New toy temptation - must resist

    • +1

Don't bother, just buy it 😀

I bought one during a previous gearbyte/eBay deal and haven't looked back

      • agree, dont wait, just buy

  • +4

Have one and love it. Coming from a Roomba that costed more than double this is quite a step up. Well worth it at this price.

    • agree, coming from LG roboking, this is way better and cheap

  • +1

Great deal. I have one and it is amazing. A device that actually gives you time back in your life to do more important/exciting things than vacuuming the whole house. Bought it from a previous deal from OP and would recommend.

  • +4

Got one last time for my parents who are technophobes. Dad set it up himself and installed the English pack. They now love sitting there watching where it goes on the ipad, controlling where it goes with the remote and the fact that you can ask it where it is. it's like a new member of the family to them

    • Haven't done this. What happens when you ask where it is?

      • +8

Theres a button in the app which if you dont know where it is. when you push it the vacuum will say "Im over here"

        • +3

I have an LG something or other and would love this feature. It's constantly stuck somewhere and we spend ages trying to find what it's stuck on or under.

    • +19

That cracks me up. A set and forget item which people get excited about and track diligently.

  • +3

Another here who can't recommend the Xiaomi Mi robo vac highly enough.

Purchased through the last Gearbite deal a few weeks ago, was posted out promptly, very easy to set up and absolutely loving it so far! Amazed at how good a job it does, plus the quality of the cleaning and what it manages to pick up even 24 hours after use.

Set it to vacuum the house yesterday morning on 'Turbo' mode (highest suction), left for work, tracked it on my mobile, it had to recharge once with about one room of the house to go then finished it off. Took about 2 hours all up.

    Brilliant!

    • but how do u know it cleaned thoroughly and not randomly

      • +3

The app shows you the path it took to do the cleaning.

  • +10

I had no plans to buy a vacuum cleaner until I saw this post…

All the positive comments don't help either.

    • Welcome to Ozbargain.

    • Same here.

Now I feel that I need it …

      • +2

        You do need it.

The savings are too great to resist.

You will regret it if you miss out.

If you buy now, its like you are saving money.

You can spend less time vacuuming, and more time ozbargaining.

        • +2

"If you buy now, its like you are saving money."

Not sure this will work when I'll show the invoice to the minister of finance and housing.

        • +2

@Jayjay93: the key is the same Minister is usually the Minister for cleaning too ;)

  • +4

Great device and it very well made too. A big thumbs up to Xiaomi, their engineering and manufacturing team. Wish the dust bin was a bit larger!

  • +2

    Sucky deal :P

  • +13

wonder why no one has said "awesome device, got mine from the recent deal through Roboguy"…oh, wait…….

    • +1

      Hilarious ! ! !

I'll get mine one day. I will !

In fact, I've been informed that it's on this ship - www.vesselfinder.com/?imo=9431757 - Due to arrive next week.

      GC (I'm crying over here…)

      • +1

I emailed back and forth to roboguy asking for a refund or a discount since the item was way overdue, they responded with something along the lines of "we're not obligated to return your money". I opened a dispute and got my money back a few days ago, great timing with this deal too!

  • +5

Noticed that the top cover on mine was starting to get scratched, possibly from going under tight spaces. Did some random googling and found these cute customisation options!

    • They need Rosie from the Jetsons. I may have already named mine.

      • +1

        Mine is Rosie! :)

        • +2

          Mine is also named Rosie.

      • I've named mine "the maid"

      • +1

        Ours is WALL-E

      • Mine is called Stark (ordered an Iron Man sticker for him)

    • people customise… their vacuum cleaners??…

      • You can even get decals that you can stick on it

      • +1

On the next episode of pimp my vacuum.

        /xzibit

    • Paul Frank looks cool, but I've already named mine Jeff!

  • +4

    Ok guys,

Have seen this deal pop up multiple times and im 90% there:

Got mainly tiles with carpet in the bathrooms and a coffee table sitting on a rug in the living room. 4br house. Would this thing rise to the challange?

I have a security system as well. Will this thing make me go Oscar Pistorius moving in the night?

    • -4

      Too soon

    • I'm also interested. Does it do as good a job as manually vacuuming?

      • -1

No way.. I'm keen on it, but lets face it, it isn't a Dyson in the power department. It'll also take hours to vac a 3-4 bedroom house..

        • Obviously it won't have the pure horsepower of a full size vac, but as I mentioned above, I'm amazed at how good a job it does do. For reference, my 4 bedroom house is done in 2 hours on 'Turbo' mode (highest suction).

    • I have mostly tiles and it deals with them really well. Really good for getting under the couch, tv cabinet and beds. Handles the carpet really well. The only thing it gets stuck on for me is the high shag carpet, so it just leaves it alone.

One time it pulled a phone charger out of the wall as well because I forgot to pick the cable up off of the floor! It is surprisingly strong.

      • So if it hits something it can't vac it will back off or go around…? i.e. that high shag carpet?

        • Yeah, it will 'circle' the object with the side brush for lack of a better term. Does its best to clean around it and along the border of it. Does the same with table legs, clothes and shoes I leave lying around, etc.

        • @freshchard:

Have you got a security system?

        • @bemybubble: Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I'm pretty sure you can give it a schedule when to vac, and just make sure your alarm sensors are disabled during those hours.

        • @damion:

I wish I could but when I leave home i turn it on. When I come home I turn it off. Can't remotely schedule it :(

  • What accessories do you guys recommend and where from?

  • I have got 2 other Robot Vacuums before XiaoMi Robot
and XiaoMi one is the ever best robot I have been using

Haven't got chance to try the famous iRobot
but XiaoMi is less than half the price and works really well and intelligently

  • -4

Well it may well have 12 different types of sensors, but i don't and i'm pretty sure i'd end up either tripping over it or stepping on it.

  • Sold out? Getting 'This code can't be applied to your order.'

    • Paying via PayPal?

      • Yes

        • Figured it out. My eBay account wasn't an Oz account. Switched it over and working fine now. Thanks

  • Is there regular maintainance needed on this? Like filters and bags once in a while?

    • No bags.
Filter and side brushes need cleaning once in a while.
The app will tell you the % left on them.
You will need to empty out the dustbin too (usually after each clean depending on how big your place is).

  • +1

So….. after the Roboguy debacle (and thankfully getting a refund), I thought maybe it was a sign that I didn't actually need a robot vacuum.
Looks like I was proven wrong.
Have placed an order wth estimate delivery by Wednesday! And for a saving of $40 on what I would have orignally paid!

    Thanks!! Woo

    • you were same as me, i thought i might skip, but couldnt resist.

  • +1

Wow just bought one, awesome price. Now I have my own pet yayyy…

  • +1

Anyone able to confirm whether the charging station plugs directly into 240VAC or does it come with a plugpack (i.e. step-down transformer)? Reason for asking is that I notice description states CN plug included, if it comes with a plugpack I can easily replace with a local c-tick version for safety reasons. Thanks.

  • poop. bought the shopping square one yesterday - OzBargain

    • You really don't want any poop lying around when this thing is running. I read a hilarious blog somewhere on how it turned out - ugly.

  • Hi Rep

I just brought it last night, can i get refund for the price different?

    • -1

They can't refund you the coupon as its run by eBay.

You could ask them to cancel your transaction and rebuy.

  • +1

Really want one of these but I recently installed a floordrobe in my room and not sure how it'd go with all the clothes.

    • +1

      Had to google floordrobe 😂
If you're talking about leaving clothes lying all over the floor, then it's probably just going to tangle up and the vacuum will stop running until they're removed.

      • That's what a floordrobe is. Very convenient.

        • +3

A pleasant side-effect of getting a robot vacuum is that it encouraged me to keep floor clutter to a minimum

        • +2

          @kacak:

You're saying that my wife will be happy that the floor is clothes free? I could actually buy this and she would be happy?

  • Anyone with a Neato Botvac able to provide a comparison? i've had Neatos for years and really love them, but the feedback I read about this seems really positive, and it also seems to be much more feature rich (not too mention a lot cheaper).

Also how does it handle out of bounds areas?

    • +1

My last was a botvac80. This thing navigates better in my opinion. If you already have boundary markers for your neato they will work with mi robot as well.

Just go for it, you won't be disappointed.

  • Looks like its sold out????

Never mind, it worked on mobile but not on desktop

  • I bought one from the last deal with Gearbite. I let it vacuum every 2nd day and was really surprised how much of a good job it does. It even vacuums under the beds! One Problem I'm still having, is it goes haywire at the end of its cleaning.

    • Can you elaborate? Mine obediently returns to the charging dock if it's on the same level. If I took it upstairs and it fails to find the dock, it'll just return to its starting point and go to sleep.

      Such a well-behaved pet

      • Part of the mapping was getting corrupted at the end of cleaning and couldn't return to dock. So yesterday I put the dock in a different local. This time the mapping was fine but for some reason, near the end of finishing, it started to act erratically and not doing the normal motion . So I had to turn it off. Strange that it happens near or at the end of completeing the house.

        • Check for updates, maybe loss off WiFi in that part of the house, or it's on black surface?

        • @spriggan43: The Robot has been updated. The WIFI is good and no black surfaces on the floor. Tried putting the dock into another part of the house today. About 20 minutes into the clean the vacuum stopped and had a error 5, which is foreign object in brush. Check the brush, all o.k and let it continue. Near the end of cleaning house, the same thing happened, the Robot doesn't know where it is. I think I have a faulty robot.

        • @telby: I had an error 5 before, cleared the item a sock, still had the code, because the housing for the brush needed to be pushed back together, no fault just one of the kids socks unclipped the brush.

item 5 says to “clear the fishing line and bearing of the main brush” maybe just a build-up of hair, I have 3 girls in my house, when I first started using this robot I had to clear that bush every day, it was too good in finding long hair.

          https://files.xiaomi-mi.com/files/vacuum_cleaner/vacuum_clea…

        • @telby: Just had the robot to something odd, my kids where trying to play with it, and i noticed it lost its place on the map it was appearing meters away where it was thinking it was on the map, and started thinking pathways were closed, it kept going back and forth and bumping into the same wall.

    • +1

I end up in a pretty shitty mood by the time I'm near the end of cleaning too. Can't blame it

  • Win!!

    I ordered 2. Thanks!! :)

  • Has anyone owned this for a long period of time? Wanting to know its durability and whether they've noticed a loss of suction over time.

    • +1

I've had one for about 9 months - still flying.

Just got to keep it clean I think.
I regularly clean mine out and remove any hair or bits wrapped up in the brushes and I've washed out the filter once as well.

You can buy spare parts (like filters and brushes) online relatively cheap so I might do that next.

      • hey @Deviner,

how'd you go with washing the filter? i believe instructions says it's not supposed to be washed.

        • +2

It was absolutely caked in dirt as I never changed it out.
It's definitely due to be completely replaced but I tried to squeeze some extra life out of it.

So I just rinsed it under a tap and left it outside for half a day to dry it.

          Working fine!

Instructions may want you not washing it because that's free and they get no money out of that.. :P

        • @Deviner:

haha awesome. i'll give it a go (have a spare anyway and the current one is approaching it's end of life).

  • +1

Bit the bullet, kept resisting on the last few deals on this gadget.

  • Can this thing climb from say a polished floor board to an IKEA rug?

    • Yes.
Check out the youtube videos - should show you everything.

  • +1

can you program this thing to tell it where to go? or do i have to close off doors to restrict access?
i mean - once it maps out my house (if it does this) can i mark areas it shouldn't go?

    Thanks in advance

    • +1

I haven't been able to find a way to do this, but was also looking for a similar function. I'd like to sometimes tell it which area to clean rather than let it explore all areas that it can reach.

      • Actually, just found out that the "Spot" clean function on the app sort of cleans a specific area so may do the job. Only drawback is it decides by itself how big an area to clean.
