brushes on these things? Or is it money spinner

    • Mine's not old enough yet. I can see why the HEPA filter needs replacement, it gets full of dust and never quite gets clean from tapping it (you're not supposed to rinse it). The brushes still look fine after two months but I can believe they will need a replacement after 12 months or so.

    • The app shows the status and how much is left in these.
Having said that, you can easily reset the counters and not bother.

  • Can someone that has one let me know if I can relocate the base of this without confusing the hell out of it? ie. Put it on one side of the house one day, and relocate the base to the other side of the house the next? Will it still find its base ok to recharge, or will it screw up the mapping? I close off half the house from pets while I am at work, so I would have to move it to the other side on alternative days.

    Robot sized cat flap?

    • It remaps your house with each new clean, so you can move the base from day to day and it will be fine. If you move the base during a clean it will try to return to where the base was and get confused and just stop. Same if you close doors between it and the base, it will just stop and complain it doesn't know how to get back.

      • cool, thanks.

        • it will also get confused if you have to move the robo due to an error (sucked up an item, stuck robo) and place it back down again. mine created a map on top of the other map that was 90 degrees opposite.

Only other downside is the stair sensor means it refuses to clean our black rug (rest of house is baltic pine). Given we are on a single level, I'm hopeful for an update that can disable the sensor.

otherwise, its a gem and knocks our aldi robo for 6.

        • @lethalmoney: Are you putting it back down the same way/approx same position it was in before? I've picked mine up before when it's complained of a blockage in the brush (or paused it and done the same when I can hear it dragging something in the brush) and it's been able to continue as if nothing happened.

I'm surprised that they don't give you a way to switch off (or change the sensitivity of) the stair sensor in the app - would make sense for people like you with no ledges for it to drop off, but a rug that's detected as a drop.

        • @WazzaP:

Yea wazza. I am. Only had it happen twice early on. doesn't get stuck on anything now.

The aldi used to struggle with floor vents and slight raises. Not is much better

  • +1

Maps out your floor plans and sells them to the highest bidder ✔️

    • +1

there's a guy on ozb who insists cia, fbi, nsa, foreign governments and our mums and dads use xiaomi products to monitor us… where is he? i'm sure he'd agree with your insight! :p

      • +1

Maybe they got to him already XD

        • That would be ironic!

      • +2

Roomba has already admitted they are or will be selling floor plans to advertisers.

  • Pulled the trigger

  • GearBest just sent me an email offering this for $319.99 + $16.93 shipping.

    • Little thing called currency conversion you might want to take into account champ. They usually advertise in USD

      • Those bastards.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd down vote my own comment if I could.

  • Are these coming from Australia ?

Its been nearly a week and aupost, still hasnt delivered and their tracking shows…

Never seen this before, 5 days and they "have it"…

    • +1

Mine was from overseas. delivered on the 8th business day.

  • Tried to buy it from NZ using the recent deals but the sellers said they don't ship to NZ. Will have to
wait for the better deal from banggood or gearbest.

  • ordered 15 aug; delivered 25 aug - 8 business days - great! (shopping square; tech20 ebay deal; also $350)
actual robot: replaces faulty botvac 85 bought oct 2014 for $800 (repaired once; same error recurred; fiddly workaround got it going occasionally)
struggled a little with the app (had to select mainland china as the locale); after that 100%
    couldn't be happier
