        maybe some people find paying an 'expert', not a 'bargain'.

        besides, most people's tax returns involve just filling out the right fields, but i suppose, someone decided to find the gap in the ATO's offering and found that ITP / H&R Block were just over-charging, and decided to create a simple form to guide people in entering their details.

        they don't give financial advice like a 'planner' or 'adviser' unless they are in that game as well.
        public accountants do audits if they are licensed. they have long given advice as consultants with very clear ethical codes and standards.
        these are not audits and normally done by a different division so there is no conflict of interest.
        they can do other tasks as well.

        accountants can give financial advice as in financial planning if they get the license which asic requires all 'planners' to obtain. i just found out that 80% of planners may only have done a 5 day course! the law is changing to require a degree.

  Surely lodging through mytax is easier. PAYG payment summaries are prefilled for you already.

  If you're gonna pay for an agent, might aswell have someone there in front of you.

  $29.95……Qualified accountants…..I'm sceptical. Looks like ATO's electronic lodgement system that passes through a group of accountants before being lodged.

  Anyway, as JV would say - "Where's the bargain". What price was it before?

    From websites FAQ page:

    Do I need to send my group certificate to ezytaxback.com?

    No, there is no need to send documents to us. However, you need to keep your records for at least 7 years from the date you lodged your tax return.

    Pretty sure it's only 5 years for most tax payers! Being qualified accountants, I thought you would have known this!

    With the oversupply in law and accounting graduates wages are falling. Lets assume that the accountants are being paid $20/hour. Revenue required to cover the cost of a consultant can be roughly estimated as 3 * hourly rate = $60 hour. So 30 minutes per tax return is the best you can expect, however it is likely to be less, because the average qualified accountant salary in Australia is $42/hour.

    Now it depends if the qualified accountant is as defined in s88B of the Corporations Act or it means someone who has completed a relevant degree but doesn't have membership of a professional body at the required classification. If it is the later then I wouldn't be surprised if the qualified accountant is located overseas.

  Did my tax and my wife's tax on Monday in under 15 minutes combined. Just about everything was automatically pre-filled through MyGov.

  The wife got a text yesterday saying that her refund amount was approved and it was direct deposited into our account today.

  I'm not sure paying $29.95 would have saved me any more time or made it any easier. Clicking through the 5 or so pre-filled screens and adding the one amount for annual work related expenses on the deductions page could not have been any simpler.

  For a price reference my HR Block tax cost was $184 (less 2 x $25 from Amex deal). It was a bit more than normal as I had my car logbook expenses to process as well. Got my refund 6 days later.

  Did anyone try them?

  There are a lot of on-line alternatives (that also do much older tax returns) but none were as cheap once you include "rental property, foreign income and additional schedules." eLodge was very helpful on-line but would cost $79.95 if you have a rental property (https://www.elodge.com.au/Pricing/).

  The biggest concern is that there aren't any reviews on-line and from quick research it seems to be an off-shoot of Rees Group, which has been involved in a lot of dodgy companies (http://www.aph.gov.au/DocumentStore.ashx?id=8385daa6-9ea3-4e….). I don't want to increase my chances of getting audited…
