Takes 2 hours to reheat pre-cooked but cold food to 75° and 3.5 hours to reheat frozen food. Meh.

    • Takes 1-1.5 hour for me.

      • Just quoting from Sunbeam itself.

    • +1

i laughed when i saw that. ffs, a microwave will do it in a couple of minutes. useless sh*t we don't really need. should be something catchoftheday sells

  • +5

Sounds like the food will be in the danger zone for most of that 2 hours reheating.

How did this product even make it to market ?

  • +7

Sooooo they're unique selling point is that you don't have to wait to use the microwave to reheat your food, which usually takes just a couple of minutes per meal, however using this product means you'll have to wait between 2 and 3.5 hours for your food to be edible. At that rate, you might as well save your money and just leave your food out in the sun.

    • +1

Yeh, and how much power is it using as well??

      • 50-54W

        • Surprised it can heat anything then!! Might as well put it under a light bulb for 2 hours! lol

      • +1

And the sun puts out 3.846×10^26 W.

    • +4

The description: "you'll never have to wait for a free microwave".

That's true, but there's still plenty of waiting.

    • +4

It's pulled pork all over again. Better go to Subway.

    • I assumed they were envisioning a work situation in which many employees were waiting to use the sole microwave oven. Still…

      • Yep I agree. But if it's such a big problem I don't know why your employer wouldn't just stump up and by another microwave, they start from $110 on the same site. Or just take sandwiches from now on.

    • +1

You have to start heating your lunch by the time you arrived office lol ….

      HahahahahahaaaaAAAaaaaAaaaaAAAA!!!!

I will be careful not to microwave my vaccines to make sure I don't get super-autism.

      • I microwaved my underwear so I can have super-genitals.

        • +1

I can see them from here.

        • +3

That didn't work for me. When I did it, they gave me super strength and speed, until I went for a swim and they started shrinking. Then I had to put them on my frog which did a super jump and squashed an evil toad.

        • @tomsco:

          Round the Twist!!! :)

      • Holy crap I nearly choked on my lunch. Funniest thing I've read today.

    • I wonder how you fill your car with petrol?

Lol that article doesn't provide any supporting evidence or references, probably because it's written by an uneducated unscientific nong who just wants to make money off you via ads. Do yourself a favour and look up peer reviewed journals rather then this bs.

      • +1

        BHUT MAH PARANOIA'SZ!!!

  • I reckon it's good to keep already hot food inside, just use it as a container.

    • Ended up getting one, I think my mum would appreciate it.

Did anyone notice when you click through the link, the Harvey Norman chat addresses me as 'OZBargainer' hahah!

    • I'm still not over that whole HN "professionals" thang…

Been like this almost since the incident described in holdenmg's link played out:

The day of The Professionals Comment:

Gerry: IT, get up here now!

IT: Yes, Mr Harvey, right away, Sir.

Gerry: Alright, I wanna know each time one of these (profanity) uses my site.

IT: No problem, Mr. Harvey, Sir!

Gerry: And I want them to know I know who they are.

IT: Yes, Mr. Harvey. I can tinker with the chat app, Sir.

      Gerry: Very good. Dismissed.

  • Is it battery powered or runs on mains? My thoughts of the concept was that it was good for tradies or truck drives where it was battery powered on the go and you could have warm lunch where a microwave is inaccessible?

    • I don't think it is battery powered by the look at the video.

    • +1

Batteries wouldn't supply sufficient power to get it to 50°, let alone 75°. It's definitely AC only. Edison was purported to be working on a portable food warmer, but death intervened.

  • +1

Here's a product that won the 2016 Swiss Kickstarter Accelerator Programme (building on Edison's work, no doubt):

Can be powered by a power bank. More than $8, I bet!

    Perfect, thanks!

  • you'll never have to wait for a free microwave with the Sunbeam GoLunch Food Warmer.
Sunbeam GoLunch reheats cold meals to 75˚C in 2 hours

Yeah waiting 2 hours for your meal to warm is so much better than waiting 2 minutes for the microwave to become free

  • +2

This is available with free delivery at the moment so an even better deal!

    • i logged in just to update on the free delivery too haha. cheers mate

  • Buy one for that co-worker that likes to bring in meals that stink out the microwave/workplace.

  • I got one since microwaves and the kitchen at work is crowded at lunch hours and I'm eating from this thing as I type this. I was nervous about the odour but it hides it very well. I'm within half a metre from this device and I can barely smell it (I'm having noodles with marinated chicken; I'm sure different foods will vary it's odour). I leave it in my drawers and my coworkers had no idea I had it cooking away. The heat is more than decent and the food texture is similar to a slow cooker/steamer i.e. won't dry like a microwave. I did a lot of research and it's recommended for reheating food only (not raw food).

Overall I don't see many flaws apart from that the power cord may be short for some people. The bowl may be small for bigger eaters; I think I will need to compact the food in for my portions. I'm quite happy with this product.
