    No NFC.

    • +4

Was that ever in doubt? The description does not say it has NFC.

    • what is the big deal with NFC? 99.99% of the time i carry my Drivers Lic, 2 or 3 extra bank card wrap around my Driver Lic with rubber band makes no difference…

      • +2

        Well it does actually.

NFC lets you use Android Pay. If you've got an American Express Credit Card, there have been quite a few promotions/competitions with Android Pay so you'd need an Android phone with NFC to be able to take advantage of them.

edit: What was the relevance of your licence btw? How does NFC come into the picture?

        • +2

I have AMEX, current android pay promo is 2 points per $1 spend. Cheapest similar spec with NFC phone is Lenovo P2 at around $300 aud. @ $130 diff, I rather keep $130 in my pocket then trying to get it back with AMEX thru points…

        • @711yucca: I'm not suggesting you buy a phone for the purpose of chasing AMEX points or qualifying for other promos/competitions. You just asked what the importance of it was and I answered your question. I agree with you - I'd rather pocket the $130 too.

So how does NFC relate to a drivers licence?

        • +4

@illumination: So how does NFC relate to a drivers licence?
I have to carry my driver’s licence 99.99% when I go out anyways. Extra 2 -3 credit/debit card I don’t have to carry if I’ve NFC phone is not going to make a difference…

        • +1

          @711yucca:

Actually, in NSW it's expected that driver's licences will become digital in 2019 (https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/20150_Dig…). RSA/RCG/Recreational fishing digital licences are already available.

Australia's drive to become one of the first fully-fledged digital societies is both exciting and terrifying. In the future a person wrongly marked as enemy-of-the-state will be severely limited in options for emancipation.

        • @peterpeterpumpkin: Got another 18 months i'm sure NFC tech will be the norm by then. Agree it is both exciting and terrifying at the same time. After NFC on our mobile phone is as you know it microchip implant to our body…

      • Well, I use Android Pay all the time, so no NFC would be super annoying.

  • +1

    Great price for this phone.

Coupon is limited to first 50 orders.

It is a International Version and comes with Global ROM and supports OTA updates

  • Has anyone upgraded from a Redmi Note 2 to this and can comment? Feel like mine is on its last legs..!

    • +1

Buy now. Justify the purchase later. :)

    • Yes dual SIM works fine …..the note2 went to eBay

      • +1

Oh I didn't really mean the dual SIM functionality in particular.. but on that note, the dual SIM of the Note 4 is 4G/3G isn't it?

How much did you manage to get for your Note 2 on ebay?

        • yes, does 3G /4G on dual sims, $80 for the note 2 on ebay, as new condition with a leather flip case.

        • @garage sale:

Note 2 is $80USD from Lightinthebox right now.

        • mine came with a case and they had it in 3 days not 4 weeks ….. depends if they needed a phone or just wanted a phone and can wait.

    • +2

If the jump was anything like going from the Redmi Note 2 to the Redmi Note 3, you won't be disappointed! The main things I noticed after upgrading were the battery life is miles ahead, the performance seems much smoother, and I think the phone feels more solid in the hand. I can only imagine the Redmi Note 4 would be even better again.

  • +4

And to think I was at The Good Guys today, and was told their cheapest phone was a Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini for $149 (although a Telstra locked, $99 version is also available)

    • -6

      So ??

      • +4

i.e. compare that phone to this one (with price in mind) and see the gulf in class between the two!!

        • -7

How is J1 going to compare with Redmi note 4x…..

Totally owned by Redmi. Other than that it's called Samsung which wins

        • +7

@lovepub: My point is price-wise they are not far off each other (put aside the fact that one's Australian stock vs import)..
yet are so far apart in terms of quality!

    • +1

Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini is bloody terrible, what're your guys even talking about?! all those negged @lovepub

      • similar priced - but 5 years older phones were better than J1!

      • yeah ….. less than 1080p phones should be banned, worse for landfill and the environment than plastic bags.

  • which has better bands the note 4 or the note 4x?

    • -3

It really doesn't matter about bands unless you use Optus in rural area. city boys won't matter at all.

      • with optus but not rural.

new redmis are coming out soon. i might hold off for a little while.

        • +1

Yeah ….android 7 OTA and band 28 before I'd buy another Xiaomi.

        • @garage sale: Band 28 really is needed in rural areas. You have 3G fallback in case you need to ring.

OTA not sure but the phone is getting Nougat so that is a plus, notwithstanding that O is about to be released.

Also remember the price that you are paying for thr phone as well.

Also can you confirm that Xiaomi provides security updates outside of whole OS updates?

        • @garage sale: not going to happen ever again by the looks of it.

Band 28 was only for Taiwan and the carrier's there for the last few releases of Redmi and Mi 6 etc have snubbed band 28.

        • band 28 is starting to be used also in some European countries ….. most manufacturers that sell phones outside of china, Huawei, ZTE, etc have band 28 models ….. Xioami are mainly for domestic market.

        • Question: has anyone turned on band 28 and tested in Australia against Telstra and Optus?
          How you ask:

  • Thank you @anthoneeyz grabbed one to replace my N5. Cheers!

  • Adreno 506 has 130 GFLOPS (in this SD625), giving this deal a yow-ratio of 130GF/$aud169 = .77

For context, .5 is pretty good, but some extraordinary deals go up to 2 or even 4.

    • +4

      wut

      • +1

        Makes sense to me.

  • Thanks op, was in the market for one of these for my old man. Perfect timing.

  • Use the code, price jumps to usd200+

    • yes, but the coupon will reduce the price. I got: Your subtotal: AU$173.57

  • +1

Not sure why this is expired, it worked for me, but I didnt go through with my purchase,

I feel my Redmi Note 2 can still survive for a little bit longer =)

Plus the Redmi Note 4x doesn't have fast charge??

    • +1

Doesn't need to… that battery last two days on the reviews. Pretty sure you can get through the day and whack on charge at night.

      • +1

Redmi note 3 gets day and a half with heavy usage so this should get two days or so. As said, doesn't really need quick charge.

  • Can someone confirm that this international model has expandable memory? i really just was going to buy the device to store tons of movies and im confused how the 2x sim/sd works on this international 3gbram version works! thanks in advance

    • +1

The SD card replaces a SIM in the draw.

      • Ah ok, appreciate it!

  • Official MIUI Global ROM? I want to buy one for my mother.

    • I heard some seller installs the fake ROM on the Xiaomi phones, which may contain virus or melware…

      • +5

You can use fakeGPS/Joystick to spoof your location outside Melbourne so that the "melware" doesn't affect you ;)

        • Haha very funny. 'Malware' I mean, but you got the idea.

        • @alexGoodwin:

You are correct. ALWAYS reflash the rom yourself. It's not hard.

  • +1

    Ivwish it had band 28

  • Why would you buy this one when Redmi Note 3 Pro can be had for a similar price?

    • Can you share what you think is better about the Redmi Note 3 Pro? I have read some other comments suggesting the Redmi Note 3 Pro may be better too and find it interesting. Something to do with the chipset?

      • RNP3 has a faster chipset and one additional band (B8) though the latter does not matter much unless you are on Vodafone. Everything else is exactly the same between the two. Moreover, it has community support and fully functional Lineage OS available.
        Check the comparison here:
        http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8580&idPhone2=…

        • I recall reading that there are differences between the camera and battery life though? (RN4 superior)

        • @illumination: Okkk. Not aware of this though. How much difference? I believe it would be marginal as both have an impressively good battery life and disappointing cameras.

        • I think it's only Telstra that use B8 on 4G.

        • @bamzero: You are actually right. Even Telstra use it in very few places so not a major concern.

        • Would you know if the RN3 is capable of 4G/3G for both sims??

Any new RNP3 Kate editions available still anywhere??

        • This also doesn't have AC wifi which the N3P does

  • The code worked at first but then I backed out to think about it a bit longer. Now it doesn't work. Oh well, might still grab it anyway!

  • anthoneeyz, can you ask them to re run the discount, I am interested in buying one.
