ripper deal, got those from another amazon.fr deal about a year ago with no dramas. reviews on the sound quality speak for themselves but i'll add that comfort is absolutely superb, can wear these for hours and hours with minimal fatigue.

  • I'm obviously getting old. I bought a pair of these last year on a deal from Amazon US. I honestly couldn't hear any difference compared to my cheapie Panasonic headphones so I sold them on eBay.

They did have a nice build quality though, and were very comfortable.

It could be your source? - crap in = crap out.

      • +6

Nah. I tried a bunch of different sources - Blu-ray through amp etc. No noticeable improvement for me.

My comment was not at all intended as a dig at these obviously decent headphones. Just that I tried them and realised that my ears are too old to be able to appreciate them.

  • Damn was hoping for a good deal on the hd650s

    • +8

Have you had a look at the Massdrop HD6xx? You'll have have to wait until December, but $270 delivered.

      • -6

Was contemplating that but after some research it seems that mass drop makes the headphones themselves not sennheiser (they just supply the material). It seems like they have been around 350 for local (addicted to audio) which is something I'm holding out for

        • The listing says that they're made by Sennheiser in Ireland.

        • +6

You get an F for your research. The HD6xx is made by Sennheiser ar their facility in Ireland.

Where in the world did you hear that GossipGoat? From ConfusedCat?

        • +3

@nereus: Looks like Ive been fed the wrong Gossip. I apologize :(

        • @GossipGoat: think positive, now you can get back to considering buying them :)

        • +1

@GossipGoat: Goats afterall will eat anything ;7)

      • +1

just got on board that yesterday, should be a nice chrissie present!

      • Can they still be ordered or are they sold out?

Literally 5 minutes left. Get on it!

I bought it Saturday. Can't wait.

        • @rorymeister: I fell asleep. But I'm kind of OK with it. I might wait till 598 is on again for $140, which would be half the price.

I buy too many headphones as it is, and I'm also waiting on a deal for MDR1000X.

        • @lostn:

I have the 598 and 1000x. Both excellent in their own way.

        • @rorymeister:

I looked into 598 vs 650 and it seems the sound stage is better on 598 and it's more suited to gaming than 650 is.

I still wanted the 6xx anyway just because of how cheap it is, but in a way I'm glad I saved some money.

Still though, the next time it's on I might be tempted again..

Do you find the 1000X comfortable after a 3 hour session with it? It was comfortable on my head when I tried them at JB, but I don't have 3 hours with it obviously.

        • @lostn:

Yes I do. A lot of people on here find the clamping to be vice like.

I have no such issues. Nor have I had issues with band creaking. They're an excellent set.

          They're reasonably comfortable

      • +1

Got a few cans already but couldn't say no to that one. Shipping expected to be around Dec tho so a sweet deal on a good enough amp/dac in the mean time would be tops :)

  • Pity. the open back is not on sale.

    • how does the sound quality compare to the open back for general usage?

      • +1

Different soundstage. Open backs have an airy open soundstage I like, and they're more comfortable to wear in hot days.

        • +1

Would have went for the open backed in a heartbeat, would be a perfect gift. Thanks for raising this.

        • awesome, I have the open back version. Sound is superb. But I can't really use it in public transport.

  • Do these ones have the little triangles in the earpieces like the 558s? Annoying for comfort.

EDIT: for clarity I'm talking about the lump you can see here http://audio46.com/wp-content/uploads/81vsWoKpHBL.SL1500.jpg

  • How are these in comparison to the Audio Technica M50s?

    • Less bass-heavy, should be 10x more comfy, less portable, probably better overall unless you need the portability or are a basshead

      • The ATH-M50X are the most comfortable headphones I own, how are these different? Are they lighter or something?

        • +1

Well I can wear them for a solid 14 hours and don't get any itching/sweating/clamping at all. Almost broke them a few times by waslking away because I forgot I had them on -_-

Cloth pads, clamp with the the perfect tightness, goes completely over-ear and doesn't rest on your lobes or whatever

  • FYI the sound quality of the 598C's aren't as good as the regular open 598's.

    Different drivers iirc

    • Even if the drivers are the same, the sound is usually nicer on Open

      • +2

That's true, but open headphones really aren't appropriate for use in a lot of places… Unless you have no issue being a dick to people around you when in a shared space.

        • +1

I listen to my 598se at work on low. At home, too. Out and about it's ANC or closed

  • Are these wired or wireless?

  • my hd 380 pro's are starting to come apart in the leatherette ear muff… i know they arent the best sennheisers going around, how do the two compare?

    • +1

The ear muffs are simple enough to replace - the cheapies on ebay aren't quite as soft as the originals, but work very well.

I am tempted by these, but I'll use the 380s as portables and think I'll get the 650s from Massdrop for home. These 598Cs would probably be the compromise between the two.

  • What does the C stand for?

    • Close back.

    • Closed back. There's an open back version with not letter on the end.

  • Cheers OP :)

  • i loved 598 much more than 650, although i sold 598 after i got 650. guess what? i sold 650 last year too.

  • Does the American Amazon login work for France or do I need to register a new account? Also where is the translate option? I'm using my mobile to try and do it.

    • My login works for all so yeah shouldn't be an issue. As for translating I just use google translate for bits here and there but generally don't really need it. Quite easy to follow if you are familiar with Amazon. Same ol same ol.

  • Would these work alright with mobile devices(samsung galaxy s7)

    • Yes, that will drive it fine. Though these are not the most portable headphones.

      • Yeah I am learning towards getting a pair of M50Xs, they look more portable and robust.
Do you by any chance know how sound quality compare between HD598Cs and M50xs?

  • Hmmmmmm tossing up between these or a pair of M50Xs, anyone have anything say in which is better?

    • I have the M50X. But only the 598 SE. So can't really compare but comfort and sound are far superior on the Sennheiser.

Another option for people with the same budget are these Sony cans w/ bluetooth and noise reduction (seem to be at their lowest price) Sell at JB for $299
