  • Good deal. However, for those who want an i7 and touch screen, I think the hp spectre x360 from computer alliance is a better deal at $1514 delivered.

      HP
      Better Deal

These XPS laptops also come with a much better warranty coverage Premium Support which means next-day onsite technician, replacement part or unit (depending on service contract) will be dispatched if necessary following phone-based troubleshooting. The phone support is the best I've experienced where you get an L1/L2 representative who can walk you through the whole process professionally and quickly.

        Curious. Are they indian/filipino?

        • Aussies every time I've called

      • Chose the Spectre.
Really wanted to get the XPS 13 - But for the comparable model (2in1) it was just too much.
$2,400 (Before Code) for an i5, 256GB SSD.
The HP was 1,970 (Before Code) with an i7 and 500GB SSD and I think a larger capacity battery.

      • XPS laptops also come with a much better warranty

They need it due to the poor quality control. My XPS 15, XPS 13 and even the cheap Inspiron had issues. My old XPS 17 was brilliant though…

    • Could you give us a link to the HP deal? Thanks.

i tend to stay away from HP - had so many problems with them in the past. the xps is nice a small for a 13inch. i think i5 or i7 wont be a huge difference in everyday life. but for $100 more its pretty good. i bought the xps last night for my brother - seen them in real life - nice little unit.

Agree, HP was a nightmare, and I got 2 of them. Both not working properly after 1 year, and complete bricked after 3.

I hate to be the one that brings this up again, but have they finally fixed the coil whine issues?

    • +1

Almost bought and posted this deal when 'PLAYER' went live, but didn't want to risk coil whine :/

    • Bought this from the last deal, a few months ago and have had no issues!

    • i got an xps 13 from the last deal and haven't experienced any issues

      • Did you try putting your ear close, with volume off to test it? Scroll wheel in file explorer usually aggravates coil whine.

        • if you need to do that, then for most people it wont worry them as your not that close.

        • @porsche26c:

No. Some people don't have good hearing. That test is to ensure there's no coil whine. Maybe you won't hear it in normal use, but someone else might.

  • Anyone know when the 8th Generation is to be released? Can only be a few months away right?

      Should be late this year.

Does it have a touch screen? How much it weighs?
    Thanks.

it's all in the ebay listing.. lol

    • touch screen models won't be that price

Remember to keep 16gb ram as minimum, if you use chrome.

    • True, Chrome is a memory hog.

  • Keep in mind the coil whine and touch pad lift. After ordering over 60 for our business, we have had over 50% returned due to hardware failure.

    • How long ago was that?

Can you also explain the touch pad lift?

      • We have been having issues with models over the last 1.5 years.

The TouchPad literally starts to lift up from the bottom. It has happened on over 20 of the 60 we have gone through. We have 30 employees btw. Some have lasted with no issues, some have been replaced, and the replacement laptops (newer) have then had to be replaced etc etc etc.

  • Yep - have a Core i7 with coil whine, and the touch pad issues. Of the 4 we bought for our business, 1 was a complete failure early, another was serviced 3 times. They all whine. More recent replacements are with Latitudes.

    • Hmm. I might wait for 8th gen model before buying an XPS. Hope they have the problem fixed by then. Surely they must?

      • whats the ETA on that?

        • The chips are due late 2017 if there's no delay.

Laptops usually get the chips before desktop users. So I think either Q4 '17 or Q1 '18.

If you need it now, you're probably safe buying this. Dell has good warranty and will service it if you get coil whine or you can get a refund within 14 days.

I'm just waiting because I don't need it now, and I'm hoping that whatever issues plagued the XPS from 6th gen and 7th gen will be gone when they start anew with 8th gen CPUs. Dell are aware of the problem, so I would hope when they design the next set of XPS for 8th gen CPUs, they will resolve the issue. Though I do admit that hope is based on nothing more than faith.

  • Hi, please recommend if I should get Thinkpad X270, XPS 13, HP Spectre x360 or another model. I have been using Thinkpads for a long time.. my x240 is still doing well but I need to get a new one it will be used for coding. Thanks

    • XPS13 is the best. But also most expensive. And some people do get coil whine.

  • What's the bloatware like on Dells these days?

  • Wow. Pretty comparable to the old xiaomi notebook air

  • Did anyone buy it off ebay store and if so how long did it take to ship?
