  • Where would I find the cheapest ink cartridges? It probably won't scam without it.

    • Scam? scan?

Ink cartridges are probably the biggest gotcha's with inkjet printers. The thing with this printer is the "single use cartridge" that it comes with:

Single Use cartridges are specially priced and designed to stop working after delivering a fixed amount of ink. Use of this cartridge confirms your agreement that it is to be used only once. After this single use, the license to use the print cartridge terminates.

… which means you CAN'T REFILL them and you're forced to buy another expensive cartridge.

I wish I read this before I purchased the damn thing.

      • I meant scan, but its actually a pretty funny way to say it :)

I wonder if an expensive cartridge would be refillable anyway.

        • Unlike many Epsons, it appears that nobody has worked out a way to reset the chip inside the Dell cartridges. So, you can refill them easily, but the printer will still report as "empty" and not work.

That is why these "well featured" printers sell for under US$50… it's like an old polaroid camera, in that they profit from the consumables not the initial sale. They might as well just give them away for free!

          • @llama: So unlike my current Canon Pixma, you can't just push a button and make it print regardless of how much ink is left in the tank?

  • If it's like my Dell printer then I would advice against purchasing it, ink has to be bought through Dell and it costs a lot of money. Not worth it IMO.
